Since you are asking the questions about yourself I think it speaks volume about who you are. It also tells me you are ready! It shows you are aware enough to know there will be life changes ahead of you. Now the question is why are you putting so much pressure on yourself. The great thing about this surgery is that your stomach does not allow massive amounts of food, and although your brain keeps trying to get you to eat more your stomach ultimately wins the battle. If you eat to much it will either hurt or come back up quickly. I have often said your brain is like a two year old. When it does not get its way it throws a temper tantrum. It sends out the signals of being hungry or a craving. For so many years you have given into your brain, and now you are going to take control. Is it possible that you are sabotaging yourself with the negative thoughts. You are giving in to the negative tiny voice in the back of your head and not the thoughts that are yelling YOU CAN DO THIS. I know how easy it is to give in to the small voice, and learning how to shut that voice up is hard to do. I think many of us struggle with it daily. The next stage of the journey is where your food choices are not limited as much as in the beginning. You may not throw up as much, but you feel full quickly. Before surgery I could pack away food. It would be no problem to eat a 10oz ribeye steak, potatoes, a veggie and bread and salad in one sitting. Now I can eat about 4 oz of steak and a bite of potatoes. I actually feel fuller now than before. It took years for the weight and habits associated with your weight to set in. Expecting yourself to change overnight is setting yourself up for failure. The changes that need to be made you are already doing. You are realizing and recognizing the areas within yourself that need work. With your food logs also write down feelings and stresses in your life at that moment. When you get the urge for a candy bar write down what is going on at that time. For example I noticed that I snack more when I am having a tough day at work. My brain keeps telling me I am hungry, but I don't physically feel hungry. So in order to solve this problem I do the following things: 1. I make sure that I have healthy Snacks available to eat. So if I give in I am at least eating healthy 2. I try to figure out why I have the urge to snack. After logging your feeling for a few weeks you might discover a pattern. If you find one figure out what can be done about it. i was able to figure out that my urge to snack was when I was busy at work or if I had to do a lot of driving at work. 3. Figure out what you can do instead of eating. I try to go work out or get on this message board. This journey is a marathon not a sprint. You are challenged so much during the race that you wake up one day and think damn I am awesome!!! My last piece of advise is to write down a list of your goals and try to focus on the positive side of things. You will discover what a strong and powerful woman you are. We all stumble and fall and have bad days, the important thing to Remember is that we are all here for you!

Hi Lyn and welcome!! If you are able to get your surgery by thanksgiving you will be looking at about 6-7 months before your wedding and I can guarantee you will not be a size 26. It also might cost you more to alter the dress than just buying a new one. I think it will be hard for you to figure out what size you will be at that time. When I got married I actually had my dress made. The dresses that fit my boobs were huge every where else. So it was cheaper for me to get a custom dress. Best place to find people that can make your dress would be bridal shows. Oh and congrats on all the exciting changes in your life - marriage and your step towards a healthy life!

I am 5'4 and my start weight was 256. I went with the bypass because that is what my doc recommended for me. The only complication I had is nausea for the first three months. It was taken care if by medication. I have lost 120 in 13 months.

I have been having pain in my hip for several years. Since I have rheumatoid arthritis I wanted to have a base line X-rays and MRI. I have had several MRI's in my life. In the past it was very painful small. Well as I laid on the bed I thought to myself wow I am going to enter the tube and have no issues. I went in and still had plenty of room to move around and be comfortable. As I laid there I thought about my year of post op victories and I was amazed at my accomplishments and how much I have changed. I came out of the tube smiling! Celebrate your victories big or small they seem!

I would suggest start writing a list of things you feel like need to get done before surgery. Then when you start over thinking things stop and think of a goal you want to reach when you slim down. All dreams and desires are attainable. Your will be amazed of what you can accomplish when you are healthy, confident, and enjoying your life.

What made you chose RNY rather than sleeve?
music1618 replied to Olivereindeer's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Honestly I was an open book. I knew that I was not a candidate for the band because of my rheumatoid arthritis. I interviewed two surgeons before making my choice and both of them suggested the bypass, but said the sleeve would work as well. My reasons for choosing the bypass were simple. 1. I wanted something with a long proven success rate 2. I wanted the malabsorption aspect. I am on steroids for my RA and was the main reason I was so overweight. You are hungry all the time and I figured if I continued on the steroids at least my body would not absorb all the calories. 3. My surgeon said I could do the sleeve now and if it didn't work he could go in and do the bypass - I figured why not just get the bypass and be done with it. 4. My surgeon said it was what he highly recommended with my added health issues. 5. I knew someone that had the band, and then the sleeve and he continued to eat junk and therefore gained weight back each time. -
Let your body be your guide along with your doctor orders. All doc are different and have different protocols. It was months before I physically could have a drink of water and not just a tiny sip. However I did discover that throwing up water was the easiest thing.

It is more than likely water weight. Is it that lovely time of the month for you? Try not to weigh yourself everyday as sometimes your number fluctuate so much from day to day.

I have fought against food logs for a long time, but they really do work. With today's technology you can do it from your smart phone or computer. It is always with you. Once you get used to it - it really helps with you decisions for the day.

My mom did not think she had a case either. Thats why I said just talk to someone. My attorneys will give you a free consolation. It never hurts anyone to talk.

Something smells fishy here. A surgeon does not just deal with what ever they are operating on. They should be looking at the patient as a whole. I would suggest you speak to legal counsel on this. It may be a hospital issue. Not that you would sue, but get your ducks in a row. My mom has had 3 failed back surgeries and did not act quickly enough on surgeon negligence. When she finally obtained her medical records from the first surgeon his records were so far off it was funny. For example they listed my mom as a non-smoker - and trust me she has smoked a pack a day for many many years.

I went with the Nike run app.

Slowly but surely

Oh don't get me wrong I still weigh myself everyday, but the key is not to freak out when the number stays the same or goes up a few. Remember your goals an enjoy the new life with your kiddos! -

That is how I measured success. Try not to get wrapped up in the scale. I wrote down what I wanted to do ad when I reached that goal I added to it the list. Many times people get so obsessed about the scale and the number they forget that we are doing this to live our life. -
Well then you need to start slowly. Walking maybe boring, but it is where you should start. Start out walking a short distance and increase by a little each day. I would wait on using the ten pound weight. The worst thing you can do is too much too soon. You will wake up sore and not want to continue to exercise.

You can do it!!!! Once you have your surgery you will look back at this time and be thankful for your struggles. This journey takes you to places you never thought it would, and I have found I am a much much stronger person than I ever thought I was. We are all here for you!
