Tips from a veteran :-)
music1618 replied to longercurlz's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I played soccer 6 weeks after the surgery. I am 8 months out and play soccer 5 nights a week and lift weight 3-5 times a week. Listen to your body and let it guide you. -
Words of encouragement for those struggling
music1618 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone, I have had an incredible week and wanted to share my joy and offer words of encouragement to those just out of pre op. I am 9 months out and have lost 110. I struggled for the first 4 months, but I have come out of that and life is wonderful!!!! Please don't give up and know that things will get better. It just takes patience and tenacity. Know that we have all been there and understand what you are going through. Most of all you are not alone!! The new you and your new life are worth the hard times!! -

almost a week out.. STARVING
music1618 replied to kmarcelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You might be experiencing head hunger and not real hunger. Head hunger is just what it sounds like. At one week out you should not be hungry -
I eat treats every now and then. Just don't over due it. Now hiding the cookies from family is something different and something you should work on.

After my rny I had several uti. Your body is getting rid of keystones like crazy right now and I think that is what caused mine. Get to the doc. My obgyn started me on a daily dose of macrobid to help get rid of them.

You might be taking the ambien CR and that gave me bad side effects. I became very sexually aggressive. Poor hubby did not know what to do. Problem is I would not remember much of it. Now that I am on regular ambien I do not have that issue. -
Vitamins..in what order?
music1618 replied to RoxyFoxy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The vitamins I take are all inclusive for bariatric patients. I just add a scoop of powder to my protein shake in the am and I have my vitamins. Except for b12 and I take it in the am as well. It is called new life bariatric. Takes the guess work out of everything! -

I take ambien and had no issues. It did hit me faster than before. As for the crushing of pills - yes for the first few weeks you will need to crush them and drink with water. When you start on more solid food you can typically handle small pills. -

I think I can help you with some of your questions. I am 8 months post op and have Rhumatoid Arthritis. 1. I did not lose any hair during this process. I was not good with my Protein intake for the first 6 months. I was low everyday. I could not drink the Protein shakes until 6 months in. My doc said it takes your hair 3-4 months to respond to lack of protein. 2. I am an animal control officer and drive around all day long. My meals consist of the following: 6:00am Protein shake 7:30am energy/supplement drink - i mix this up at home 9:00am Peanut Butter crackers 11:00am lunch - i usually stop somewhere and choose the best options for me. At 8 months out I can eat just about anything in small quanities. Wendys chili is usually good for me, or a good piece of fish. 2:00pm peanut butter crackers 5:00pm dinner 8:00 - protein shake (if I have not made my protein intake for the day) on the days I strentgh train I drink another post op protein shake in the morning 3. The pain is easier than the rotator cuff surgery. I have had bone spurs in both shoulders and had them operated on. This is a walk in the park compared to those. There is post op pain, but it is really just soreness. Gas pain is the worest and as long as you get up and walk around you will be fine. Bones are not involved and I think that has something to do with it. 4. as for the NSAIDS. I have never been able to tolerate them as they make me throw up. MY RA doc gives me a topical NSAIDS called Volteren gel. THey make it in a patch and a gel. YOu rub it on the area and it goes through the skin and not your stomach. 5.staying hydrated was a little tricky the first few months. Now I dont seem to have an issue with it. I play soccer 5 nights a week and i am able to stay hydrated during my games. Now the first few months you will feel like you will never be able to drink enough, but your body is just adjusting and it will pass. But if you love drinking Water like I did it will be a painful process. 6. I started my new job a week after my surgery. WE were in training class for several weeks, and I was sitting most of the time. I only had pain where my incisions were as they rubbed against my clothes. If you have any other questions let me know.

My doc does not have us track those items. He said keep things lean and clean and we will be ok!

Relationships after--pre surgery anger
music1618 replied to starrliina's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I have thought and thought about what to say to you. My advise will be a little altered as I am married and I did not want to post to come off sounding like an after school special - so here it goes! If he is not mature enough and secure enough in his own manhood to ask you out now than he is not worth your time and does love you the way you love him. I am 8 months post op and just celebrated two milestones. I lost over a hundred and met my personal goal. I am happily married for 10 years and for the first time in our relationship I am the skinny one. Our relationship has changed so much this past year and all for the better. I understand the feeling of well if he can accept me this way then he must really love me. I have had those thoughts many times. I often felt my hubby deserved someone thinner and better looking, but while thinking about responding to your post I realized my husband loves the inner me. He was mature enough to look past my wrapper and see the inner me. Now that my outer me is not so squishy I have confidence like you would not believe. I have always been a confident woman, but this took it to a whole new level. You are going to have men hit on you like crazy now and what is important to realize is that although they may like the new package you are presenting none of that matters. For a relationship to be strong it has to be about more than the just the physical attraction. I have wondered many times is this person only talking to me because I am skinny - maybe so. Once I get to know them I show them the before pictures! Bottom line after you start losing weight and trying on new clothes and feeling good - this boy will not be able to keep up! -
I would suggest between each bite put your fork down and chew. Count to 20 and take the next bite.

Will i ever feel normal fullness again?
music1618 replied to pookybear's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel like I have eaten thanksgiving dinner when I am full. Oh it hurts and when you have only eaten a little bit it can be tough. -
I have my first bad cold since my bypass in June 2012. I got antibiotics for the ear infection and DayQuil for the URI. However something is making me feel like I am on speed. I don't remember driving home yesterday and had to turn around on my way to work today. I am not able to keep much food down as I am throwing things up. Please help me. I'm not even sure what doctor I should reach out to.

Lactose intolerant?

Try the lactaid milk. I really can not tell the difference when mixed in my protein shake. -

104lbs. I can not believe it. It is gone and will never return. This has been such a long but good journey. I had surgery June 5, 2012 - I started at 256 and today I weigh 152. I went from a size 22 pant to an 8. 2xl to a s-m shirt. I LOVE having my life back. For the first time in our 10 year marriage I am the skinny one!!! Thanks so much for the support here. When ever I had bad days I would lean on this board for support and it got me through the hard times. -
I would say after 7 kids you deserve to do something for yourself. You want to be able to play with the kids as they grow up. I am 8 months post op and have so much energy! Your daughter being jealous is her issues not yours. Have her go to some appointments with you and maybe she can talk to the doctor and have her questions answered.

Yes it is gas. You need to walk around. It is the only way to get the gas out of you.
