  1. During pre-surgical testing right before surgery, has anyone had their surgery postponed due to a newly found medical condition? What type of medical conditions could cause a surgeon to put the surgery on hold? I have a few concerns. My blood work has been coming back abnormal for the past 6 months since I started this whole process. My WBC count is elevated, as well as my ESR and CRP. This indicates there is a certain level of inflammation in my body that has yet to be determined. For the past few months, we've been trying to rule out everything, but have found no answers. My primary doctor told me I could go ahead with the surgery and not to worry about these results...but will the surgeon? I just get so worked up and anxious because It's been such a LONG process and to think it might possibly be held up because of abnormal WBC count on my blood tests during pre-surgical testing...I would be devasted. Ugh. I guess I'm just venting and frustrated and scared of the unknown There really is no answers. I guess I have to wait and see. We're still hoping for a surgery date the end of december to first or second week in January.
  2. Haven't posted in awhile! I'm 4 months post-op and recently hit a horrible stall. I have not lost anything since the end of April. It's like my body refuses to get out of the 200s (i've been stuck at 204). Any advice? I think I'm eating TOO much. I've been hungry. I recently started a BC pill which I partly blame for the stall/hunger. I eat 870-970 cals a day....for 4 months out, I'm thinking I should NOT be eating any more than 800 a day. I eat close to 70 grams of protein a day. I DON'T exercise consistently, but will. Does this mean my body is stopping the weight loss? Maybe i've been snacking too many? I still have 65 mpre to lose does this mean im DONE?!

    Not feeling full....

How much are we supposed to be eating? A cup's worth?
  6. Ok. So here goes. I'm going to try to explain this as best as possible. My BMI is 46, and I have sleep apnea and some form of arthritis we're still in the process of determining. I have completed all of my pre-op testing and just had my 3rd weigh in with my PCP. I have United Healthcare Community Plan in NY, which is a Medicaid HMO. They cover gastric bypass fully with prior authorization and as long as it is medically necessary. My surgeon's office tells me I need 6 months of supervised diet, so I have been doing that....BUT, I have called UHC Community Plan multiple times and when I ask about requirements, they say there is none listed, but the surgery has to be deemed medically necessary. They said some type of documentation of a physician assisted or diet with a nutritionist HELPS approval, but is not necessary. They said there is no mention of how long it needs to be done, and just mentioned anything helps to prove medical necessity. So here's the thing. Who do I believe?? Another thing. I have a crazy, crazy schedule with graduate school, working, interning, etc. and I REALLY need this surgery during winter break anytime between Dec. 19 to Jan. 19. I just emailed my patient advocate and asked her if I can submit a MONTH early in November. That will give me ONLY 5 months of consecutive weigh-ins with PCP. JUST in case, I will make a December appointment (my 6th weigh-in) just to be SURE in case I am denied. My surgeon is usually very booked and it takes a long time to get an appointment for surgery, etc. etc. I want to submit in November, a month early before my 6th month weigh-in, but is this wise given the scenerio above? Who do you believe? Your surgeon's office, who has experience in getting people approved, or the doctor's office? Am I making a mistake submitting a month early? THANK YOU!

    Worst thing ?

5 weeks out...had complications 2 days after surgery and had a 2nd emergency surgery. Could I have lost 31 pounds this quickly and on my own? Probably not. I was at the end of my rope...I couldn't diet anymore, I needed a fixed lifestyle change. I've been nothing but happy with my decision...complications and all, I'd do it again. I do mourn food. You will get so full of something off a bite or two and WISH AND YEARN to eat more...it's a depressing feeling, you feel as if you didn't have your fill. You will get through that though if you choose to. Let this tool be a last resort...if you've truly and honestly exhausted all other diet options, then this is for you.

Going on 5 weeks post-op and had my first experience throwing up yesterday at school! I ate grilled chicken either too fast, or a bite or two more than I was supposed to. Omg. It felt stuck. I kept burping and had saluva. I tried to walk it off but 20 mins later threw up some foamy stuff and felt so much better. Yikes!!

  15. Hi guys... Need some good, honest advice, especially from those post-oppers with a little more post-op time under their belt. On Saturday, I will be celebrating my brother's 30th birthday with a surprise party. Obviously I can't drink; I'm 4 weeks out. There will be food served. I was going to have a chicken sandwhich, but take off the bread and everything else, and only eat the chicken. The chicken is good Protein, but it's breaded and most likely fried....(think chicken cutlet-like). Should I eat before going to the party, or should I try and eat 3 bites of chicken? Would this be considered foolish at 4 weeks post-op?
  16. My doc said Protein intake early on is more important than caloric intake

    Sleepy!

Exhausted always. Even more than usual. Surgery 1/15/13. I was anemic before surgery and was tired always...so mh levels must be even worse now
  19. I agree with you all. My family says I'm crazy and should just go and enjoy myself b/c I can only eat 3 bites anyway...but to me, eating something fried at a month out seems like cheating lol
  20. I'd also like to know. I keep hearing that EVERY rny or vsg patient gains it back after years. That can't be true that ALL patients do!
