keep it real

I am 8 months post op. I like to say that I eat normal foods in abnormal amounts. There is only ONE thing that I can think of that I have wanted since surgery but haven't eaten. That's an Oreo. I don't know exactly why...I have eaten fast food: McDonald's, Taco Bell, Subway...I have eaten regular restaurant food: Chili's, Outback, Cheesecake Factory. I eat very little of what I order, so I get what I want but try to make mindful choices. I have lost 105# since surgery on 10/05.

Does Bcbs Pays For Cosmetic Sx?

Oh me too. I am 8 months out, so surgery isn't even an option for another 10 months...I am creating a paper trail for these issues immediately.
3. I am 8 months post op today!!! I have two questions. I need some input on how to respond best to the following statements that I hear pretty regularly: * * You look so great/fantastic/amazing!! -----> I never thought I'd struggle with a response to this as "Thank you so much!" has been sufficient up to this point. Now when I say that, the person just sort of stares at me...should I respond with how much I've lost? How I'm working at this? What?? I have no idea?!?!? ***Secondly, and this one has surprised me...and has been more stressful than I imagined...I hear this from friends, "I am so fat and unhappy. I need motivation. Help me." Uhhh...I am JUST learning success with weight loss. I have NO IDEA how to be helpful in this situation!! Ideas would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance, Sarah

How do I respond?!?!

I am very open with most things in my life. I would call myself transparent. People know I run...and I run a lot. I can't magically crown someone with motivation. I tell everyone that they're welcome to run with me...I have a friend who hasn't said anything about my weight loss (105#!!!), but she seems to complain constantly. I even offered to drive across town to her house to go walking...which proves Mami's point that people talk to hear themselves.

How do I respond?!?!

Cherry, I don't think you are being the LEAST bit deceptive!! WLS is a tool- not a be all, end all for weight loss struggles, and while my surgery is not a secret, both of Our success happens as a result of daily decisions to be better than we were yesterday. I've lost small amounts here and there, but nothing like now. I want to help others as much as possible, but I am feeling a strange pressure from the cries for help.
7. I'm a little over two weeks post op. Has anyone noticed an increase in Body Odor?

My last sip of soda

I love Diet Coke so much!! I gave it up for 4 months...I'm 7months post op and I can drink it on occasion...it has to be a fountain drink. Cans are too fizzy.

Average Weekly Weight Loss?

Gastric sleeve?

After I had done TONS of research in RNY, my physician asked me the same thing. Apparently I was a good candidate for sleeve because I wasn't diabetic. I decided on the RNY for a couple reasons: *The RNY is the gold standard for weight loss surgery. There is ample research on how it affects people now and years down the road. *The sleeve is considered less aggressive, and I wasn't going to have major surgery and feel like I didn't do all I could. *Sleeve patients apparently don't dump. With my love of sweets, I need that adverse reaction to sugar. In any event, do your own research and make sure YOU are comfortable with your decision and confident in your physician. Good Luck! BTW, I'm 7 months post op and down 102#

Maybe a dumb question, but...

I too have it sometimes. I love a Diet Coke. I can't drink it out of a can anymore because the carbonation is too strong. I do enjoy a fountain drink from time to time.

Hell to the yes!!! If I saw it on the scale, then it's what I weighed...and if it came off, it's part of what I've lost!!
