I need a little advise. My parents are living their retirement dream and traveling in an RV. My husband and I took over their mortgage and live in their house. My parents return to the house every other month for doctor appointments for my mom. When they return they stay in the guest bedroom. Since my surgery my husband and I really try to eat healthier and stay active. However when my parents come to stay my mom brings in a lot of junk food. I'm not sure how to approach her about it. She will ask if I want something from the store and I will say no, and she buys it anyway. I know the adult thing to do is say don't bring junk food into our house, but it's my mom. I grew up respecting my parents and a part of me feels that this is still their house. My parents supported my decision for the surgery and are very proud of my weight loss. I have many conversations with her about eating healthier for her health and she still falls back into old habits of eating nothing but sweets. Help! How do I respect my mom, but also respect my new healthier life style.

Hungry And Full Feeling?
music1618 replied to Chelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it really depends on where you are at in your journey. At first your nerve endings are still healing and you don't get the hunger or full feelings. At about 6 months my hungry feeling was nausea. At 17 months my hungry feeling is a feeling of emptiness mixed with some nausea. My full feeling is like I have just eaten thanksgiving dinner. My brain and stomach does give me the warning bite feeling. The feeling of if you take one more bite you will be miserable. Also keep in mind everyone is different and this journey is about discovering your body and your bodies signals. -
I Suffer From Chronic Loose Bowels Does Any One Else Have This Problem?
music1618 replied to Chelly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had loose stools since my surgery. It did not matter what I ate or did. I was going 4-7 times a day. I went to my surgeon and then a GI doc both said everything was normal. The GI doc gave me something called desperimine. It is a anti depressant, but docs quickly discovered that it slowed down the gut and gave most patients constipation. I was in it for about 5 months. I have been off if it for 2 weeks and everything seems to be going well so far. Please go to the doctor and let them help you. -
Up And Down Weight Loss
music1618 replied to elli'smommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Alright let's have a little reality check. 77 pounds in 4.5 months is AWSOME. From your post I got the feeling you are feeling healthier and following your guidelines, and yet you are frustrated because of a little number. At the end of the day it is just a number. I had the surgery to lead a healthier life style, and achieve my goals. Focus on other goals. Write down a list of goals and start crossing them out a you go along. Once you reach one than add another one. My doc always said when the scale slows down or you hit a stall you tend to lose your inches. Finally find another way to measure your weight loss. I knew I was ready for the surgery when I could no longer see my feet in the shower. So when the scale was not giving me the right answer I would check my feet in the shower. I am proud that I can now see my ankles. Good luck I don't know where the journey will end, but I know where to start. 17 months post op. 125 lost -
It does suck, but it goes by fast and well worth the agony you are in now. Hang in there it does get better and easier.

I was only in hospital over night. I started a new job one week post op. Thankfully it was all training - sat in a class and listened to someone speak all day. The only pain I had was where my pants hit the incision in my stomach. Extra padding with gauze made that go away.

Well I am in Texas, but any questions you have let me know. I am 17 months post op.

I take something called Devrom. It helps me with the gas feeling and the smell!

So the thing with hair loss is that there is a 2 months delay in results. So if you start today and get in the required protein amount tomorrow your hair may still fall out. If you have been getting in your protein you should be just fine. If you have not - there is no time like the present. Protein helps us in so many ways and is a must have post op. Every doc is different so please go with the suggestions of your doc. They know what they did to you and are basing their recommendations on their experience.

My husband says he misses my butt. I still have times where I sit and can feel my tailbone. I think you just learn to adjust.

Call your doctor! It could be gallbladder.

Something that my doc said after my surgery has always stuck with me - you will gravitate to foods you can eat more of. For example I can eat crackers or fruit and not feel real full. However if I eat a steak or dry chicken I can only have a few bites. So naturally I tend to eat fruit and crackers. Although we all know that steak and chicken are what we need to eat, it is human nature to eat things that we know we can have more of.

Time To Give Up On This Site?
music1618 replied to Mid West's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was thinking the same thing today. When I look at new posts it is all for the other groups and hardly any for us. I would hate to lose the support. I hope Alex gets things fixed quickly. -
Go to your iPhone settings and turn off alerts.it is under the notifications tab. Then find the app. See if that helps. It turned off the notifications for me.

Try egg whites. I add them to a flavored drink. It adds protein, and to me it taste no different.

Time To Introduce Myself
music1618 replied to iluvmyArmani's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats on the surgery date. I am 5'4 and weighed 256 as my official starting weight. I am 17 months post op and weigh 135. I went from a 2xl to small shirt and a 22 to a 2 in pants. All your dreams are possible! Stick with the program and enjoy the journey! -
The research I have done says high weight low reps to build muscle, and low weight high reps to tone muscle. However always start a little light and work your way up.

I had the bypass to help with joint pain and chronic pain. I have rheumatoid arthritis and have been on prednisone for many years. It was a vicious cycle for me. I took the pred to be able to function - the pred made me hungry - the food made me gain weight - had to increase pred to function - and so on. My goal was to get off the pred for good. I knew losing weight would help. I am 17 months post op and have lost 125. My joints feel so much better and I only have 1-2 flare ups a month. I have decreased my pred from 20mg a day to 2.5mg a day. Every time I try to go lower I have a flare up, but I am not giving up. I know enjoy life so much. Will the pain ever go away completely - no - but I have more good days than painful days. I exercise all the time. I play soccer 3-4 nights a week. My mom has degenerative disk disease as well, and she does not take good care of her self. Please make sure you get in your protein like you are supposed to. It does so much for our bodies! Good luck!!

There is a big difference. When I take new photos I don't recognize myself. However now when I see old photos of myself I am amazed I was that heavy. Congrats on your weight loss!!

I am weight training at the moment. My weight is fluctuates between 5-10 pounds every month. It depends on what weights I am doing and how much cardio I do each week. What I have really noticed is that my shape has changed.

Just a lil stressed...
music1618 replied to mskami77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I would look at the data with an open mind. At the end of the day you have to be comfortable with your decision. This doctor will be taking care of you for many many years. I interviewed two doctors and went with the one that have me advise in line with my rheumatologist. So consider her data more research material. -
Always ask your doc if you have questions. Every doc is different and you will get different answers.

A few worries for life after surgery
music1618 replied to scretens17's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My advise is to interview several surgeons before making your choice. Explain to them your fears. Then decide which one is right for you. This doctor will be taking care of you for many many many years. I did not lose my hair, I am not the best at taking my vitamins. If you looked at me you would not believe I had weight loss surgery. Many people have commented about how healthy I look. I work out and stay active. Everyone is different so please don't base your decision solely on her experience. -
Did exercising cause you weight gain?
music1618 replied to russianpenny's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Exercising and getting in proper nutrition can be a task. I weight train, run, and play soccer 3-4 nights a week. I only worry about my protein intake. With this much activity calories are a mute point to me. I have reached goal weight and now working on adding muscle. Keep in mind every gram of protein is 4 calories. So I aim for 100 grams of protein - and right off the bat I am at 400 calories. Play around with your protein and calorie goals. The more active you are the more protein you need. -
let's talk about doubts, pre-ops!
music1618 replied to Tizzielish's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What I read from your post is that you are not quite ready yet. I think most people have to hit that bottom before you are truly ready. I was going to do the surgery about 9 years ago, but backed out. I had times where I lost weight, but never enough. Finally one day I was in the shower and could no longer clean personal areas and by the time I had stepped out of the shower my mind was made up. A month later I had the surgery. Best life changing decision of my life.
