Frustrated and depressed
music1618 replied to Stacyann81's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Sometimes your insurance company will only cover certain hospitals. The hospital my surgeon wants ex to do the surgery wAs not under my plan. They changed hospitals and I had no problems. -
Please know that you are not alone. Below is a list of stages I went through. You are on 2, and you will get through it! Stage : 1 - what the hell did I do 2 - first stall - usually hits around the first month - people usually freak out a little during this stage. No it does not mean you have failed No it does not mean you are done losing weight No it does not mean you are a failure 3 - what the hell did I do stage - again 4 - stage 3 is closely followed by raging hormones. You feel like you are a pubescent teenager. Crying at everything and feeling in the mood for a little "fun" ten minutes later. Please be careful during this stage as we become very fertile. 5 - finally hit your groove. Once you survive all those stages in the first 6 weeks you realize you got this and can get through everything! Oh and that's about the time you get to go shopping!

Try it with lime!! Limes have other nutritional values and to me is better in water
-
Call doc!! It is what you are paying them for. Even if there is nothing wrong you made need stronger pain meds!

I have found that music is the key. There are certain songs that make me crave running. I used to hate it and due to a bad left knee swore I would never enjoy it. Amazingly at 135 lbs I love it. Boobs finally shrunk to a manageable size for enjoyment!!

I would ask questions like Are they knowledgable about WLS? Any medical conditions you may have? What their philosophy is on training? What their goals would be for you? If trainers are not knowledgeable on your health issues or Wls - are they willing to learn? As everyone else has said it comes down to you feeling comfortable and well trained. However that is a two way street. You must speak up if they are pushing you too hard or not enough. If an exercise hurts you must say something. Training does no good if you are out with an injury.

While we all worry about things - in the end it is wasted energy. So many things happen in our lives that we truly have no control over. Does it stop those things if we worry about it - not really! However with that said it is not always easy to turn that damn voice off! The fear of regaining weight is always there in the back of our minds. It is the fear if unknown and a fear of losing control of our weight again. I can't tell you how to turn the voice off for good, as I struggle with her daily, but I can tell you it does no good to listen to her. As for the exercise part - you need to give your body days off. It helps with healing and building muscle. Listen to your body - if it is screaming at you to take a few days then listen to it.

Everyone who is obese, overweight does not have low self esteem?
music1618 replied to ItsmeMissy1's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Well I too felt a lot like you when I began this journey 1.5 years ago. I believed my weight was all because of medication. I was active playing soccer 1-2 times a week and never felt like I used food for emotions. Through this journey you learn so much about yourself, and your preconceived ideas are thrown out the window. I learned that while I did not think I had an issue with food in reality I did. My advise to you is take everything people are saying to you and search your inner self. You will be surprised what you will discover about yourself. This journey tested who I was and who I believed I was. I was surprised at the results in a pleasant way. -
Yes and no After going to a GI doc it was determined that this is the new me. He gave me some medication that slows down the gut. I have adjusted my diet some and do not have as much diarrhea as in the past. Are you having issues?

A Couple of questions.
music1618 replied to Sunlight61's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I could not give up my water before, during and after a meal. I have been drinking water during all stages of eating. I asked my doc during my 1 year check up and he said it was fine as long as the food was swallowed and settled in my stomach. I know this is not the normal response, but it has worked for me. As for the breads and stuff - I am able to eat anything I want at this point in my journey. Untasted bread can sometimes hit my pouch heavy, but everything else is ok. Remember that every doctor is different and mine seems to be very liberal in his views on diets and such. He believes that you must learn to live your new life and what works for you. -
Yep sounds like it could be gallbladder. Call you doc - and let him know you are having pain.
-
I am on a daily regime of prednisone and have not noticed any changes in the color. However I would call your doc just to ease your mind.
-
Well I am not an oldie, but welcome to the boards!! I had rny in June 2012 and I have never looked back.
-
I would get a doc to check them out. They will be able to tell you if the climber is ok for your knees. I don't like stairs as they put a lot of strain on your knees.

