1St Post Op Appt. - Infection.
RNYKimmerz replied to fluffylady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The gas was the absolute worst! Mine has finally subsided considerably, but it took about 10 days or so... Walking does actually help it, but there were times where the gas was so bad it took my breath away and I would end up practically doubled over sobbing in pain. Thank goodness that part seems over. -

Friday Weigh-In!
RNYKimmerz replied to KevinsBabyGirl85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You've obviously recently had surgery. I was over 10 pounds heavier than the morning I went to have my surgery when I first weighed myself my first morning home after surgery. It took me a whole week to lose all those 10+ surgery pounds. I will tell you that when my weight loss sped up it got a little exciting, even though I remind myself every morning that here in the beginning those numbers are going down fast because I can eat such small low calorie portions and my resting metabolic rate is still so high because I weigh so much and when I am exercising (cautiously walking because I am still less than 2 weeks post op) the shear weight of my body is working with me so that I am burning more calories without as much work. Please don't be angry... You're almost to the loser's bench... -

Thinking About Cancelling Surgery
RNYKimmerz replied to lotstolose's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It wasn't that strange to write the letters but it was very emotional. I didn't bother with a will because everything that I have is under both mine and my husband's name and no one would ever challenge him on anything. Our only child is 2 and he would obviously remain her Daddy. The letters were just all my input on things he needed to remember while raising a little girl. They are things I would have said anyway, just spread out over years that I was concerned I wouldn't have. My husband found them and got worried and started researching the things that could go wrong while in surgery and seeing as how I had undergone anesthesia 3 times before in the previous 2 years and never had any issues and weighed more than I did this time for the RNY he relaxed. He didn't criticize me for needing to write them to give myself piece of mind, but he told me that he had faith that I would make it through the surgery and I was so thankful to have him waiting for me in my hospital room when I came out of recovery. If they will give you peace of mind, write them. Just know, it tugs hard on your heart strings. Best of luck in your surgery! -
Thinking About Cancelling Surgery

I am very proud of you. My surgery was almost a week ago now. I was so scared I wrote "goodbye letters" to my husband and 2 year old daughter. I was certain once they put me to sleep I would never wake up again. I did wake up though, as I am certain that you did. I have maintained a positive outlook through the pain and I know that my health is going to be phenomenol when this is all over and done with. Congratulations on the start of your new life! -

Friday Weigh-In!
RNYKimmerz replied to KevinsBabyGirl85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm definitely in the club for Friday weigh ins. I've always been the fat daughter, fat sister, fat friend. I have only just had surgery 4 days ago and everyone is being supportive but also admitting that they are not ready for me to become the not fat friend, sister, daughter. My best girl friends are obese as well and have not had any WLS and in most instances are not interested in ever having it done. They tell me they are happy and excited for me, and yet remind me all the time that now we won't be able to do anything together because all of our socializing and celebrating has always involved food. My mother, who is in her 50s and has never been married actually went so far as to say that she never understood how I got men interested in me much less got one to marry me and have remained married to him for almost 11 years. And to top it all off, I've had the "good luck" of being approved for WLS when she has been turned down twice in the last 7 years. She flat out told me that she is jealous of the life I have and the life I am going to have once I am healthier. She and I have never been best friends or anything, but it definitely makes it more challenging to talk to her about what's going on in my life when most of it seems to revolve around my WLS at this point in time. Thank heavens for support groups like I have here. -

It wasn't the highlight of my hospital stay, that's for sure. However, it made it possible to make sure that there are no leaks from any of the sutures. I personally feel that having me swallow some yucky contrast and slightly yuckier barium while being xrayed showed me my pouch, how it works, and that it is perfectly and safely formed. I learned how much liquid I could fit inside as well as how thinner liquids drain quicker than thicker ones. It was pretty neat even if it did taste disgusting. I was terrified of taking the first swallow though because at that point I had no idea how big the pouch was or what would happen if I took too big of a drink. It's gross, but once it was over they brought me in a jug of Water and some tasty sugar free Jello and some less tasty chicken broth. I missed water more than food strangely enough.

I had a laparoscopic RNY done on June 27th at about 8 in the morning. I was out of recovery and in a hospital room by about 2 in the afternoon and discharged the next day around 4 in the afternoon. In order to be discharged my pain had to be controlled (with the same meds they send me home with), I had to be out of bed and walking, I had to urinate, I had to pass my swallow test and keep some food (jello and/broth) and water down, and I had to agree that I felt well enough to take care of myself.

Allergic To Flinstones Vitamins
RNYKimmerz replied to purpleamy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I believe I went to celebratevitamins.com, however I ended up ordering from dietdirect.com because I could order a 1 month supply of the multivitamin, iron, and calcium (all taste like different flavors of sweet tarts) for a little better than $49 and that got me free shipping. Direct from the Celebrste site I would have had to spend over $100 to get free shipping and I only wanted a 1 month supply to try to start. It ended up saving me about $12.95 in shipping and I ended up loving the vitamins and they work well with my pouch. They aren't the cheapest, but I honestly believe you get what you pay for. -
Husband is active duty army stationed at Ft Hood, so we live in Killeen, TX. I was referred to Scott & White, in Temple, TX, for their bariatrics program and just had surgery on June 27th. My surgeon is Dr. Richard Symmonds and he is wonderful. Their program is informative and supportive and the hospital was very nice. I keep telling my husband that I am waiting for the other shoe to drop because this entire process has gone so smoothly, surgery was beautiful, recovery seems to be quite well.

Allergic To Flinstones Vitamins
RNYKimmerz replied to purpleamy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told by my surgeon that the Flintstone vitamins are not sufficient. I take Celebrate brand multivitamins, iron and calcium. They taste kinda like sweet tarts and work well with my pouch.
