Is the Protein shake all it claims to be?
music1618 replied to meyouus's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
It is still true you should be working towards eating your protein as it is natural protein. I am 14 months post op and most days I do not drink a shake. It really depends on what I am doing that day. If I am weight training or playing soccer that evening I will add a protein shake to be able to increase my protein to 130 a day. This is my last result on protein intake. Right now I average 100g a day. I get that through food choices. Everything I eat must have some protein in it. If i am going to eating something there has to be nutritional value to me. However I do indulge every once in a while. I am human after all! As you get further along you are able to eat more than the first few months post op. I can eat 4oz of meat and a few veggies now. According to my doc 1oz of meat is 10g of protein. 4oz of meat and veggies are so much less than I used to eat. My supplement of choice is double pasteurized egg whites. I add it to my drinks. I turn a 0gram drink into a 50g drink without any taste. Depending on how much i need will depend on how many pumps i use. 1 pump equals 3.3 grams of protein. It is a natural protein source so I am not adding synthetic whey protein to my diet unless I need to. Hope that helps -
Drinking after surgery
music1618 replied to vg1276's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I think I had my first glass of wine at 3 months. It goes to your system quickly. Please make sure you are with people you trust and that you will not be driving at all. Please don't drink more than one cocktail, as you will be surprised how fast the effects come and go. However the drink is still in your system after one drink. -

I think I ticked off my pouch :(
music1618 replied to lisalisalisa's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I would suggest you call your doc. Two things come to mind and both need your doc to help you out. 1. Possible stricture - if you are still able to get down Water this is less likely. 2. Grouchy pouchy time - you just need some meds to help. I had grouchy pouchy starting at about 4 weeks lasting until about 3 months. I did not seek help until about 2.5 months post op. I just figured it was part of the process, but I sat in my docs office crying and he said lets get you some help. He ordered zofran and the reglan and the scapolimene patch. It finally started feeling better. -

Lisa how far out are you -
I would suggest calling him again and ask him for meds to help with the nausea. You have to eat and you need to drink.

I would say keep in mind this is just a small part of your journey and it will pass. Also the first couple of days are the hardest! -
I would suggest that when you are both ready to go you should both be protected

not logging food and still successful long term?
music1618 replied to brandnewme2013's topic in Food and Nutrition
I went for 13 months without doing a food log. I had good success. Lost all my weight and reached goal. I began logging my food because I was trying to figure out what was causing some diarrhea I have been having since the beginning of my surgery. DL suggested a log to figure out trigger food for me. Once I started I did very well and enjoyed the control and knowledge logging gives you. I could look at of paper my protein amount. -
Nothing tastes good
music1618 replied to mrs.katie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah you are normal. I find that I go through phases with food. I want something so much that it is all I want. That goes on for about 2-3 weeks and then I don't want it anymore. -
Call you doc.

Your doc is having you stop them because of the increased risk of blood clots that b/c has with it. Before my hysterectomy I was on constant pills and the few times I have had to come off I did not have pain until 1-2 months later. I will give you a word of caution though - during this process you might want to use double protection as we tend to be VERY fertile after the surgery. As our fat cells leave our bodies they shed hormones and we become fertile.

I need to learn all I can about the RNY quickly
music1618 replied to MinnesotaDreaming23's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I choose the RNY because I figured if I was going to go through all this work it might as well be the procedure with proven success. My doc said I could do either sleeve of bypass, but he strongly urged me to do rny. I have rheumatoid arthritis and have been on prednisone for about 6 years. My surgeon was not sure I would lose all the weight I should with just the sleeve. He also said having the malabsorption aspect was the best thing for me, because if I had to increase my steroid level I at least would not be absorbing all the calories. Prednisone makes you really hungry. Before surgery I would wake up at 3 or 4 am feeling like I had never eaten in my life. Nasty drug but a life saver. -

how is there enough time in the day to get all these fluids in?
music1618 replied to bloreorbust's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try egg whites as a way to help you get your goal in. You just add it to your drink and you never know that it's in there. I add mine to my powerade and turn a 0g drink into about 50g protein drink. Each pump is 3.3g of protein. So you can add as little and as much as you want. You don't taste. Make sure it is double pasteurized egg white and not what you get at the grocery store. Also when you add it to your drink stir your drink don't shake. -

Fluids/types of beverages

I would really talk to your nut about this. Every doctor is different and you will get many different responses here. I would hate for you to do something against your docs orders. -
