    Food issues

Don't get depressed - remember you just had major surgery. Everyone's body deals with surgery differently. Make sure though to get out and do as much as you body can tolerate. No activity can be just as harmful as too much.

    Austin texas. Need buddy!

DFW Texas here. I am 15 months post op. here to help with any questions. The key to reducing bat wings is weight training on your arms as soon as your doc allows it. I do not have much arm flab. My flab is my tummy and boobs. When I lay down everything looks great, but when I stand up I see the flabby stomach and my boobs hang down to the floor!
  3. It is strange I can not do protein first thing in the morning. My pouch requires something else in it first. On the morning I have done Protein shake or eggs first thing I always feel sick the rest of the day.

    Food issues

You get energy from Protein. Increase your protein and make sure you are not over doing things as far as physical activity.

    Pre-natal vitamins

My doc said pre natal are good vitamins for RNY. It does have most of what we need. My vitamins are powder form that I add to my protein shake, but on the days I don't do a shake I will take pre natal

    This stall might kill me!

I would say 65lbs in 2.5 months is beyond awesome. I am strange and looked outward to my stalls in weight loss as it meant I got to go shopping again. I lost all my inches during my stalls. So think of it in terms as a new wardrobe is coming soon!!! Also the more you stress the more your body will punish you with the stall. Our brains have a way of getting back at us! After all in the past you would be back to eating the "good stuff" when you hit a stall. Hang in there and get ready for a cute little red dress!

Try reglan and the patch. Zofran never worked for me either.

    Nausea every time i eat

You need to tell your doc how bad you are feeling.there are several anti nausea meds. You may be using one that is not working for you. I felt that way for several months after surgery. Reglan, phenergen and the scapolimene patch is what helped me.
  10. I need a little advice on reassuring my husband. He told me last night that he keeps having dreams that I leave him. He has been having them for several weeks. I am not sure if it is my surgery or my work schedule. I am working nights right now and we are not able to see much of each other. I see him Sunday morning and then not until Wednesday evening. My work schedule will be changing next week and we will be able to see more each other, but I hate that he is feeling like this. I am worried that since I have lost weight he might have some insecurities. I love him dearly and we have a good strong marriage. We have been married for 10 years. He knows I love him, but I hate that he is having these dreams. Any suggestions?

    Advice on hubby

We talked tonight and he said his dreams are that he is walking down the street wondering what I am doing after I have left him. I asked him if he thought it was the weight loss or working nights and he said he was not sure. I went on to ask him if he was scared I was going to leave him now that I have lost the weight. His response was it had never crossed his mind, but thanks to me asking it was. We both laughed and are really looking forward to my schedule change next week.
  12. Nuva ring is an option. You insert it vaginally once a month. You can't feel it and neither can your husband.

One month post op and calorie intake

I do not taste it when I add it to something with flavor. Powerade had a good flavor and I can not taste the egg whites. There is a part of your brain that says - ewwww I am eating raw eggs, but if you can push that aside it is a great way to get protein in. Make sure you do not buy the store egg whites. Only get the one that is double pasteurized.

    Question for long-timers

I am 14 months post op. I am able to eat anything I want really. Chicken can be tough sometimes if it is dry. You will figure out quickly that the items that go down easy you are able to eat more of. I can handle eating steak, but after about 3oz I am full. Where as I can eat about 5oz of fish. So I tend to eat more fish than steaks. I could not tolerate scrambled eggs for several months and I am just now reintroducing them slowly and have had no problems. However cooked eggs sit heavy in my pouch. As my pouch and I continue to get to know each other I am discovering new things and new rules. Our pouches are the ultimate decision maker and sometimes she can be a little fickle. However when I make her mad she explains in her own special way about my food choices.

    Birth Control suggestions?

I have had bad periods all my life along with ovarian cysts. My obgyn told me years ago that BC companies only have the week of pills for your period because women feel like if they do not have a period they might be pregnant. However the truth is you do not need to have a period. I was on continuous BC and did not have a period for years. The Nuva ring was by far the easiest of all the BC. You put it in a forget about it. It does not come out and my husband said he did not feel it during sex. You do need to get on some BC as rny patients tend to be very fertile after the surgery. As our fat cells release hormones our reproductive system goes into overdrive.
  17. Congrats on finding a new doc. I interviewed two docs before going forward. This doctor will be a part of your new life for the rest of your life. You must make sure it is the right doc for you.
  18. Thanks I am really excited to run it!

    Prednisone

I take 2.5 mg of prednisone everyday and have since before the surgery. You should be ok, but I would always call your surgeon just to give them a heads up.
  20. Just a warning I started running and have become almost addicted to it. I think it is because I used to think people were nuts to enjoy running when I was pre op. now I understand completely! Going to try and run my first 5k in December!

One month post op and calorie intake

My nut basically gave us a min amount for Protein - 75g for women and 100 for men. You need protein for so many things. I can tell when I have had a bad protein day because the next day I am tired and irritable. I am 1 year post op and at goal weight for the most part. i am trying to build muscle and lose another 5 pounds as well. My goal is 104g per day due to my activity level and goals. Most days I hit my protein goals. I do not drink Protein shakes on a daily basis as it is best to get your protein from whole foods. My protein supplement of choice is double pasteurized egg whites. I add them to my drinks and can not taste it at all. I will drink 32oz of Powerade and add in 15 pumps of egg whites. I turned a 0g drink into 49.5g drink. It is whole food protein so your body is able to use all of it. I then use food to make up the other 50 g of protein. When calculating your calories keep in mind that 4 calories are in every gram of protein. So if you are taking in 100g protein everyday you start out at 400 calories daily. My next suggestion is that you log your food. This will help you keep track of your protein/carbs/fat on a daily and weekly basis. Keep in mind it is about averages throughout your week. Some days I hit all my goals (which is rare) some day I go over/under. However if you are using food logs like they are intended you can see when you have good/bad days and make adjustments throughout your week. We have a thread started call Food Log Discussion and there is a lot of information on that thread! Come in over and join us!! I attached a picture of the egg white that I use. Always stir in the egg whites don't shake. Shaking it creates foam.
