I agree with doodle. I would hold off on the strong acid of lines and hot sauce. However I love having lime I. My water and I have read it is good for you. You might try a little in your water to see. As for cravings - I can't get enough Asian food, and seem to be able to tolerate spicer things.

calling all big losers...how many calories?
music1618 replied to califmomto4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just saw on another post how many weeks out you are. At 7 weeks post op you body is still throwing a temper tantrum. I am guessing from your username that you have 4 kids. So think back to the terrible twos - kiddos get mad when they don't get what they want. Your body is the same way. 8 weeks ago you gave into your body and let it have what it wanted. Now you can't and it says fine I will hold onto everything you eat and drink. Just give it time to heal and calm down and the weight will come off. Remember this is a marathon not a sprint. I also try to remind people to look at other indicators that you are losing weight. Try not to get so wrapped up in the scale and lbs lost. Pre surgery I did not like getting on the scale. I measured my weight by how much of my feet I could see in the shower. When my feet disappeared I took action and had the surgery. When my scale and I are having an argument now I go back to looking at my feet. I can proudly say now I can see at least half of my feet. It helps me see the changes and reminds me that lbs are just a number! -

I am a year post op and I will say this is a journey that takes you on a wild ride. I have grown so much as a person. I learned so much about myself. Although the core of myself has not changed my outlook on life and beliefs have changed. Dreams that I never thought I could reach are suddenly within my grasp. Some people can not handle those changes. I have not lost any friends, but my interactions with people are different. You will begin to notice that people treat you differently when you lose your weight. I have a coworker I have issues with now and I do believe it is because of the weight loss. She is overweight herself, and every chance she gets she tells me I am too skinny. At first this really got to me, but now I realize it is her way of dealing with her own issues. She has said many times that she is happy to be fat, and figures if she is going to die she might as well go out with a cheese burger fries and a candy bar. I have also realized that we as overweight people fit a role in people's lives. We are the fat ones of the group, and when you change that outward appearance we can no longer fit into that role. You are no longer the fat one, now you are the one who has confidence and love life and are going for your goals. Sometimes that is hard for people to understand and accept. Now husbands are different. My marriage has strengthened from this experience and after reading many posts I realize I am lucky. Before my surgery my husband and I had long talks about it and all the changes that were to come. I was open and honest with him about everything. I told him that always felt he would sabotage my weight loss efforts by buying junk food and telling me to just ignore it and have will power. As many of us know that is tough to do. About 1 month post op my husband bought a chocolate cream pie. He came home and said he bought something for me. He proudly said I knew it would be soft and you would enjoy it. Now typically I would get mad but keep it to myself. I went to the bedroom and thought about it - came to the conclusion he needed to understand. I told him this is not what I needed and I felt like he wanted to keep me fat. Well at the end of the talk he confessed he bought the pie for himself, but did not want to admit it. He said he wanted sweets at night. We compromised by him buying things that would not tempt me - he bought coconut pies instead. I know I have said a lot, but my bottom line is this talk to your loved ones at length and be open and honest with them. This is a life changing surgery - both mentally and physically.

I would say this is just a phase you are going through. At some point you will be able to eat more than three bites. I hated leftovers before my surgery and now I eat them with no problem. Usually what I get is so good that after just eating a small amount I want more so I enjoy the next day of eating left overs.

I usually do a protein shake before and after a workout.

Junk food cravings and getting off track
music1618 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I need help and suggestions. Next week will be 1 year post op for me. I have lost 116lbs and I am very thankful for it, but I am really struggling right now. I was playing soccer 5 nights a week and getting all my protein in and felt great. However during one of my games about 1.5 months ago I twisted my ankle so bad I chipped some bone. I had to stop soccer and working out while it healed in a boot. On top of that my parents came to stay with my husband and I and they are not concerned with healthy eating. They bought lots of junk food and while they were here we either ate out or cooked fried foods. It put in motion the hole I am trying so desperately to dig out of right now. I am getting back to working out now, but my sweet tooth is so strong right now. My question is what do many of you do to curb that craving. I can't do the sugar free stuff as the fake sugars give me migraines. I don't usually dump on sugar. I am asking this group because I know I will get honest feedback. If I tell my family I will get the typical oh no you are too smart to gain the weight back, but it is my biggest fear. This group here are the only people to truly understand the demons we are facing. Please help me. -

