Taking two weeks off. I sit on my butt all day, but I'm a social worker so stress is high. I wanted the relaxation!

  3. Day 3 of liquid diet...and I can only have 2 shakes today b/c of a procedure I'm having tomorrow. The hunger pains are brutal...I could cry!

    Hot tubs/ baths

Hot tubs harbor a lot of bacteria. I would say wait till your incisions heal fully and scab. I'm sure your surgeon will give you an idea of how long to wait!

    United Healthcare, help!

The best thing to do is call your UHC plan. There are SO many different UHC plans all with different pre-op requirements. It is best to contact your insurance representative directly to find out what they require. My UHC is UHC Community Plan. I was required to do 6 months and a lot of other tests.

Can I vent? I started my two week liquid diet today. Surgery is January 15th. Let me try to make a LONG story short. I'm worried my surgery will either be cancelled, postponed, or all together not recommended by surgeon after tomorrow's pre-op appt. how do I explain this? At the start of my 6 month supervised diet, I went to my primary doc complaining of fatigue and joint aches. He did blood work and tested me for parvo, mono, 5th's disease, rhemetoid arthritis (I know I'm spelling that wrong) and oter stuff like lupus, hep a,b,c and hiv. Everything came back negative...but my blood results show elevated WBC, ESR, and CRP. Elevated WBC and CRP indicate infection or inflammation somewhere in the body. So my doc referred me to the rhuematologist to check for arthritis diseases. Apparently I don't have any arthritis. He then referred me to a hematologist who found microscopic traces of blood in my stool which indicates I'm Iron deficient due to blood loss. We were thinking it was colitis or celiac. Hematologist sent me for a colonscopy. They did a biopsy of my small intestine to check for inflammation and crohn's disease....but just found out biopsy resultsncame back normal. They did find, however, small superficial ulcers on the last part of my small intestine. This Friday, I have to do smething called a pill cam. I will swallow a pill that is a camera that will take thousands of pictures of my small intestines so my GI doc can get a better view. He wants to rule out Crohn's disease. He said sometimes small ulcers are found and are unexplaimable and not a bother or concern. I will know results Monday night. I don't think it's crohn's. i don't have unexplained weight loss or pain or loss of appetite. I will have to tell my surgeon tomorrow what has been going on during my pre-op appt. What can I expect? Will they cancel surgery? What if I did have crohn's? Wouldnt that mean all hope is lost for WLS? I spent all of yesterday crying. I may be getting ahead of myself, but this keeps looming over my mind. What will the surgeon think when tell him this tomorrow? Will he second guess his decision to operate? I am thankful I will have results back from pill cam before surgery on the 15th. Can you guys keep me in your prayers? I am a nervous wreck. I just hope the pill cam results come back ok. I will have more of an idea of things tomorrow after I meet with the nurse and surgeon for final pre-op appointment. Please keep your fingers crossed

I also have my pre-op appt tomorrow!
  11. What is your BMI if you don't mind me asking? My sister had VSG at a BMI of 50 and has lost 110 in 5 months...clearly this is an even faster rate than many RNY patients I've spoken to! I do know what you mean though. I planned for the sleeve extensively. I found out my insurance won't cover it, and I was shocked and scared to go ahead with bypass. I've researched bypass though and I'm ready for it. I do second guess myself sometimes....but with the bypass, I know I will be more successful in terms of weight loss.
  12. This is SUCH a good question. I'd also like to know! I rarely ever hear about long-term stuff with WLS...I only ever hear about the first year...never after that.

    Having second sleep test...

For me, I had to wait until my insurance approved the CPAP, so it took around two months. I'll be honest with you though...I've never worn it once. I did try! I guess I just never saw the point in it. I was told if I lose 15-20lbs. I won't need it anymore...and I expect to lose just that with the pre-op liquid diet, but we'll see!
  14. I think relationships are bound to change if there's weight loss surgery involved. It's such a huge life transition not only for us, but for our significant others and loved ones as well. There may be new insecurities, new jealousy, new hesitancy, change of goals and priorities, etc. Most important thing is preparing for this and talking things out.
  15. Over time does the pouch stretch allowing you to consume more? This is what I'm afraid of. I'm talking about years down the line, not right away. Thanks everyone...you've all been so helpful.

That's strange! I never understood why that happens. Is your surgeon from a center of excellence? Mine requires a two week liquid diet to shrink the liver. Since we're heavy, we have fatty livers. Any amount of weight loss helps. The goal is to lose 15-20 on the pre-op liquid diet. Maybe you can start doing your own??

Well, today and tonight mark my official 'food funeral' celebration...and what better way to celebrate than on New Year's Eve! Tomorrow starts my 2 week liquid diet before surgery on January 15th. Tonight I will be saying farewell to soda, carbonated cider with alcohol, pizza, mounds of appetizers and junk food, and whatever else I can get my hands on. I'm making sure I'm going out with a bang!!!!!! Anyone else participating in the good old food funeral? I didn't think I would, and up until this point I've been okay, but now that tomorrow marks day 1...I feel so ready to eat, enjoy, and ring in the new year
  18. New Year's Day I start my 2 week liquid diet! It's here, guys! Wish me luck. I need to not fail at this.

  19. Yesssss. I watch my sister eat a half a cup of something and be extremely full. The crazy thing is (she has the sleeve), she can eat as much icecream and chips as she wants without getting full, but if she has two bites of a burger or a bite of pizza, she's ready to throw up. Do any of you experience dumping? I guess I'm worried about that too! I'm also concerned about the hair loss. How is everyone's health now? Any Vitamin deficiencies? Any other health related issues?

So exciting you are so close!!!!! I just want the 15th to come as well! Are you doing a liquid diet?
  21. I was originally going for the sleeve, but found out my insurance won't cover it. I'm happy with my RNY decision, but get scred sometimes of malnutrition.
