buying a scale.
music1618 replied to brandnewme2013's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you ever thought about other ways to measure your success. Why does it always have to be about the number. For example you could judge it by your clothes fitting. When I hated getting on the scale I judged my weight by my toes. In the shower I would look straight down and determine where I could see my toes. I knew it was time for surgery when my toes disappeared. I am proud to say I can now see my toes and half of my feet. Be creative an find something that will work for you if you know the scale will make you obsessed and stressed out. -
what is up with my tummy?
music1618 replied to Obeasta's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My first thought was gallbladder. My pain was in the area you describe. If the pain has lasted two days I would call the doc. Certain foods make gallbladder worse. Dairy is a trigger food and if you just ate some cheese then I would lean towards gallbladder. When I was in the hospital for my gallbladder they had to figure out if it was an ulcer or the gallbladder. I was convinced it was my gallbladder, but the surgeon at the hospital said it was an ulcer. He even bet me 5 dollars that he was right. I should have collected my money because I won that bet. The pains are very similar from my understanding. My other thought was that it sound like dumping. The feeling of having to lie down is what dumping felt like to me. -
Oh trust me I had the feeling of - did I lose my damn mind - why in the hell did I do this to my body. It is normal. I actually cried like a baby in the doctors office. Thankfully he is a great doctor and took time to help me out. He got me on meds to help the nausea and throwing up.

Tired! Need advice
music1618 replied to So0n2bSliM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Being tired is usually an indication of lack of protein. The previous poster said b12, but my doc warned that it does not always give everyone a sense of energy. While you new to make sure you are taking your b12 don't stop taking it if you don't feel an energy boost. Protein is essential for energy it is the fuel for our body. Make sure you are getting in all your protein as a starting point. Also remember you just went through major surgery and sometimes it takes our body a little while to recover. -

Well I can say this - if you stress about it then you will unknowingly hold onto weight. Follow you docs instructions and start working out as soon as you can. Don't get discouraged when the scale does not move because you will be losing your inches! Keep your goal in mind and have fun achieving it! The sky is the limit!!! -
Gallbladder surgery
music1618 replied to vbgirl264's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mine out at 5 months post op. it was an easy surgery in my long list of surgeries. I was less painful than having the gallbladder in. -
I used it recently in an emergency situation and had no issues. I was about 10 months post op at the time.

My best advise to you is two things: When you me doctor says you can start working out - go get your butt in the gym Secondly when you hit your first stall - don't panic. That is when I lost the most inches and in my opinion that was more important than the scale. -

I am 5'4 and started out at 256. I lost about 25-30 the first month. At this time I am down 115 lbs and It has been 11 months. I have gone from a size 22 to a 6 - although I might be in a 4 now. Shirts size was a 2xl and I now fit into a s/m. Hope it helps. -

music1618 replied to saramichelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Also my doc said it was normal for some people to have this issue. He said as the toxins leave the fat cells they can have this effect on some of us "lucky" ones. -

I was sick from about week three until about 3 months post op. my doc gave me several things. He gave me a scapolimen(sp) patch and phenergen. The patch is what they use when you take a cruise. Both worked great and yes it does pass! -
My suggestion is to go try all of the gyms and see which one is a best fit for you. Most gyms have as part of the new comer package a chance to work with a personal trainer. Once you find a gym that feels right to you ask for that free time. Ask them for a work out program that will help you achieve your goals. Things to ask yourself about each gym: Do you feel comfortable working out there? Is it easy to get to from work or home? Is the price reasonable? Do they have classes I want to take? Do they have a pool? Are the locker rooms clean? Do they have reasonable hours of operation?
