  1. I would say give your doc a call just to make sure the pain is something that can wait!

it is pain that occurs after you eat. It can radiate to you back. Any pain should be reported to your doctor.

I have found that I can eat bread, but it goes down easier if it is toasted. You and your new stomach will have a relearning process. Everyone is different. Things that made me sick early on I have no problem with now. It is all trial by error. The one thing I really stay away from is soda. The bubbles hurt.

Freaking Out WHAT HAVE I DONE

I have good news and bad news news: Good news - you are 100% normal and right in track Bad news - it will get worse before it gets better. You have a few more stages to go through and your head is not done torturing you. Stage : 1 - what the hell did I do 2 - first stall - usually hits around the first month - people usually freak out a little during this stage. No it does not mean you have failed No it does not mean you are done losing weight No it does not mean you are a failure 3 - what the hell did I do stage - again 4 - stage 3 is closely followed by raging hormones. You feel like you are a pubescent teenager. Crying at everything and feeling in the mood for a little "fun" ten minutes later. Please be careful during this stage as we become very fertile. 5 - finally hit your groove. Once you survive all those stages in the first 6 weeks you realize you got this and can get through everything! Oh and that's about the time you get to go shopping!

I eat anything I want, but it has taken some time to get here. I tend to find something I really like and eat a lot of it, and then move on to something new. I am on a oatmeal kick right now, and who knows what tomorrow will bring. During you first year I recommend you try things over and over. What made me sick at 3 months had no effect on me at 6 months.

I had the RNY and it does not matter what I eat. I have had it checked by several docs and they have all concluded it is the new me.

My poor husband. I woke up last night about midnight to find him looking at me lovingly. I asked him what was going on and he said your gas is killing me. I honestly think there was green gas coming out of the sheets.
  13. Do the thoughts of - I am only getting..... Because I am skinny ever go away. I am 20 months post op and just got a new job. I am so excited , but that damn question of did I get this because I am skinny still pops up I to my head. When I meet new people and become friends the damn question pops up - would you like me if I was fat. I hate this question. I know it is a mind issue, but to the rest of the veterans does it ever go away?

    Does it ever go away

You are right Dave - thanks for bringing a mans perspective to the table. I needed to hear that!
  15. I am wondering if anyone on this forum has experienced low BP after surgery. My average for the last two days is 95/55. I am also having other symptoms. I am nauseated, dizziness, and fatigue when I have the low BP times. I went to the ER on Wednesday and my CT was normal and my blood work was normal except being low on potassium. They gave me a bag of fluids and sent me home. I have an appointment on Monday to see a new family doctor. I believe I am getting in my fluids and protein in like I should. Any thoughts, suggestions, ideas are welcomed.

    Low Blood Pressure

I have an appointment already set for Monday afternoon. Can anyone think of questions I should ask. Or is there anything else I should track to prove my case. My BP in the er was low but. They suggested it was a bad BP cuff. So I went and bought a new one!!!

    Low Blood Pressure

I am getting about 64 oz of fluid and about 100 grams of protein in each day.

    Low Blood Pressure

I am about 19-20 months post op. I have my own cuff and had been taking it about once an hour. I never had high bp and therefore I was never on any BP meds. My bp has always been on the low side, but never this low on a consistent basis

    Newbie..sort of!

Hello and welcome to the board!

    Struggling...is it too late?

Well you and I have a lot in common. I just passed 19 months post op. I understand the issues with pain and not sleeping. From time to time I fall into an eating trap and eat junk food. I have rheumatoid arthritis and have had it for ten years. Also my mom is disabled due to failed back surgeries. So I have two different perspectives to give you. Let's start with food. Our bodies need the right nutrition to function properly. Protein, carbs and fats and sugars are essential food for the body in some way. The trick is to balance it out. I found that logging my food really helped. I had gotten into a habit of eating junk food a lot and found that it was when I would stop at a gas station while driving around at work. So I changed my habit. I made sure I have snack food in the truck waiting for me. My mother how ever eats whatever sounds good. Which mainly is sweets. She will take a few bites and then stop. I have lots of energy and my mom has none. Next exercise. With RA it is best to stay active. If you lay in bed and do nothing your joint freeze up causing you more pain. So the trick is finding something you can do, and something you enjoy. You want to make sure you do not over do it when you get started. You also need to be aware that you might be sore as you get started. My suggestions for exercise is, walking, gentle yoga, water exercises. Gentle yoga is designed or people with health issues. You do the yoga in a chair for the most part and it is about stretching and moving your joints. Finally let's talk about sleep. Ugh!!! Sleep is essential for our bodies, and yet sometimes it seems our bodies fight it so much. With RA I don't get restful sleep all the time. I may be asleep, but I wake up not feeling rested. Talk to your doctors about this. I take melatonin quite often to help me get to sleep, but not a lot will help me stay awake. Exercising during the day should help with getting to sleep at night. It sounds like the physical issues are a new diagnosis, and I would encourage you to talk to a professional. There are stages of grief that you go through especially if this is a long term issue. I am happy to help with any questions or support that you need.

  22. You might have a stricture. Go to ER as soon as you can. You need to be seen by a professional!

What 3 things do u wish u had been told?

This is one of the tricks your brain will throw at you. In the past you have stopped dieting when you stall and gone back to eating "the good stuff". So realize now around 1 month post op the following will happen.1. You stall. 2. Your hormones are going crazy. As we lose weight out fat cells release hormones. It reminded me of going through puberty all over again. Everything makes you cry! 3. You have the regret feeling. You are asking yourself what in the he$& did I do to myself. All of these things are designed by your brain to make you start eating "the good stuff". The truth is - all though that time is hard it is great that I went through it. All though the silly metal box in the bathroom did not move - my belt buckle did! I also had not had a real good cry in months - it was actually very cleansing! Figure out now a different way to measure your success. One of the ways I would measure my weight loss is how much of my feet I could see in the shower. When I started I could barely see my toes. Now I can see my ankles.
  24. Talk with your doctor. There are meds that can help you. I went through it, and the meds really helped. Once I finally got over the hump I did not need the meds anymore.
