i fly daily and only 6 months post op and have been flying for the past few months. Of course nothing replaces the advice of your physician, most pt's fly without issues within a few weeks of surgery.

I agree with what worm said. The best thing to do is attend a seminar which will get the ol grey matter a turnin. Then start writting down all the questions you have about WLS and the risk vs reward. This forum is a wealth of knowledge but nothing can take the place of your physician. Make sure you write down what you want to ask. many peope dont and thus forget or get nervous. If you have the list in front of you its easy to just go down the line. I am guessing by the star of life that your in EMS. Use your knowledge to your benefit. It may throw off a nurse or dr when you start asking about things like risk for DVT or what kind of anti platelet agregrate are you going to have me on or do you have a problem not using succinocolyn because i dont want the added risk of malignant hyperthermia. Use your knowledge to better advocate for yourself!

Well I wanted to post to the people that helped me thru this. I am down under 250lbs now and almost 2 months post op. I posted before that my dream was to become a flight medic. Well I qualify now for the rotor wing weight requirements and . . . . Had my interview yesterday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They say I should know by Friday and it seemed like both the director of nursing and the critical care director liked me. So, say a prayer, cross a finger whatever you can do for me I would appreciate. Love y'all and will post if I get it Surgiversary 07/24/12 Sent from my iPhone.

Stalls are a natural part o this process. I think it's important to remember that they are not a ba thing. When I stall I go back to the basics. I look at my food diary and ensure I am not eating out and then I make sure I measure everything and increase exercise. I have had 2 stalls and it corrected both. Physiologically the stalls make sense as your body adjusts to your caloric intake and metabolic demands. Also remember that eatting salty foods for a few days causes retention of fluids, heck even hormones can cause great fluctuations in weight. Just try to relax and go back to the basics. You will do awsome, don't panic. David Surgiversary 07/24/12 Sent from my iPhone.

dstollery posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I had surgery 7/24. With a preop weight of 305. Today I am 245 lbs. down from a 48 waist to a 40, a 4x shirt to An XL and best of all . . . I just accepted a position as a flight medic. Might not seem like a big deal but helicopters have weight limits for flight medics and I now am under the weight. This has been my dream since i started in ems 8 years ago. I start October 8th and I couldn't have done it without RNY and all Of you. Thank you all for your support and for everything. Keep on losing people! Shoot for your dreams and remember you can do it, you have the tools! Surgiversary 07/24/12 Sent from my iPhone. -