I think a food log is important and I am going to start today. I don't realize what or how much in calories I am taking in. I don't get enough orotein or Water. I take about 22-25pilks a day now and some are weight gainers . I'm post op 6 months and I've lost 30 lbs. My doc doesn't seem to be worried. I had 1st fill at 5 months and I think...I know I need another bc I am remaining hungry or eating too much to stave off the hunger. What is anyone suggesting to get in that much protein. w/o too many caks? I do need help . I am going up and down on a regular basis. I start silver sneakers at a nearby gym and I know that will help but intake of protein and water is a problem. Help!!! Well there are good calories associated with protein sources. There are about 4 calories for every gram of protein. So if you are aiming to get 60 grams of protein in you will be taking in 240 calories for that, but they are good calories.
-
What makes you feel like you are doing something wrong? Your body just had major surgery and you body must heal. Sometimes your body throws a little temper tantrum and hold onto everything you put in your mouth. Like all tantrums they will pass. Just stick to what YOUR doc proscribes.
-
After reading you post I would suggest food logs. By keeping a food log there is no guessing you know exactly what you put in your mouth. After logging for a while you will be able to have control over if you gain or lose weight for the week. When eating make sure you are filling up on protein. Protein gives us so many benefits - energy is one of them. Usually by increasing your protein it will jump start a stall. If you are fairly active you need to increase your protein as well. My doctor does not have us worry about calories. He feels that if we are following his guidelines and eat lean and clean everything will fall into place.

Back to the forum.. needing support
music1618 replied to honeydue29's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
First welcome back to the group and my family and I thank you and your husband for service and you for loving and supporting him! Now down to your post - I had surgery just a few months before you and as we continue to live this life and struggle daily with our food choices it is important to remember why we had the surgery to begin with. I could say remember everyday is a new day and get back on program, but I know that is not what I want to hear when I struggle. I want to hear I am not alone in this struggle. When you look around you and see everyone eating "normal" and you sit there and best yourself up over everything you eat can feel lonely. You are not alone. I have fallen off the wagon many times and after beating myself up for several days I remember that it is wasted energy. I had to find and remind myself what was important and why I did this. That helps me during these hard times. So make your mind up to stop beating yourself up and take it one food choice at a time. If you are making bad choices at every meal just start slowly and replace one meal with a rny approved meal. Then make it two meals and so on. Finally start logging your food. It shows the truth in black and white. While you document your food - log your emotions and stresses during meals. When I did that I leaned that my issue was stopping at gas stations during work. I drive all day and when I would stop to use the restroom I would buy junk! I changed that habit by keeping good snacks in my truck. The temptation was tough and I was not always successful at resisting, but recognizing your triggers is a big part of the war! Good luck and remember we are all here and behind you!! -
Try the pool. You will be able to walk, and have the resistance from the water. Bikes are also great!
-
It is actually a blessing. Keeping a record of what you are eating is a great tool after surgery. Many if us use my fitness pal. Once you get in the habit it becomes second nature. Eventually you will be able to predict and have control over your weight loss and gains. Good luck!

Stages of gastricbypass
music1618 replied to Monykaperez1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here is my experience of the stages. The hardest was the emotional part. I hated being a teenager and I really hated feeling like an emotional/hormonal prepubescent teenager at 30+ years old. -
welcome sherry. I had mine at doctors hospital as well. Dr barker did my surgery. I am 1.5 years post op. I loved dr barker, but hated doctors hospital. I am fairly certain I got a nurse fired that evening because of how horrible she was to me.

I would suggest few things. Speak to either a trainer or Physical therapist. Ask them about your knees and proper stretching methods. With my bad knees the IT band stretch is the best. The suggestion about good running shoes is some of the best advise given. Pain I was having in my knees and ankles went away with good running shoes. Always go slow and set small goals for yourself. Don't expect to run a 5k tomorrow. Remember any exercise is better than none because you over did it.

My Pouch HaTeS Snow Crab
music1618 replied to jlmckee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Give it a few months and try snow crab again. Sometimes our pouch puts up a fight the first time, but later is more agreeable! -

I have good news and bad news news: Good news - you are 100% normal and right in track Bad news - it will get worse before it gets better. You have a few more stages to go through and your head is not done torturing you. No it does not mean you have failed No it does not mean you are done losing weight No it does not mean you are a failure 3 - what the hell did I do stage - again 4 - stage 3 is closely followed by raging hormones.
