    Friday Weigh-In!

    First time Ive replied to a weigh in ~ 6 mos plus a week today and I've reached 99 lbs down. Only about 15 lbs to go to reach goal weight.

    Try ordering the chicken broth from unjury.com. It's 20g of protein per 6 oz of water. The others are right, you do need your protein to heal. The soup saved me. I'm just over 6 mos post op and if there is one thing I know it's that no food = no weight loss. Up the protein & fluids and you WILL start to see the scale move! The soup, for me, was both protein and liquid rolled into one. Good luck!
  4. I wanted to reply to a few issues brought up in this thread, if possible. Sorry if it comes across preachy ~ that is not my intent. I am not even six months out and I try to only speak to my own experience. So here goes ~ I never set a goal weight - that didn't stop the dietician from setting one for me. I'm 12 lbs from that goal. I am not at all scale obsessed. I was for the first two weeks, but stopped myself. Then I only weighed myself on Wednesdays because my surgery was on a Wednesday. Work on feeling healthy - let that be your goal. On another note, my surgical PA told me at my last pre-op appointment before RNY (5/31/12) these words: "Listen Honey, you ain't never going to be skinny." I worried about responding the way I normally would (not just to the degrading, condescending and offensive comment but to her use of the word 'ain't') because it was my LAST pre-op visit and I didn't want to jeopardize RNY. I had another follow up with her last Tuesday. This time post-op after having my gallbladder removed (cholecystectomy.). I went in wearing my new size 6 "super skinny jeans" and a gorgeous top & adorable wedges. I felt good - really good, but not because of my clothes or my facade in any way. I was ready for whatever she might say. This time she told me that even though I'm only (nearly) 6 mos post RNY, she could not remember my "fat face." She went on to tell me that I looked amazing and she didn't want me to lose another ounce. She said I looked amazing - my response: "Not bad for a girl who ain't never going to be skinny." My point in this long response is to advise that you ignore the naysayers - even if YOU are one of them. We are all works in progress. Take it day by day, hour by hour, sip by sip - whichever applies to your current state. This is an ENTIRE lifestyle change. An ENTIRE mental shift. Ease up on yourselves - there are plenty naysayers so you don't need to be one too. To those who have had a 'frozen scale' - increase Protein (if not solids, then shakes or SF Carnation Instant B'fast) & increase fluids. You've heard this before, ad nauseum, but it works. We have all had a frozen scale at one point or another. Anyone who says otherwise is lying. Period. I worked myself into a panic the first few times on here. Swore everyone was losing faster, more, better. Also was convinced, from time to time, that I would remain heavy - statistical fallout in my brain! Don't get sucked into that ~ it's hard to resist, but try hard. Remember, baby steps.

    Hi All ~ I had my gallbladder removed last Monday. I'm doing really well. To be honest, though, it was horrible Tuesday through Friday. I'm not sharing in search of anything. I'm sharing because I waited a long time - a few months - to address the symptoms and I want to advise that you not do the same!

    Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain - I just figured that I'd just had RNY so of course I feel this way! My DOS was 5/30/12. Don't ever assume what you're feeling is par for the course! Talk to your Doctors. Trying to get through last weekend so I could have a scheduled cholecystectomy instead of an emergent chole was very hard. Don't put yourself in my shoes.

    I have only experienced it once post op but my surgeon requires that you take Prilosec daily for six months after surgery. The acid is too rough on the new pouch. I would contact your Doc. Good luck.

    Not Doing So Hot

    I'm almost six months out and I cannot tolerate eggs at all. My nutritionist and dietician advise that eggs are rough on post RNY patients. Have you tolerated them well (post op) before this? I agree with other posts(ers) too ~ some days are just "bad pouch days". Hope you get over this hump soon!

  10. I feel that way too and I'm at 147 lbs right now. I went shipping for a pair of pants because we were going to a family party and I had nothing that came close to fitting. I could wrap my brain around a size 8 "super skinny jean" at all. I kept swearing to the woman trying to convince me of this that I was a much larger size. Credit to her as she stood firm and held my hand while I teared up. I'm not sure why I teared up. Tears of sadness? Tears of joy? Mourning the loss? Shock and awe?! I've adjusted now ~ just in time because my relatively new size 8's are loose now too. I hope that my brain catches up with my heart, or maybe it's vice versa (?), soon ~ and that yours does too! <3

    Rumbling Tummy

    I have the same crazy rumbling noises too. My kids think it's funny. As to your fluid intake, I know it can be especially hard sometimes to keep those numbers up. For protein, I drink a double shake (50 g of protein plus 11 more for the milk) in the morning. It's 12 oz of milk ~ that's a lot of bang for 12 oz. - the yummy shake is by GNC and it's called Lean Shake. I use the chocolate. Good luck!

