looking for people banded with TLBC (now Slimband) our contracts now null and void
nerdine_mit replied to tboyd's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ok we have rights I have in house counsel at my place of work. I suggest we do not discuss our contracts on a public forum. We only need 10 for a class action. I have 5 including myself. I also have a referral for the best class action law firm. I think others will join quickly as the word spreads. I won't discuss what I was advised on a public form but we have cause. I will send an email to you now. -
looking for people banded with TLBC (now Slimband) our contracts now null and void
nerdine_mit replied to tboyd's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi I was banded by tlbc in 2006. I called and the told me that they dissolved TLBC because it went bankrupt so they were not obligated to cover the those patients. Total fabrication, but anyway that is a different story. I said dissolving a corporation does not mean it went bankrupt. But I wasn't going to argue with someone who answered calls for a living. Interesting note in the background I could hear the other support staff making fun of the other callers, they were so loud. When did Nancy leave? What about Cathy? Feel free to PM me on this issue. -
2 Months Post Op And May Be Pregnant
nerdine_mit replied to Kimmi'sMommy's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I got pregnant 9 months after being banded (twice, miscarried one the first pregnancy), my clinic defilled me, I gave birth to my healthy baby boy. Right after I gave birth I flew straight to my surgeon he did a flouro made sure everything was fine then I had a fill and the baby weight just melted away. Good luck ladies with your babies. My band baby will be turning 4 next month. -
Hi Vickey, I would absolutely do it again, my husband has said he would have paid double. I am now recovering from a lower body lift. If you have a lot of weight to loose there will likely be excess skin. I went to Slimband, they were very good to me then. I barely call them now, my last fill was in March/April. In the beginning as I did, you will need a lot of support and Slimband had a very good support system back then I can only imagine it has been fine tuned in the five years since I've been banded. I am sure the same can be said for the SWLC, those I know who have been banded there are very happy too. My recommendation is go with either Slimband or SWLC, both have lots of patients in the north and can help you meet other bandsters. Nadine

Body Lift Tomorrow ! Nov 1 and my B'Day
nerdine_mit replied to rosstheboss's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I am doing really well so far. The last time I took a pain killer was 22 hours ago hopefully I won't need one tonight. I am also starting to be able to sit upright though not for long periods of time so I am mainly either standing or I am lying down. Thank you so much for your kind words. -
I have been banded for over 5 years now (i even had a baby in Suds with the band) i moved down south in July 2010. For 4 years I drove from Sudbury to Toronto for fill and each trip was a tax deduction. I have heard of the new clinic in Sudbury and also that the doctors aren't local as well. I think you need to find out if they have hospital privileges in Sudbury, if they don't that is serious in my opinion. All of the surgeons in TO have local hospital privileges. I have been around long enough to have heard of complications others have encountered. After I had my baby my Dr wanted to make sure everything was still ok, so I had to have flouro done. This was done by my surgeon at the hospital where they have surgical priviledges. For thin life it looks like a trip to North Bay or Toronto. I don't think much has changed in the year since I have left Sudbury. Best of luck where ever you go. The band works wonders I have gone from a peak of 245 lbs in 2005 to 126 lbs as of last week. This year I have started my plastic surgery phase to remove my excess skin, and lift my boobs.

