Edema / Lymphatic System
jenneliza replied to BirdAlert's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No that won't work, because you need low carb high protein. The whole point is to shrink your liver and the lemonade diet won't neccesarily do that - and your dr won't recommend it. -
It's amazing how your tastes change! i got really sick of all the sweet protein shakes. had my first puree tonight and it was so good to get a different taste!

Dumping The Confusion About Dumping
jenneliza replied to DLCoggin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for putting this info out there. Well stated as always, and will no doubt help many out. What would we do without you!?! -
Definitely don't over buy before surgery. I have two tubs of it that I liked before but can't stand now. Protein isolate from my understanding is the purest most well absorbed form of protein out there. I also stay away from soy due to high risks of breast cancer from all my aunts.

I did the same and licked the spoon. Just avoided anything chunky.

finally on to purees and allowed to start vitamins again. hoping this gives me more energy!

I agree with all the others about addiction swapping. Also there is a very increased risk of getting ulcers and that just sounds painful!

My surgery was one week ago today. It has been a challenge to stay hydrated, the first few days I was pretty dehydrated and almost went to the hospital a few times. But I pulled through and had no major complications! The stats: Preop diet weight loss 15 lbs and lost 11 pounds this week for a total of 26 pounds in two weeks! I know this is just the beginning but I'm really excited for the rest of the journey!

Cooking/organizing For Returning To Work
jenneliza posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today went to the grocery store and got so excited when I saw all the sugar free products they had like ketchup, BBQ sauce, fruit spread, maple syrup, etc. I found a buch of stuff that will work in the purée phase. There are egg drop Soup packets where you just add Water and eggs and it's no carbs!! Crab was on sale so I'm going to make a bunch of crab cakes with no bread crumbs and purée it then bake in muffin tins and freeze in gallon bags. Can be pulled out for a yummy lunch. Also going to make a bunch of quiche bites from eggface! Am going to put refried Beans with cheese and chilli in tiny containers and freeze too! Hopefully this will be an easy way to get Protein in a hurry! Will probably also do lots of tuna salad. Does anyone else have money or time saving tips for returning back to work? Anything that will make out mornings or evenings go smoother would help!! -

Cooking/organizing For Returning To Work

The best seasoning for crabs and shrimp ever! It's a regional thing they even make chips with old bay around here. Wont eat crabs or shrimp any other way!! -
I'll never try it bc it's not worth stretching. I was thinking about that soda stream concentrate stuff and just trying it in ice water...

Welcome! Every insurance is different in what they require to qualify but you will need approval. Your doctor will handle this. Recovery happens in many phases. You walk immediately. When they rolled me from recovery after surgery they made me walk into my room to the chair not bed. You will walk several times that first day and stay 2-3 days. I started housework and shopping several days after surgery. Have not been cleared for any cardio besides walking yet (I'm 3 weeks ). But am comfortable doing most tasks. Everyone is very different and some are still uncomfortable at this point. Your doctor will give you specifics on their protocol.

Welcome! I'm former military and being a female usually ended up hanging with the wives. This is a great place for support and tricare is good about paying for the surgery!

My nutritionist said saltines are ok bu this early out I wouldn't do more than like 2 per meal. I'm going to do the dip in a bunch of little containers for quick meals. Trying to make sure there are alot of quick dinners bc my kids sports will be starting soon!

Edema / Lymphatic System
jenneliza replied to BirdAlert's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had this issue before surgery. Your first priority is to make sure that this is not a problem with your heart or kidneys. My pitting edema started to go away during the preop diet and has not returned since!! Your sodium intake will drastically decrease which will help. Also losing weight in general will help as well. -
Same here. I don't feel hungry but I don't really get full. This is why portion control is going to super important. At this point you should not have more than 2-3 oz or 1/4 cup!
