I have been following RNY for several months. Reading the post have made me realize that I am not in this alone, there are people that feel the same way I do. I am 56 years old and I have been overweight most of my life. I have tried every diet at least once. There is no telling how many pounds I have gained and lost in my life. I am married with two children that are grown and six grandchildren. I want to feel better and be able to go places without having to stop and rest or tell them to go ahead and I will wait on the bench for them. In life there is that moment when we know we have to make a change. My moment was last November when I had to have emergency surgery on my knee. I was told by the Doctor that I needed to lose 100 lbs. asap or I was looking to have knee replacement within a year. The decision to have this surgery was not a quick decision. I have had severial family members who have died due to complications with type 2 diabeties. With the family history and having diabeties and high blood pressure along with the knee surgery it made me face the fact that I had to decide what to do and not put it off like I had in the past. My weight was of course a very big factor 310 lbs. Wow that took a lot for me to say. When I had made up my mind I went to work on getting everything done so that I could have my surgery in the summer. My surgery is scheduled for July 20th, I am excited, nervious, and scared. I have to be at the hospital at 5:15 am, and that is a good time for me the earlier the better. All of your post have helped me so much whether it was good or bad experieces. I feel like I am going on this journey with my eyes wide open thanks to all of you.