    Pain In Upper Abdomin

    It's sludge. I have it, gallstones and the same horrible pain you're describing. I have surgery scheduled for Monday morning - 7 a.m. This happens often post RNY ~ as it happens in people who experience rapid weight loss. The stones and sludge are made up of cholesterol among other things. See your surgeon ASAP ~ if your pain gets really bad, you get a fever, etc. go back to the ER. I'm barely able to drink and haven't really eaten in a few days. I have my fingers crossed that I make it to Monday morning ~ and for you to get in with your surgeon soon! Good luck!

    Pancreatitis Anyone?

    Hi there ~ Just wondering if anyone has dealt with pancreatitis? I had a five month check with my doctor and she's concerned that my gallbladder is acting up AND that it may be backing up into my pancreas. Ultrasound is next week (despite her trying to get me in ASAP). Ugh.

    One more thing - I'm not suggesting that you not call your doctor - you should. Just be kind to your pouch - step back to stage 2 for a day or two and see where it goes. Hope this helps.

    I am five months out and this still happens to me! I have no stricture. I think it's fairly common to occasionally have something disagree with your pouch. You should know that I still cannot eat a scrambled egg without throwing it up. My nutritionist says that they're very hard to digest after RNY. Do not panic! You may have ate too fast, ate to much or it may just be that it was the egg. After I experience this I go back to basics. Easy on the pouch for a few days and then I'm fine.

    I asked myself the same question. There is, apparently, a difference in the amount of Fluid in those two scenarios. Drinking before leaves fluid in your pouch which can drain the food with it as it passes from your pouch. Drinking after flushes your pouch and whatever you ate with it. Either one doesn't allow your body time to begin the process of digestion ~ not to mention leaving you feeling hungry again which leads to eating more.

    It was about 6-8 weeks post op. I may have waited a bit longer than necessary though because I had accidentally rolled onto my stomach once ~ OUCH! After that I waited until I was certain I'd be okay. I used pillows too - cushion helps.

    My pain was to the left of my belly button. My Doc said it was likely soreness from my pouch. I'm just five months out today and it still happens occasionally. You will be able to sleep on your stomach again too. I sleep on my stomach every night with no trouble now ~ but it took a while to get there. Good luck.

    It doesn't help that ALL the commercials are for food! I had the same issue arise at roughly the same time. Remind yourself that it's normal - it will take time to learn to differentiate between brain hungry vs belly hungry. I'm dealing with Sandy (NY) too. I'm craving comfort today - Good luck!

    It does go away! I had the same issue. It takes time for muscle to heal ~ and apparently, protein. I wasn't getting a lot of protein in the first few weeks - I have no idea if that was related at all. Someone on here recommended the Unjury Chicken Broth (20 G protein for 6 oz of broth/sold at unjury.com) and it helped me turn the corner. Good luck!

    It takes a while to get to the point where you can tolerate a lot of Protein. Just trying to manage fluids & movement was tough to start off. Remember to measure yourself against only you - nobody else. Ease up on yourself. You will get there. I'm just at five months out (70 lbs down with about 20 to go). I have been drinking GNC Lean shake (chocolate) each morning. I start the day off with a double (12 oz of milk & 2 scoops of powder & a couple of ice cubes) and that's over 60 g of protein. It's by far the best Protein Shake I've tested - but I do add a sprinkle of SF Frozen Hot chocolate Mix (name brand is 20 Below - available on Amazon) to boost the flavor.

    Sadly, I lost a friend today. She didn't die, but our friendship did. I received a text from her a little while ago informing me that our friendship brought her too much sadness. Now I will attest to the fact that I have been difficult to plan outings with in recent months. I have tried hard to be a good friend. This is the second friend to drop me post RNY. It's only been four months. Am I going to lose more? Have you guys experienced this? Wow, what a crappy day.
