  4. Unfortunately, we will be tested like this everyday, and every time we open the fridge, the pantry, or go out to eat. The surgeons can fix the stomach, but they cannot fix the brain, and all the triggers that make us crave the foods that got us into the situations that caused us to have gastric bypass surgery. You need to be strong, things will get better, you will learn to find healthier choices to the foods that you crave. Eventually you we be able to introduce some of the things that you like, back into your diet in moderation. It is also great motivation to keep on tract when your weight starts to drop weight like you're melting away. I have now lost 112 lbs in 5 1/2 months and it feels great! Good luck! 6. I have done this several times in the last 5 1/2 months since my surgery, usually the best way to relieve it for me if the Papaya enzyme tablets don't do the job,I usually end up being so nauseated that it is vomited back up and it is almost instant relief. Vomiting is probably not the best option, but it seems like it is the quickest relief to end the suffering that would continue for hours on end. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk

Need Info About Post Op Life

I had RNY surgery on July 16th 2012. I have never felt better!!! It is definently a different lifestyle than before, but it is worth it!! I make good choices because the positive feedback is tremendous!!! I have dumped 4 times since surgery, all 4 times I believe they were caused by eating too fast or not chewing the food up enough. I have not tried anything with high surgar or fat in them yet, and I like the fear of dumping if I do have something bad weather I really would dump or not after having them I don't know, but I do know that dumping is no fun at all, so it keeps me on the straight and narrow. I have never been more active in my life, I now enjoy mountain biking and working out, it gives me a new addiction to fitness. As far as supplements, I take 2 multi-vitamins a day, calcium, pepcid ac, b-12, biotin and actigall(gallstone prevention for the first 6 months.) I am on autopilot now, it is alot easier the more time from post op. I still remember how much I liked the bad things to eat, but now realize that they are not worth it!! - somehow I developed a very strong sense of willpower that I never had pre surgery. My surgery was the best thing that I could have done for myself, I would do it again!!! Good Luck on your choice.

    2 Months And Frustrated

I have felt bad after meals when I didn't slow down what I was eating. Are you making sure that you eat a bite and chew chew chew, put utensil down and wait a minute, then repeat? Eating too fast makes me feel horrible. I try to make my meals of 2oz last almost 30 minutes.

Can I Eat The Gummy Vitamins?

I was told no gummies just today, because they have no Iron. Don't take unless you also want to take an Iron supplement.

    Crushed Meds?

First make sure you have a nice pill crusher, I got mine at Walgreen's. I usually make all my meds into a fine powder and then mix with vanilla yogurt in a medicine cup. It's still not the greatest but it's tolerable. The yogurt is sweet enough to help cut the bitterness. I take a Flinstones Complete chewable vitamin and a sub-lingual B-12 first by mouth. Then I crush up a Pepcid AC max, my BP pill, Actigall, and biotin and then mix into a medicine cup with as little amount of yogurt as possible, make sure to leave a couple little baby spoonfulls of plain yogurt to help cut the bitterness after you finish off the crushed meds. Hope that helps, been doing this for 5 weeks. Good Luck!!!

    Back To Work

I took about three weeks, but I think I could have come back after one week. I felt great, there was little pain from the surgery itself. The only hard part is getting the timing down between all your vitamins and calcium and your meals, drinking your water and getting in your protein shakes in a timely fashion. It felt like that's a full-time job in itself keep up with things. Good Luck!!!

    How Long Before Chicken?

I just tried Tyson chicken breast tenderloin strips on the grill both yesterday and today and it went down fine, but I felt full after trying 1 ounce with gravey to keep moist. Today is my 1 month surgiversary.
  19. My Surgi-vacation is over after today!!! I'm little worried about how things are going to go in the working environment. There's a lot to keep up with at the beginning of my journey as far as the vitamins calcium, meds, meals, protein and getting all your fluids. Does anyone ever get out of whack as far as getting all your nutritional needs, meds, fluids and protein down when you are at work? I've done great at home, but it seems like it's a full-time job just to keep up with everything. So I'm a little nervous about adding my real job into this mix. I am an MRI technologist, and we don't normally get scheduled breaks or even lunch for that matter. We normally try to just eat whenever we can if there's a small break.

    Ahh A Great Dinner!

I'll be three weeks out tomorrow. The third day out from surgery I was able to eat scrambled eggs, yogurt, mashed potatoes with gravy and cottage cheese or fish with the only restriction of eating or chewing everything to an applesauce consistency. My pouch seems to tolerate everything so far really good. It's not talking back to me yet, but I'm not pushing it either. Sounds like my doctor/ nutritionist are awesome because I never had to go on any kind of puréed diet post surgery. I get to start eating a few more new items tomorrow since I'll be three weeks out- like grilled chicken, meatloaf(ground chicken or turkey really moist), shrimp, pretzels, crackers, peanut butter, baked light chips, corn tortilla, whole wheat toast (toasted well), thin sliced deli ham, cinnamon, pepper, and garlic. I can't wait to start adding a few new little things because things are getting a little bit repetitive.

    Which To Have

If you haven't read the book "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies" by Marina Kurian, it is a great reference book and goes over bypass and sleeve surgeries. I would highly recommend this book!! Each surgery will have there pros and cons. I choose the bypass because many friends went that route and had great success and my surgeon had an excellent record for performing the procedure. You may want to research the surgeon that would perform the procedure and find out how many bypasses vs sleeves are performed at their facility and ask for a record of complications for each surgery. Good luck with your choice. PS: you can get an e-book version of "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies" on the Kindle or on the Kindle app for iPhone or Android phones also.
  23. Sorry to hear that you're having problems. I'm about three weeks postoperative from RNY. My surgery went pretty smooth, I never felt the twisting sensation that you described in your prior post. I definitely would make a few phone calls before making the trip.
  24. Prays are coming your way!!! Stay strong !!! Keep us updated.
