My first weight gain at 4 months out! :(
music1618 replied to theby_88's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For those of us who post on the boards all the time and are several months out we see this post all the time. In a few months you will smile when you see a post like this because you will remember how stressed you were and now know it is part of the process. My token advice is this - when I gained or stalled I was still losing inches. To me inches were more important than the weight. I am an athlete and trying to get into the police academy. My workouts are all about gaining muscle. In the end I know that means my weight will go up. No worries though I have gone from a size 22 to a size 8-10. I went from 2-3xl shirts to a s-m. In my soccer game last night I felt like I was a teenager. I scored two goals and could run the entire game. That is what matters. You mentioned you hit a goal by hiking last week. Now set a new goal and go get it!! Anything is within your reaches now! Now with that said I am anxiously waiting to hit 100 lbs lost and that last damn pound will not come off. Keep the faith and keep doing what you are supposed to and it will all work out. Try not to get to wrapped up in a number and remember you did this to get healthy! -
I was back to work after a week. I was able to play soccer 6 weeks after - although the first game was really hard. What does your doc recommend?

I chose rny because if medications I am on for rhuematoid arthritis. Doc said I had a better success rate with rny, and the sleeve was still very new. He said I would lose more weight with rny. I have friends who had the sleeve done and they regained the weight. I also wanted to do the surgery once. Rny is the final WLS to have done and I wanted to get a proven method the first time.

I am not on hormone replacement. I was a bad bleeder and have had endometriosis and ovarian cysts all my reproductive life. They did two ablations with no relief. Finally after 5 years of asking my doc she finally took the uterus. I am so glad it is gone. No more heavy bleeding, or cramps. I still get the ovarian cysts from time to time. The iud was not an option for me due to an overly sensitive cervix. Just know you have lots of options.

I had a hysterectomy, but they left the overies.

If your done why not a hystorectomy?

Compare RNY Surgery for me?
music1618 replied to mylynn1377's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I have had a hystorectomy, gallbladder, and several ovarian cyst removed. Along with several joint surgeries. The worst part was the gas in my stomach. It was really the only pain I had, but it was a 4-5 out of 10 for me. I have a high pain tolerance as well. I would compare it to my hystorectomy there was discomfort in the abdomen area, but really just soreness. I was up and back to work in a week. I had soreness around the incision sites where my clothes touched them. Hope that helps! -
Curious about Alcohol
music1618 replied to Olivereindeer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For your first time drinking after surgery make sure you are with trusted friends. One drink and I was feeling very happy. All though the feeling does not last long at all, but is very intense. Only one drink made me hurt in my pouch, but I think it was the liqueur used. It was a Cosmo on my birthday. I have had champagne since the surgery at a Christmas party and had no issues. Each doctor is different so make sure your doc says it is ok. Mine said it was fine. It is true that a lot of people transfer addiction and once I had my first drink I completely understood why. The feeling is immediate and very satisfying. So be careful! -

rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia

It never has for me either. In fact they make me throw up violently. Try something called Volteren gel. It Is a topical anti inflammatory medication. You apply it to your joints that hurt. Ask your doc about it! -

1) I have had RA for 10 years and just had my RNY in June of 2012. I am on actemra given by iv once a month, methotrexate given by injection once a week and prednisone taken daily by pill. 2) yes my flare ups have been much better. I was getting them about once a month, and my doc said my joints were always swollen. Now my flare ups are easier on me. I have so much more energy and spunk. My last doc visit dr said my swelling was so much better. I still have my bad days, but instead of once a week of bad days it is once every couple of weeks. 3) talk with your RA doc and ask them what you need to do to prepare for surgery. For example mine wanted me to decrease the prednisone before I went into surgery. If you are taking NSAIDs be sure to talk with all your docs about what you will take after surgery. Ask about exercise and what you can do and how soon. Check into Water aerobics and gentle yoga. How long have you had RA and fibro? -
Did you have your surgery done in the great state of Texas? If so where - I am in the dfw area!

rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia
music1618 replied to missybrown44's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have RA and have for about ten years now. I had RNY due to my weight gain because of prednisone. I have been on prednisone for about 5 years. I decided to have the surgery to reduce my weight with the goal of getting of the steroids. I have struggled with finding a treatment that worked, but now receive monthly iv infusions for my RA. I had my RNY June 5, 2011. I have lost 99lbs and have gone from a size 22 to a size 10. However my biggest accomplishment is that I have gone from a dosage of 20mg a day on steroids to 2.5 and weaning myself to 0 this month. I am happy to report that my joints are happier and not hurting as much. I am playing soccer 4 times a week without needing lots of pain medication. Bottom line this surgery will not cure RA, but it will impact your quality of life with the disease. Please feel free to ask me any questions. -

music1618 replied to khalilmom90's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is why I have gotten off track. I have been home sick for about a week with and ovarian cyst. It has disrupted my schedule and I feel like snacking all day long. Since my hormones are on overdrive I am craving all the bad stuff. My head hunger is so strong right now and it is driving me nuts! -

Has it been easy keeping the weight off? -
I drink a 4 oz protein drink. It has 30 grams of protein and with it only being 4 oz I can chug it and be done. It is muscle max brand. It is called max pro. I use the orange flavor and it sort of tastes like orange sherbet push up pop. I use lactose free 2% milk. I also add in my vitamins and in one serving I get 38 grams of protein and all the vitamins I need for the day.

Whats was the First thing.....
music1618 replied to libra_lisa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me the first big thing that made me smile was that I could look down and see my feet. I usually avoided scales and would measure my success of weight loss by how much of my feet I could see in the shower. After my surgery I looked down a was surprised I could see so much of my feet. -

I had mine done June 5 2012. I have lost 98 pounds and have gone from a size 22 to 10 in pants, and a 2xl to a small in shirts. I went with dr. Wade barker. When is your surgery?
