    Anyone For October?

YEA!! Someone I can relate to!! Nice that you don't need to start your liquid diet till the 23! I started mine this past Monday. Going good so far!! I'm so ready for this surgery, food is not even an issue right now. Don't even want anything other than my liquid. (lost 6# so far) Where are you from? I'm in Northern Wisconsin. Nice to meet you, Dawn

HEY.. I'm in October too!! Barely, but it's Oct 29! Started my preop liquid this past Monday! So far, so good! Don't even crave anything! Ssooooo excited to be doing this!! Next week is Clear liquids and the count down is ON! I'm wondering how those of you are doing postop? What's happening? How do you feel? Dawn

    Mood

Had my preop yesterday, mood change after surgery came up and the nurse explained it's a hormonal issue. Not to be surprised, since our bodies are wondering about this huge change & want what it used to get. It gets better... Keep exercising!

    Pre Op Diet

Quick question.. Today I began my 2 wk liquid diet... So far, so good. But it's only been 12 hours! Lol I have 2% milk in the fridge - realize I néed low fat or skim.. Can't I just dilute it to use in puddings or something? Seeing the Surgeon tomorrow & all the prep stuff too. In the meantime, I'm preparing for tonight's "meal" and tomorrow's also, since I'll be 2.5 hours from home for this, need to tske meals with. Anyway, CAN I DILUTE THE 2% MILK? IF SO, HOW? That's all.. Thanks! Dawn

    Open Gastric Bypass.

QUOTE Mine was open. My Dr also does only open less complications. I am 4 wks out and can't believe how easy it was. Very little pain, more just uncomfortable. CathyB, How was your recovery after the Open surgery? My date for surgery is Oct 29, and I'm anticipating the Surgeon will choose the open instead of laproscopic.. wondering how you did after. Do you work outside the home? If so, how long were you off? Thank you in advance, Dawn

    Reality Sinking In!

Just heard that my insurane approval went through.. Contacted the Surgery Scheduling immediately ~ got my surgery date on Monday November 5, 2012. It also happens to be my oldest daughters 26th birthday.. Kind of ironic.. Since that was when I went from a size 10 up to hugh & pregnant! Although getting to a size 10 wasn't from being healthy, it was binging & purging.. So, another lifetime ago, that will be in my past & time to close some doors & open new ones! Guess I'd better start on my liquid diet tomorrow, after I eliminate the wine from my kitchen.,.,! LOL (ooh.. And the bag of m&m's in my glovebox!) Lots of backtracking now to remember everything the dietian told me so many months ago! How to do the pre-op diet.. What's acceptable, what's not.. Researching tonight!! Starting new tomorrow! I can already feel the increase in energy and happy mood change! Wish me the best! Cause in 2-3 days I may regret the whole thing once I start on the liquid! (I think we like to complain! Why not be happy for sustenance and covering?) I may regret that also in a few days, since I can talk big, right after lunch!! LOL! SO MUCH TO LIVE AND LEARN!! Thanks for reading! Dawn Starting weight: 230 In the near future... WATCH-OUT!! :-*

    Reality Sinking In!

my surgeon only requires two day on liquid diet. TWO DAYS? wow.. I don't really understand why the 2 week liquid diet, I mean, if it's to 'clean you out' a colonoscopy prep would do that... One member mentioned to me awhile back that it had something to do with shrinking the liver.. I guess that's why THEY are the surgeons and WE are the recipients.. Haha You lucky duck! Dawn

    My New Love!

Yes. I've been allowed to have caffeine, they just didn't want me to drink any for the first few weeks. - Kaylee Ann, Well That is refreshing news! I am a coffee lover, and have been trying to mentally prepare for life without coffee. I may continue doing that, since I would prefer my energy come from exercise and healthy eating, not caffeine. But at least I know that down the road I can have it, if I want to. Thx for the reply Dawn

"Doubt it since chai is black tea plus it's concentrate" Are you postop? Everything I'm reading says 'no caffeine after surgery'. Dawn

    Reality Sinking In!

