Maybe not keeping it a secret?
music1618 replied to groovykg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have not been shy about who I told. I was proud to stand up and reclaim my life. Almost like it was a declaration of freedom. I Samantha No longer want to be in this fat suit. I want the world to know who I am! I have found that most people that find out have questions about it. I thought my in laws would be the most judgmental and instead they asked me questions for hours because my brother in law was thinking about doing it. It is a personal choice, and for me I wanted people to know about this great procedure that could help me take my life back. You will gain confidence during this process. The first time a cute guy hits on you for no reason, all the compliments you get from people. The big one for me is that all the new people I meet in my life never look at me as fat. -

Why RNY and not the sleeve?
music1618 replied to lisaarellano's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I went in with an open mind. I knew the band was out for me due to rhuematoid arthritis, but between the sleeve and rny I really trusted my docs experience and knowledge. With rny he said there was more long term data to support long term success. I liked the malabsorption aspect because I am still on steroids daily and my concern was that I was still going to be hungry all the time. I figured if I am I can still lose weight because my body will not get all the calories. -
I am in the hospital and getting different doctors telling me different things. A doctor I have trusted for years (my obgyn) says it is my gallbladder causing my pain. The internal med doc says it is my gallbladder, but the general surgeon says it is an ulcer. From my research I think it is my gallbladder, but wanted to see if anyone here has had an ulcer after surgery and wht were your symptoms

I was never told no popcorn and have eaten it many times since with no problem. Check with your doc.

Regretting my choice
music1618 replied to annalobdell79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First I will say been there done that!! One month post op I was crying in my docs office and hated every minute of everyday. I hated hearing just wait it will get better. However trust me this saying is true! If you follow the plan you will lose the weight. Remover we are all different and our bodies are different. Couple of suggestions for you: Your body is still in shock it needs time to adjust to everything. Make sure you are getting your Protein and Water in. Stay on target with your exercise Stop weighing yourself all the time - trust me I know this is hard. Finally every time I have had a stall I still lost inches. Keep your spirits high the weight will come off!! -
I don't believe they can force you to file FMLA if you are using vacation time.
-
If you truly think you will have issues with this boss. Please think about it and then rethink about it. Speak with your doctor and family members. Read up on it. If you have questions please don't hesitate to send me a message.
-
If you are going to be out for any length of time use to medical issues it will qualify for FMLA. You need to get the forms from your hr person and have your doc fill them out.
-
FMLA can be a double edge sword in my experience. It protects your job and when you take off due to illness it allows you to do so no questions asked. Keep in mind there is a possibility that you have some issues post op. the other edge is that they do put what is going on with you and I have found that it can cause issues. I have rhuematoid arthitis and have had to go on FMLA a few times. Each time I have in some ways regretted it. It is true it goes to your HR person, but usually they let the supervisor know what is going on. I have had issues with gossip and resentment for having to take off. At this point I will not file FMLA unless I absolutely have to.

That sounds like what I went through. The very thought of food and my stomach would do flops. Doc gave me meds for it and it slowly to better. I never had a stricture. My doc said when some people lose the weight their body release certain hormones that will cause the extreme nausea.

Unable to exercise after Gastric Bypass RNY
music1618 replied to LodiBarb's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Look into gentle yoga and water aerobics. -
I eat salad at least 2-3 times a week. I would say go slow. I found that creamy dressings hurt and made me sick, but vingerettes were fine

Possible to dump on pain meds?
music1618 replied to Jessica9190's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would call your doctor. About the symptoms and for the nausea with taking the vitamins. Every doc is different, but my first week was nothing but drink your water and if you feel up to it some soup broth. -
Such a gross question, but I need to ask.... (nasal drip)
music1618 replied to katiemay0101's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is a question for your doctor. -

When I took the liquid pain meds I always got a rush feeling. Always call your doctor and let them know. -

I think it is a reaction to the pain meds. I doubt it is dumping. -
Gallbladderproblems
music1618 replied to Solveig Larsen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well it was easier than the bypass. I had issues with the hospital I went to, but the actual surgery was easy. I was playing soccer a week later. -
I stay away from eggs as it was the first food I tried as a solid. I tried to eat them too soon after surgery and they all came up. Kind puts you of eggs for a while.
