  1. Thanks to the wisdom of DLCoggin I began logging my food. He made great sense in his post – A little Too Skinny. I did not log my food for many reasons, but the main one was my husband drove me nuts with his logging. It was so bad he actually logged his food during a movie, and to top it off I asked him one day at a restaurant how hungry he was and he pulled out his IPhone and MFP app to decide he how hungry he was. I thought really you have to ask your stupid phone if you are hungry how silly. This was all pre-op and hubby was trying to slim down from a 36 to a 34 waist. Well I have been logging a little over a week now and I get it. I have started losing weight again after assuming I was done with my weight loss after 13 months. I had reached my personal goal, but still secretly wanted to cut 5 pounds. So I went at it with gusto and enthusiasm, and realized a lot about my food habits. Most were not good. I figured I was hitting my protein goal every day, but with logging I was able to see how I was doing throughout the day. Since I was not hitting my goal I began drinking my shakes again. I also noticed the amount of “crap” I was eating, and how much snacking I was doing. As long as I stayed honest with my logging I was staying honest with myself. I have heard Dr. Phil say many times – we cannot change what we do not acknowledge. I am now starting my road to change eating habits and began the process of building a habit for food logging. Food logging allows you to acknowledge what you need to work on, but also what you are doing well. It allows you to realize your small victories. For example as someone who was not hitting my protein goal – I take great pride in saying I hit my protein goal today, and soon it will be a habit and no problem to stay on track. So if you stall, or are unhappy with your weight loss – first ask yourself am I logging my food. You may realize after logging that you are missing something, like I did with my protein intake.
  2. My doc said something at a group meeting that has always stuck with me. We tend to gravitate towards foods we can eat more of. His example was a lady that said she never ate meat because she could only take 2 bites and had to stop. So she was eating stuff that went down easier.

    Weight loss

You do slow down for a week or so when you add in new food, but once your body adjusts you will start losing again. I lost the most inches when I stalled. I did not mind my stalls at all, because it meant I need to go shopping!

    On full liquids

My nut said that those drinks have a lot of sugar and extra stuff you don't need. He said look at the calorie content. It Should be 4 calories to each gram of protein. Lets use the Special K protein shake as an example: It has 10g of protein - so 40 calories are for protein. It has a total of 190 calories so 150 calories are from other items. It has 18g of sugar. 1 gram of sugar has 3.87 calories. You are consuming more calories from sugar than you are for protein. Just something to keep in mind.
  7. It is my understanding from my doc and Nut that it is for the rest of our lives to hit your protein goals. However as we get further along in our journey our choices in protein are expanded. Whole foods protein is the best option - meat, fish, eggs and so on. Then you supplement with shakes. I feel best during the day if I start out with a Protein Shake. I then try to eat lean meats and fish. I also use double pasteurized egg whites in my drinks. Honestly it is tough to get in all my protein everyday, but I realized through logging it is imperative.

    Anti-inflamatories

There are meds that reduce your inflammation with being an anti inflammatory. Like tramadol - it would be worth the research. Also there is voltran gel.
  9. Why don’t we log. As someone who has recently seen the error of my ways I can answer that one easily. It is hard to see our habits black and white staring right at us. It is easier to just eat and not stop and log our food Easier to say I am doing what I am supposed to post op Easier to be ignorant of our food choices. Finally, some of us have not read your great posts and gotten it into our hard heads that logging food is the best thing for us. Thanks DL for setting us straight and helping us see the light!

    Prescribed Post Op Meals?

I have not heard of this and honestly if my doctor suggested it I would have gone shopping for a different doc. I interviewed two docs and one office had so many hoops for me to jump through it was not reasonable as my insurance only required a psych eval.

    dehydration help!

In the beginning I never felt like I was drinking enough. Always had dry mouth, but I kept on sipping. As long as you keep sipping you should be ok. Remember it is all liquids that count. If you drink a protein shake that counts towards you daily liquid consumption. Also ice works wonders as well. I found that sonic ice was the best.

    dehydration help!

As long as your urine is light colored you are ok. If it is dark you are not taking in enough fluids

    (Former) Cereal junkies unite!

I tried the Special K protein and I honestly think a cardboard box would taste better. However my hubby liked it.

    Emotional after Surgery

It is due to our rapid weight loss. Your fat cells have lots of hormones stored in them. As those are leaving our body the hormones are absorbed and thus we become an emotional wreak. Also many of us go through a mourning process. You see the tv commercials or sitcoms and it seems everyone is eating. You on the other hand are having soup for the millionth time and all you really want is a burger and fries. Everyone is different and the emotional stage hits everyone at different times and with different intensity. My suggestion is when you are alone and you feel that urge to cry let it happen. The more you fight the greater the chance of having issues in front of people.

    omg my boobs :((((

Well I am the opposite I some ways. I was a 42F and ready to get rid of them. They were heavy and just in my way as a soccer player. Never had kids as One of my fears was they would become engorged with milk and enter a room 5 minutes before me. Told hubby he had 13 years to play with them and I was done. Now I will say they look horrible right now and hate the way they look. To me they looked like depressed water balloons. Especially when I bend over with our a bra. I am still in a dd cup because of all the loose skin, but at least they are no longer heavy!

    i need a sports bra

Also I have a size five in white that has been worn for about a year. I would be happy to send it to you if you think it would fit. Go to the enell website and check their measurements.

    i need a sports bra

Well the best sports bra ever made is the enell bra. They held me down when i was a 44F playing soccer. However they are not that cheep, but worth the money. You might try running shops. They usually have a wide variety of sports bras and most are made for running.

    Upset stomach tonite

Oh rookie mistake - drinking water after you throw up. You might throw up again. Feel better I really do sympathize as I have been there.

    Hungry ALL the time!

I would say there is a really good chance this is head hunger. At this point in your journey you should not really have a physical feeling of hunger all the time. I would also suggest you log you food. I will give a better idea of what you are putting in your body. Have you talked to your doc yet?

    How many calories?

My doc has never had us count calories. They say eat lean and mean. I believe there are 4 calories to every gram of protein. At this point don't worry about calories. Water and protein are your concerns right now.

    6 h post op.

Yes and you need to get up and walk. Ask your nurse to help you up. The only way to get rid of the gas pain is to walk.
