  1. Well they should set you up pretty well for you to go home. I also attended support groups for 10 months before I got my surgery date. That helped a ton. Find one and try to go after surgery. The support you get there is priceless good luck! You will do great!
  2. They didn't tell you about the binder? Also be aware after surgery you should have compression stockings. They gave me a patch to help with nausea. I was in the hospital 2 nights. Came home Saturday and have been doing well. They sent me home with a liquid to coat my pouch before I eat and also lovenox injections I give myself for the next 7 days. Most importantly walk walk walk walk. I did 4 miles in the hospital in 2.5 days.
  3. Hospital should provide you with one.
  4. I came out of surgery with mine on.
  5. I wear my binder non stop until my follow up with the surgeon and they have me wearing those dumb compression hose. Surgery date 10/4 RNY.

Post Surgery Almost A Week! Pooped Too! So Proud

Other's reactions to surgery crack me up. Some of the older women at work are terrified about me getting surgery. They have put me on their prayer list at church. It is funny you mentioned pooping bc in my nutrition class last week I asked if they would give me something for that becuase any type of pain med kills my bowels. The people in the room giggled but you are my perfect example!! Congrats!! Andrea. RNY 10/4/12 Indiana

    Got My Surgery Date!

    Thank you everyone!!
  10. Oh sweetie I know it is a pain in the ass. I just got my date, 10/4/12 and I first met with my surgeon last December. Use this time wisely. Try things like, only eating a small portion while your family and friends eat normally, taste the proteins, not necessarily for taste but for texture. Your tastes will change after surgery. Start walking if you haven't already. Go to support groups. I thankful for my time bc I have made Frieda through support group who I would have never met.

    Worst Pain Ever!

Did you use your spirometer before surgery? I got one two weeks ago an practice with it at home. They said it helps strengthen your lungs to help decrease risk from pneumonia.
  12. I'm 28. 402lbs, size 28-30 pants. I am treated for HTN, PCOS, Depression/Anxiety, Arthritis. Regardless of all of that demographic info you would never know it bothered me. I love myself as I am now, but love myself enough to know I want to live a happy active life and dieting yoyos have done nothing but get me sick, cause stomach/intestinal issues. I work full time and have a small business on the side, a hustle of you will, of selling handmade items from cards to jewelry. I want to be married on a beach and have children. I have been through this situation of getting surgery 3x. I was 17 the first time and insurance approved but surgeons in Indiana would not do it. Then I was 24 and found my company excluded WLS from their policy. I have a great new job and insurance that approved me after 6 months of seeing a bariatrician for a weight loss program. I have lost weight as the surgeon wanted. I got muni durance approval on 7/17/12 and by 7/31/12 I should have my pre op testing, then get my surgery date. I'm praying for the week of August 27th, for work reasons mainly. I thank God everyday for waking up and I have learned a lot about myself in this process. I still can believe it is happening because of all the disappointment I have faced. I could not ask for a better chance of a second opportunity to take care of myself. I am active in going to support group at St. Vincent Carmel on the Tuesday night group in Indiana. I saw this sight and being a young single woman I feel like I will be able to use all the support I can get. Here are a few pictures. I'll add some full body shots, don't have any on my phone. Imagine that!!

    Ready For This!

Yeah I know it will be okay. Just haven't got the urge to talk about it with anyone around here. Seemed like everyone was busy today. I started all of this in January and will hopefully get a surgery date this week.

    Ready For This!

I'm feeling super emotional today. I am ready for surgery. Knowing that I have to wait till at least the end of Sept is irritating. I haven't been able to walk or workout in days because my back hurts and I'm so sleepy all the time. I struggle all day to stay awake and it depresses me. The Dr. says it is between my hormone levels and possible sleep apnea. For 9 months we haven't been able to get it under control. I feel like I'm a disappointment to my friends and family bc I could care less about leaving my apt. When I do I sweat non stop. I'm 28 and pissed off at myself for getting this way. I know I am making a great choice with surgery and am putting all my worthwhile energy into makin my life better. Again I'm getting irritable waiting. Oh and on top of it all I've been having irritable bowel symptoms which I haven't had in about 2 years. Don't get me wrong though, even in my darkest hours I love the fact that my life is going to be a good one. All I can say for today though is, Thank God for cuddly puppies and dreams of one day having cuddly babies.
  16. So I got my insurance approval about a month ago, then this past Tuesday I had my pre op testing. It took almost 6 hours. I walked in and the registration lady handed me an itinerary of all my testing followed up by a nurse practitioner. I having RNY @St Vincent Carmel Indiana with Dr Cacucci. I went to the hospital at 6:45 and got home about 2. All is good though. I hope I never have to drink Barium again! All the bending and sitting and standing killed my poor back. I have a nerve that flares up every now and again and of course it has been horrible lately. I got home walked the dogs and I was just done. Didn't eat dinner, laid there like I was a stiff board. Then woke up at 7:40 and realized I missed support group and I was so sad. That is when I realize how much support group has come to mean to me. I hope everyone finds a support group locally to help them. Ours is wonderful. Now I'm waiting on my surgery date. Praying for the last week of Sept mainly for work scheduling purposes!

    Ready For This!

Oh yeah I'm definitely filing FMLA. It's a new job and we had my permanency date wrong. A month off. So before my manager could sign off I had to meet the date requirement which is Sept 26. More time for me to save money and whatnot! plus it will be getting cooler and I'm sure the areas will heal better if I'm not in a constant sweat lol!
