    Working out after GBS

Well there are a lot actually. First of all we loose a lot of muscle mass during this process. It can be hard for us to tone muscle while losing this mass. The typical muscle building workout will not always work as well. It is also hard for us to put the muscle back on. In order to do that correctly you need lots of Protein. While we are focused on our protein most of us have a hard time hitting our protein goals when first starting out. Secondly nutrition is different. Most trainers want to sell their diet and supplements. If you are not careful you could buy items that will do nothing for you. Thirdly many people are just getting started and this is their first time to workout or go into a gym and it can be very intimidating to ask for help. Just think if someone knew exactly what you are going through how much it would help on your journey.

    Lower Abdominal Pain

Uti could cause the pain, but so could female pain. Could it be that time of the month for you. As you have lost weight your fat cells released hormones and that could make your female time a little more intense. Call and talk to your doc tomorrow.
  3. I have had issues with diarrhea since my surgery. I am going for a colonoscopy and endoscopy on Thursday. I am 13 months post op.

    Warrior dash

Isn't it a great feeling!!! I love my new life to. Everyday I am lucky to be alive! I am working towards life dreams and making them come true. Tonight as I was working I drove past the hospital that did my surgery. I remembered what it was like those first few days, weeks and months. The feeling of regret for doing this to my body. I sit here today loving every minute of it. I even got a high five from a handsome guy who noticed my weight loss today.

    Nausea

Yep it is normal. Call your doc on Monday and get help with meds. It will only get worse not better. I waited and when I finally went to my doc I cried for ten min in his office. He gave me phenergen, scapolimen patch and reglan. I hate to say this, but it might get a lot worse before it is better and you will get tired of people saying it will get better.

When I first started I found that creamy type dressings hurt, but the thinner dressings went down fine

    Working out after GBS

I have thought about doing exactly what you are taking about. The trainer my hubby got for me had no clue about rny, but he listened to what I wanted to do and helped me in the regards. I then had a friend help me with some other exercises. I have also found that trainers do not understand people with autoimmune diseases. My RA and RNY gives me a very different view of the world of fitness. I think the key is to find a good routine for working out and start the habit early. I was back playing soccer 8 weeks after my surgery. It has really helped during this time. As for new rny people I always suggest find a goal and work towards it. I want to run a 5k and get accepted to the police academy. That is what I work on when I work out. Most trainers can help you achieve goals.
  8. I thought I had a problem with whey protein, and it turned out it was all protein powder. That all cleared up around 6 months post op. I was finally able to handle the protein powder. Try to find a health food store or nutrition shop that you can try before you buy.

    BBQ Smoked meats

I'm a Texas girl so yes I have tried BBQ since the surgery. I can eat it, but in very small amounts. It makes my pouch feel full after a few bites. But bbq baked beans are now one of my favorite things to eat and Go down well.

    Help

I have good news and bad news! Good news - you are 100% normal, and this will pass. Your body is just throwing a temper tantrum to what you just did to it. Good news - you drop more inches when you go through a stall - so smaller sizes here you come! Bad news - this will happen many many times during this journey. My advise - don't get caught up in numbers - they are just that numbers. Do you feel better? Look better? Could you have done this well without surgery? Find another way to measure you success. i measured it by being able to see my toes in the shower. before surgery they had disappeared. Now i can see half of my foot!

    First week water and protein.

Go get kids sippy cups. They are small and help keep track of your liquids. When you finish one you feel like you really accomplished something. Also set a timer for every 5-10 min to remind you to sip. My doc said he was most concerned with water at this stage. You don't want to get dehydrated.

44 yr old male 1 1/2 yr Post Op

Something my doc said has really stuck with me through the last year. We will gravitate to foods that go down well. For example seafood is really easy on my stomach and I feel like I always over eat on it. However chicken or BBQ sits heavy and I don't eat very much. Now my pouch did not change it is just that I have learned I can eat more of something light. So if given the choice between the two I will go with seafood. So when I get the feeling like my pouch is dysfunctional then I will eat BBQ and within a few bites my pouch hurts and I know everything is fine.

    severe gas and discomfort

If you ever need something for the smell try Devrom - it works great! I now know how much my husband loves me after the gas that has come out of me. It could peel paint and the man stays with me. That is true love!

    Newbie Here

Welcome to the club! I am 33 and 13 months post op. I have lost 117. I was always open about my surgery and never his it from anyone. I took the stance that I am proud I took this step for my health. I have not had anyone say it was the easy way out, and when people ask me I am honest about my experience. I did not fully understand until about a month post op, but this is more about a mental battle and not a physical one. I was no longer physically hungry, but my brain has thrown a major temper tantrum. You never realize how many tv shows have food on them, or food commercials until you just don't want the food. I was sick the first three months and had a hard time keeping things down. Now I eat anything I want. I will say expect to have all your relationships change. You are going through a major life change. The other thing that amazed me was my new relationships. People met the new you and don't know you used to weigh 100 pounds more. They see the new healthy you. This journey will test you mentally and physically. I learned who I was and discovered I was stronger then I thought. At this point I can do anything. In fact I am trying out for the police academy soon - something I never thought I could do a year ago! Your dreams are in your grasp!
  17. I agree with DL. You need to talk to him. Communication is so vital right now for you. Be open and honest with him. I found that getting my hubby out of the house was best for these kind of talks. If we try to talk at home he stares at the tv hoping it will suddenly come on and save him. The key is to be honest and open about your feelings, fears and thoughts.
  18. Mary, We are in the same boat my dear. I have RA and have been on pred for about 6-7 years. Before surgery my dose was 20 mg a day and I am now down to 2.5. I can't seem to get off of it due to hip pain that flares up each time I try. I am also on actemra and methotrexate for my RA. I had the surgery due to the pred usage and I am so glad I did. I had begun to get the moon face from the start of cushings and headed down a bad path. I am 13 months post op and have lost about 117. My weight is stable now and I am happy where I am. As for the grazing I truly believe part of it is mental. I know that I am not hungry - I remember what hunger feels like and this is not it. I remember waking up early in the morning and feeling like I had never eaten before - which was all pred. Now I just feel an urge to snack, and I honestly think it is my brain that is telling me that I am hungry. It comes down to choices - I can choose to give in ( which I sometimes do) or fight against it and drink Water or eat just a few bites of something. I do notice that I get these feelings the most during and right after a flare up. For years we gave into the pred hunger because we felt like we were going to starve to death. Now we have this awesome tool that restricts our intake and we know when we are full. However pred messes with everything and mainly the brain. I don't worry about gaining the weight back. I worked too damn hard to have this fail. I think the key is being honest with ourselves and not allowing our brains to throw temper tantrums. When I get that feeling I try to say to myself am I truly hungry or is it something else. Not sure if this helps, but I wanted you to know you are not alone in the battle of pred! Send me a message if you want to talk more. Samantha

Try weight training. Get into a gym and start lifting weights. Muscle weighs more and will help in maintaining weight loss.
