How Many People Have You Told?
music1618 replied to MrsCaluza's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was open and honest with everyone. If you asked me I told you. I felt that it was my deceleration of getting healthy. Yes I am over weight but look at what I am doing to be healthy. I also did not want people to think I had some disease and that was why I was losing weight. -

I went back after a week. I started a new job a week after my surgery and could not take off any longer. The only issues I had was the pain for the incisions.

My doc told me there is no way to stretch my pouch and it is all a rumor about carbonation. However he said it is because of the way he does the procedure. He said other local docs sew in a place that allows for stretching.

Intense Results
music1618 replied to punk.rock.mama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are times I look at my clothes falling off of me and I can not believe it. I have had people say I look completly different and like a new me. The best thing is that my rhuematoid arthritis doc said my inflammation is the est she has seen it in years and I can start decreasing my prednisone dosage. I start playing soccer next week and I can tell my weight is down because it does not hurt to play. -
My doc said soda was fine, but I figure I have broken the habit and I don't want to get hooked again. I also struggle with staying hydrated and soda defeats the water I drink. To me it is not worth it.

K Wait, So No Alcohol Ever?!
music1618 replied to jadeharper's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 10 weeks out and have had an occastional glass of wine in the evenings and had no problem. However it does go straight to your head. You can not drink the volume you did before the surgery. Make sure someone's with you the first time you drink as you may not know how you will react with your new body! -

Pickles made me sick, but I am told pickle juice has good potassium. It was suggested to me to drink some before my soccer games.

Are The Stars Against Me?
music1618 replied to ladyspl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like your surgeons office is throwing all the road blocks. I interviewed two surgeons before making my decision. One of the key factors for me was that one office seemed very willing to help move things quickly and the other office was not. So shop around find the right office for you! -
How Do You Tell Friends And Family?
music1618 replied to FatFreeinNC's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As long as you are solid in your decision you have nothing to worry about it. I had hit my rock bottom so to speak and nothing was going to change my mind. Listen to their concerns and give them the reasons you are having the surgery. My mom asked me why I was getting the surgery and I was honest with her. I told her I could no longer effectively clean personal areas in the shower. After that she supported my decision. My doctor has billboards all over town and his statement is what is your #1 reason. Everyone is different, but knowing that answer will help you stay strong. -
How Do You Tell Friends And Family?
music1618 replied to FatFreeinNC's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the surgery in June and I found that being honest was the best policy. My hubby was so scared for me to have the surgery and we spent a great deal of time talking about it. I never wanted someone to wonder why I eat so little or losing weight so fast. Things like cancer can cause both of those symptoms so I have been up front with everyone. I feel like it is a statement of getting healthy. It is in no way the easy way out. You must be mentally strong to go through this. Family and friend support is great and those that give you flack or negativity are jealous you are helping yourself. I hope that helps some. -
I also wanted to add to shop around for bariatric doc. I interviewed two and the one I decided on understood auto immune diseases. I hope everything turns out well for you.

When Does The Gas End?
music1618 replied to jadeharper's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The gas sort of stays with me, but gasx is great! -
Went to my surgeons office and my official weight loss is 53lbs. Surgery date was June 5. I was told it is above the curve. Yeah!!!!!!

I have rheumatoid arthritis and had no problem getting my surgery date. I am not 2.5 months post op. You will not be able to have the lap band though. As for the blood work - please keep in mind that 25% of patients never show positive for RA. I was one of those people and it took about 4 years for a diagnosis. Please make sure you do not give up finding an answer. I had to go through several doctors to get my answers. RA is something you can live with and the surgery has helped me so much. Keep your chin up and get second opinions from doctors!

Sh!t Just Got Real. Regrets.
music1618 replied to got2bethin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you would find that if you had eaten something you should not have you would have gotten sick. There are lots of things I want, but throwing it up is a powerful motivator for me -
I was still on clear liquids at 5 days and my doctor said he was not concerned about my protein intake for the first week. He said staying hydrated was more important.

Do You Still Feel Hungry/have Cravings?
music1618 replied to Fishy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
With the cravings I just tell myself someday I can eat that again, but with smaller portions. I have been surprised about what I have been craving. I thought candy bars would be at the top of my list but I do not miss them at all.