"I feel a sense of calm today after getting the approval call yesterday. I am sure i will go through a million different feelings by the time day of surgery comes." Vicki, I feel that calmness, excitement now. Starting my liquid diet Monday. By noon on Monday - with no coffee and minimul choices for the pre-op diet, I may get the next set of emotions. However, I believe that this is a HUGE mind game. I really need (and you too) to keep the positive mind set, keep the excitement going. My coworkers have all said they can see the excitement in my face, ... Never do I want them ( or my family) to think I ever have any doubt or regrets.. Keeping that positive attitude will carry us through this a lot! Yes, we may have pain, suffering as the process evolves, but we know that! And when it happens, we aren't blindsided, but prepared! When I feel that the liquid diet may be too restrictive, I'm going to focus on a few things.. 1. My clothes will be fitting better, no bloating.... 2. Any food I can't have, will not leave the planet before I may eat it again. 3. I will not die if I follow this plan to the endth degree. Any word yet on your surgery date? Dawn

"I had RNY" Thanks for the replies, I'm pretty set on the RNY, but older brothers trying to talk me out of it. "what if it doesn't work" "what happens when you gain all the weight back". Lots of discouragement. Personally, since I can't have Jillian Michels at my house every day for the next 6 months screaming at me to get up and exercise, I need something with 'consequences'. I need to "Feel" if I've messed up. I don't know if the Sleeve does that... Thanks for your input & experience, Sounds like you are doing very well. Is it common to have gallbladder problems after the RNY? Did you have trouble with it prior? Dawn

"Had sleeve surgery 8/28/12." Hello PeanutButter! Can you give me some details, specifics.. About your surgery.. Recovery,, how you are doing,, positive & negative - ?? I've just finished all my requirements for the RNY surgery, Next step is surgery date. Spoke to a gal today who had the sleeve done and feels great. Spoke to a friend who's mother-in-law had RNY and had many complications! Who decides on the surgery? You or the Doctor? Why did you go with the Sleeve? I'm 5'0", 230#, 48 years old. Appreciate your input, in advance Dawn
  22. Just a question... I have had an ongoing problem with pitting edema in my lower legs.. Years.. My concern is, that if it's a problem with my lymphatic system, will the WLS have any "pros" or "cons" with that problem? I realize this is a life / body changing surgery.. I don't want to compromise my lymph system more than it is now.. Anyone have similar issuses? I have a sit-down job, 40 hrs a week. I am aware of sodium intakes responsibility in the mater, my physical activity is not much (I KNOW!!).. my Water intake could improve..... Thanks in advance, Dawn

    Edema / Lymphatic System

QUOTE: "I have done the lemonade "master cleanse" roughly 4 times the first time ever I went for 21 days losing 28 lbs. eventually I believe it lead to my gull bladder / stones. I also didn't have insurance at the time so I put off going to the hospital for a week longer than what I should have. Well massive infection janduce and emergency sergury sched for the next day." YIIKES! That's scary! Well, I understand more now about the liquid diet, it needs the Protein, and to shrink the liver. So no lemonade diet! (why does my liver need to shrink?) The program I'm in didn't require weight loss, however, exercise is a must! (I'm still working on that one!) my last month will be the liquid diet, to include 2 wks of Clear Liquids. Then the same thing in reverse after.. 2wks clear liquid, then into the thicker liquid. Thanks everyone for the comments & advice!

    Edema / Lymphatic System

Well, that helps.. I was cocerned that my lymphatic system may be compromised with the surgery. Sounds like it helps the situation after! I wonder if anyone tried the Lemonade Diet (fresh squeezed lemons, good grade B maple syrup & cayenne pepper) during the liquid diet.. I did it 2 yes ago for 10 days, lost 18#, had energy like mad! (who gets up @5a.m & starts to clean the house?) I wanted for nothing, no food, and was very content with what I had. (worked as a hostess @ supper club & even all those plates of food couldn't get me to cheat) Could that fly for the liquid diet? Oh.. And my edema disappeared. The Lemonade diet is more of a total body cleanse, not just a colon cleanse... But, eventually you have to "eat" again.. Then I had trouble . My love-hate relationship with food! Thanks for your replys! Dawn