Body Lift Tomorrow ! Nov 1 and my B'Day
nerdine_mit replied to rosstheboss's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I just had my lower body lift last week. I went from 227 lbs to 126 lbs, I had my band surgery in Aug 2006. After 5 years I finally figured out that wishing for the excess skin to shrink does not work. I am still very swollen and have little to no desire to eat. I am happy to connect with others out there who are going through the same. Nadine -
Breast Uplift (Mastopexy)
nerdine_mit replied to Richardson's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
No I was not defilled before the operation, because the surgical team had experience with band patients. If your surgeon is ok with you not having the defill the next person that decides if you need a defill is the anesthesiologist. That is what they told me. -
Breast Uplift (Mastopexy)
nerdine_mit replied to Richardson's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I am very happy with the out come. Scaring was my biggest worry and looking at the healing I don't think I will have any scaring (knock on wood). My understanding is they there are a few rounds of stiches in there. Deep ones and near surface. I didn't have the standard anchor lift, I had a Benelli with implants done which minimized my incision and I barely have any scars compared to what I would have had. They definitely used steristrips, I don't think he used glue. A good way to find a PS specialized in band patients is to ask your band clinic/surgeon, they know the doctors that is how I found my PS. I would say my nipples are more sensitive and I didn't think that was possible, but completely liveable. The only time they were numb was when I had the ice pack on my breasts to min the swelling. That is great only 4 stone to go, you will get there. Swimming is great excercise, I was going to aquafit after I was banded, it did wonders for me. That is all the excercise I did, now I am far more active in my smaller body. With time you will increase your activity, I think you are on the right track!! -
Breast Uplift (Mastopexy)
nerdine_mit replied to Richardson's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I just had a breast lift and implants (2 weeks ago, June 15). It will be 5 years ago that I was banded and I am very glad I waited for the surgery. I am hoping to have my lower body lift in the fall. I feel young again, wow what a difference from the saggy flat boobies I used to have to the ones I have now. My surgeon is a true artist and that is what I was looking for. He specializes in PS after extreme weight-loss and PS for cancer patients. I didn't feel as though I was being pushed at all, I told him I was going to look around when I met him, that didn't faze him. He knew I'd be back I guess. I was most scared about the scaring afterwards and after I saw his before and afters I realized this man knew what he was doing. My suggestion is to look for a PS that specializes in band patients/extreme WL patients. Everyone on my surgery team was familiar with the band. I aspirated during the surgery due to my band but they took perfect care of me and I am fine. My digestion is slower now I guess and even though I stopped eating well before midnight I still had some bits in there. For the next surgery I will do liquids 48 hours before just to be safe. I suggest you wait as the others are telling you, you will likely need more that just a breast lift once at goal and every one is right the last 10 take the longest. -
Breastfeeding with the band
nerdine_mit replied to TracyW2's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Hi! I had my band baby in Feb 2008, and I am still breastfeeding. I had my band tightened up right after delivery, I was 185 lbs, by June 3/08 I was 152, and by August 3/08 142, and the whole time I was breatfeeding exclusively. I have always had plenty of milk and my baby stayed on the 50%tile weight curve. One thing I found really irritating was that my baby located my port during nursing and started to play with it. Which kind of hurt but I gently, and quickly, guided his hands away. (My port is just below my bra line.) My weightloss since August/08 has been slow mainly because I am almost at goal, and I don't really care anymore if I actually loose 100 lbs as a 95-97 lbs weightloss is good enough and when I look in the mirror I see a skinny woman. Good enough for me! Hope this helps! Good Luck! -
Glad I helped. Don't worry about the weight gain. I at first was upset about the lbs coming back on. But I knew I had my lapband to help me afterwards. Keep us posted/updated as you go along. Nadine

Congrats on the pregnancy! My band baby will be turning 1 this month. I had lost 75 lbs before getting pregnant. I had a defill, and gained 50 lbs during the pregnancy. Yikes, I know; but let me tell you it all melted away as soon as I gave birth. It was amazing, it was not like that with my eldest. I had my first fill 10 days after giving birth. I flew to Toronto with my baby and daughter for a flouro. (Immediately after I gave birth I had sudden restriction, and was having problems even drinking Water, so I called my clinic.) My clinic wanted to make sure everything was ok after the birth, which it was. My Dr. told me that the reason I became restricted was the sudden hormonal change. Apparently the muscles around the stomach relax during pregnancy allowing you to eat more, and after the baby was out, in me, they tightened back up quickly. I have had two fills since March, in June and this past week. I now have less than 10 lbs until goal. I am almost 20 lbs lighter than when I got pregnant and I have a health happy breast feed baby. I live in Sudbury, and I went to an OBGYN who treated my friends high risk pregnancy and I was happy to hear I was the second pregnant bandster he's had. I hope this helps. Nadine

Pregnant and Banded...come join me!
nerdine_mit replied to raynie's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Raynie, THe exact same thing happend to me in May. I announced on another group that I was pregnant and then about 2 hours later I was in the hosipital loosing the baby. I got pregnant again 2 weeks later. We didn't think I'd get pregnant so fast. My Dr can't believe I got pregnant immediately but I did. I too was scared I'd loose this one but I am now in my second trimester. I had a defill and I am always hungry now. I gained 80 lbs with my last pregnancy so I am trying to watch my eating. Luckily my Dr doesn't think I need a complete defill so I have only had 0.5 cc taken out so far. BUt what a difference 0.5 cc makes, I am in shock! Congrats on this pregnancy! Nadine -

Any one Banded & Pregnant?
nerdine_mit replied to gaut's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Hi! Gaut, I am banded since Aug/06 and pregnant. You don't have to wait years until you start trying for a baby. I am currently about 10 wks into my pregnancy, and I just had my first defill. I was at 9.5 cc and now I am at 9. I haven't had morning sickness with this pregnancy, and I don't think I will. (I just had my first lunch and dinner at this new restriction today and boy can I eat way more than yesterday.) I have a 2 year old, in daycare, so I've had the stomach flu about 3 times since being banded. Infact I just got over it yesterday. You feel pressure when your vomitting but, it is ok. Thinking about it, and worrying is worse then the episodes. I do know another pregnant bandster who had such terrible morning sickness that her band twisted. So you can have complications. As soon as you are pregnant I would talk to your clinic. If you don't have morning sickness you can go in for your defills as you feel you need them. If you do have morning sickness, you may want to completely defill. It is a choice only you and your Dr. can make together. You may be wondering, when do you know you can start trying? For me, I had my pregnancy target weight of 165 lbs. Regardless even before my surgery we were going to start trying May 2007, so if I didn't make my target by then I was still going to try anyway. I was 152 lbs by May 2007. (I have lost 75 lbs since being banded.) I hope this helps.
