Question? After you eat does your stomach hurt?
music1618 replied to Khuff's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Mine lasted about two months. I started on zofran, but it did not work for me and he switched me to phenergan. That worked. I would drink the liquid and eat about 20 min later. -
I am thinking the lack of replies from her would indicate he was pleasantly surprised!

Question? After you eat does your stomach hurt?

Mine hit at about 6 weeks. Call your doctor there are meds he can give you to help you trough this time. You don't want to get dehydrated or sick from lack of nutrition. -
Well you came to the right place for support. We have all been through it and have come out the other side. Support of family is a key element to this, and although they may not truly understand everything. If are supportive then that is all that matters. You will have set backs, but always keep in mind it took years to get where you are today and it will take time to lose it. Please don't compare yourself to others and their weight loss journey. We are all very different and our bodies react to things differently. Just know that sticking with the program will cause you to lose weight. Also your fear of not wanting to move to new foods will go away. You will find that most people can eat what they want, but in much much smaller portions. It will take your new pouch some time to get use to things, and hopefully by then you are making the right food choices. This journey is more mental than physical. The physical part takes care of itself. If you eat the wrong thing your body will punish you. However it is hard to retrain our brains. When you struggle with that post something on the post op board and you will find the support you need. Remember we have all been through it. Vitamins, Protein and Water are your new goals in life and if you succeed at those three things you will do great. My last bit of advice is to dream! Dream about your new size and what you will do when you get there. I am not talking only about the physical side of things, but also careers, friends, relationships. It has been such a great 8 months for me. I have been on a long roller coaster, but I am finally seeing the positive results and it is great.

Pre-op liquid hell
music1618 replied to SoccerMomma73's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Get used to it because that is life after RNY. I usually eat under 1000 a day. The days I play sports or work out are the times it really show up. I am burning more calories than I take it. Just eat what your doctor lays out in their plan and everything will work out. -
I was told to only eat them if we have to because of all the junk that are in them.

How much protein daily?
music1618 replied to Pam Peltz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told by my doc a 75-90. My trainer said 120 in order to rebuild the muscle I have lost. Finally my supplement guy said 100, but you can never have too much protein. So with that being said I am shooting for 130 on most days. I average about 100-120. For men it is my understanding the levels are higher. Us women do not need as much as you! -
I would think watching after a 19 month old would be exercise in itself! You can do the wii fit.

I am so ready for this!

Glad I could help. It is the beginning to a wonderful and challenging journey. I often thought of careers that interested me and I enjoy being out in the field. I am an animal control officer right now and getting my peace officer license would advance my career. I really want to do cruelty work. My husband is an ex-cop and he supports me. I recently met a great police officer and have been helping him catch a stray dog and he has offered to help me get in and stay in the academy. His wife teaches firearms training and they are both real excited to help. I am a spiritual person and truly believe my grandmother has set all this in motion. Meeting the cop and helping him out. I also now how the confidence to do this. People no longer see me as the fat girl. I am the athletic woman I have always been inside of my fat suit. About three years ago I thought about doing the surgery, but kept making excuses. When I thought about it again in June it was such an easy decision. Once my mind was made up that was that. -
Talking about food....
music1618 replied to kellbell5's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 8 months post op and although I still think a lot about food it is now about what food is going to allow me to reach my goals. In other words your focus changes and how you look at food. You start seeing it from the point of view as food for fuel. You can choose regular, upgrade or premium. They all have their pros and cons and it is now up to you to choose the best for you and your situation that day. -
When did you start your protein drinks
music1618 replied to copmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc said the first couple of weeks he only wanted me to focus on fluid intake. He said he did not care about my protein. -

Not sure I understand your question as there as many ways to take it. I am 8 months post op! I am 200% sure I would do this again, but at 3 months post op I might have said oh hell no. I had issues keeping things down and was miserable for 3 months. Now I can eat just about anything I want, but with portion control. Now your mind set towards food does change in many ways. For example I not sure I will ever eat many eggs again. I threw them up trying to advance to quickly on my diet. Once you have thrown something up it is sometimes hard to eat it again. However the desires of food do not really go away. That part is all in your head. What this surgery does is limit what your stomach can take in. Your mind still thinks you can eat like before, but you learn to listen to your pouch. It is your new guide. Eat too fast and your pouch says NO, eat too much and your pouch says NO, eat the wrong thing (too much sugar) your entire body says NO. Also remember everyone is different, and you can not compare yourself to them. You will lose the weight if you stick with the program just be patient. If you want this go get it and watch your dreams come true. I just posted on the post op board that because of my weight loss I have the confidence and physicality to begin the process of being a cop. Doors and windows will open and getting the surgery is the first step. We are always here for you with and questions and struggles. Trust me I have cried while writing a struggle and the support is wonderful! -
I use new life bariatric vitamins. It is a powder form that I add to my protein shake. It has everything we need in a small scoop. You can look it up online.

SO I have had such a great day. I am 8 months post op (down 94) and have enough confidence in myself and my weight loss that I decided to start the process of becoming a police officer. Something I never thought I would be able to do because of my weight. To top it off my trainer asked me to submit a story and before and after pictures to go up on their wall of success. Please remember that although you are struggling now - and trust me I have had my struggles. I spent the first 3 months wishing I had never done this to my body because I could not keep things down. THis hard time will pass and you can reach not only your weights goals, but life goals as well. So when a door closes somewhere a window opens, and sometimes both open for you!

I have been really amazed at the wide differences between surgeons. It makes me really wonder what studies have been done about the restrictions and limitations.

Wow I feel like the girl that walked in late for the party. Not sure what happened, but I have always felt most of us are positive. My doctor seems to be very easy going with guidelines, and I think it is so interesting that there are so many different opinions on this surgery and after care. I also know that I am by no means an expert and learn knew things everyday as my body changes and heals. I am 8 months post op and what I do today is very very different from 1 month post op.
-
I feel you I am 6 pounds away from 100 lost and it seems like it is taking forever.
-
My protein shake can be mixed with just 4oz of milk. I can handle getting that down in about one gulp. It is 30g of protein. I got it at max muscle.
-
I got about 4 post op. however I have not had any in about 3 months.

Recovery supplement after working out?
music1618 replied to speedydvr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Y trainer said protein after your workout is best. My supplement guy said creatine would have too much sugar in it for us. I would look at the ingredients before buying it. My husbands creatine has like 40g of sugar. -
I do a powder that includes everything we need post op except B12. I take that sublingual. I just add the powder to my protein shake.

I know this will not apply to most of you, but I have to ask. Does anyone have a medi port placed before RNY? I am wondering if you had to have it moved or changed after you lost your weight.
-
Yes that is the same thing. Did you have it prior to surgery? I have found that mine is sticking out more and more. It is to the point that I can see the line going into the chest.
