I started this process, journey, walk, life changing event in 2002. I was 18 years old and was approved by insurance however last minute my surgeon declined stating he was not comfortable with me being so young. This all happened at Methodist.
I went on and went to college at Ball State then on to University of South Carolina. I moved back to Indiana in 2007, and again thought that the surgery was a valid choice for my health problems. This time I chose St. Vincent's. I went to my first consult, went to numerous support groups and insurance denied, then added an exclusion to weight loss programs or surgeries. Shot down again.
In December of 2011 I knew I had to do something. I had a job that insurance had accepted several people for weight loss programs and surgeries, so I put my heart out there again. For anyone who does not think you aren't putting your heart on your sleeve when you start this process you will learn quickly how emotional of a process this really is. My brother, my life, went with me to the first 3 hour consultation. There I sat looking at my 21 year old brother who is a Marine and an incredible man, and with every ounce of my being I said to myself I will make this happen. If he can promise his life to our country, I can promise my life to my family and let them see me a long healthy life despite all the attempts and failures from my entire life.
It is now September of 2012 and I will have surgery October 4th, 2012. God has been by my side. I have proven to myself this is what I want. I have gone to the support groups and I cannot stress the importance of this. I have heard the absolutely horrible stories people have, and I have heard those who are now able to have children who were never able to before. It was a long process but it has been worth it and I cannot wait to be the person who has been here the entire time but hides behind the extra insulation my body is.
For those of you who would like, I despise facebook, but love instagram. You can find me at missladylovely.