I am going to be honest with you. Your relationship with her will be different after your surgery. You need to be prepared for that. This is more than a weight loss journey. This surgery makes you face things that you did not know were there. I have confronted things within myself that I did not realize were there. Most of it is good, but there have been some dark sides that have come up. Here is a small example: since losing my weight I have discovered I love being a woman. What I mean by that is that I have been a Tom boy all my life. I hated dress and purses and all things womanly. Now all I want to buy is dresses and cute shoes and purses. So a few days ago I had the thought of maybe I was a Tom boy to hide the fact that I was overweight. All your relationships will change most of all your relationship with yourself. The best thing to do is talk about it with your love ones. Tell her your fears and thoughts. I know as women this can be tough, but if you want this journey to strengthen your relationship you must be open and honest. I hope this helps.

I love eating salads. However the firs few times I noticed that creamier salad dressing made me sick.

Do you still have your appendix? -
I would make sure you tell everyone you are a hard stick. Also make sure you drink lots and lots of water the day before surgery. It will help hydrate you. You can also ask for a warm compress to help make the veins pop up. You are the patient and if a nurse comes in and does not take her time finding a vein politely ask for someone else. I am a really really hard stick. I have had to get IVs in my foot before. I had a bad experience with the hospital that did my weight loss surgery. I have something called a medi-port in my chest for iv access. I receive monthly iv medication and I was not going to have then start an iv every time. They got me all set and the anesthesiologist said they would not use the port during surgery and they had to start and iv. He said they would knock me out using the port and do the iv when I was asleep. I said fine no problem. I woke up to find that they tried 11 times to get an iv started. I have a theory that they invited all the student nurses and doctors down to try to get an iv on a hard stick patient. Thank fully I was fully asleep and did not feel the needle that many times. As long as you go into it knowledgable you will be fine. Remember you are the patient and don't deserve to be stuck multiple times. For me when they would try to use the numbing medication my veins would go into hiding. Best thing you can do is drink a lot of water the night before. If your doc says nothing after midnight - I would be drinking a bottle of water at 11:45.

As I got further in my journey the weight loss has slowed. In fact I stopped getting on the scale everyday because it never really changed. I weighed myself this week and I had actually dropped a few more pounds. I am also still losing inches because my pant size is still getting smaller.

It will get better, but it will take time. I could finally quench my thirst at about 4 months

Tomato soup should be fine. They are talking mainly about cream of chicken - they don't want you to eat chunks of chicken or veggies.

I live in north richland hills. I went to dr barker and my surgery was 6-5-12. I love dr barker and his staff.

how long before your weight loss stopped?
music1618 replied to jessiam's topic in Fitness & Exercise
It's not done. You are at a stall, and at this time you are losing inches. Just give it some time. Make sure you are following your plan and the weight loss will start back. -
Please get them resized or don't wear them. I bought one of the plastic thing to keep mine on my finger better. I took my band off one day at work in the bathroom to wash my hands and forgot about it. Someone came into the bathroom and stole it. It broke my heart.

I just wanted to wish everyone a good Memorial Day. This day is always special to me as I have many family and friends that have served or plan to serve our country. We would not be here without their sacrifice. I also say a big thanks to the family of soldiers. They sacrifice just as much as the solider. Also stay strong on this day of cook outs and family gatherings. I know it is tough sometimes seeing people eat like we used to, but the reward greatly out weighs the struggle to remain on program.

I was allowed to play soccer after 6 weeks. I played in an indoor game 6 weeks on the dot and trust me it was tough. I had no energy and had horrible dry mouth. I could not really drink water very well and had to suck on ice. About 8 weeks out it was much easier to play. I learned to suck on the ice to stay hydrated and I started feeling like myself again.

Meds and pouch protection?
music1618 replied to Nel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most on the list look to be anti inflammatories. My doc said that each person is different. There are meds on this list that I have taken since my surgery. So if you have any questions about meds please consult with your surgeon and regular doctor. -
Not enough calories?
music1618 replied to pookybear's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't count my calories. My doc said if you are eating lean and clean calories will not matter. Always eat protein first. Protein has 4 calories per 1 gram. -
