Female issues with RNY?
music1618 replied to Kremmell785's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are normal, and many of us have gone through it. As you lose weight your fat cells release hormones, and it can feel like you are going through puberty again. Acne, crying, cramps, bad periods and so on could come up in the first few months after surgery. If things get too bad call your doctor. Also remember that when those hormones release it also makes us very very fertile. So take precautions. -
You do not fill anything in your pouch yet because your body is still healing. The nerve endings need to heal before you will feel full. This is why it is important to measure your foods and liquid I take during the first few months. As for being so thirsty. This does get better. It can be a sign that your body is dehydrating so make sure you are getting in your fluids like your docs instructions. If you are having issues drinking enough suck on ice all day and sip sip sip.

I need lunch ideas. I am 18 months post op and need help buying items for lunch. I do not really have access to a clean microwave, and can not handle bread for sandwiches. It is the holidays and money is tight right now.

Well I have good news and bad news.Good news : you are 100% normal. We all went through that stage. It is a hard stage, but I promise you will make it through. We all have. Bad news: it might get worse before you feel better. You still have a couple more stages to go through. Hormones stage: that is when you are more hormonal than a teenager. Everything makes you cry! This happens as a result of your body losing weight and releasing the hormones in your fat cells. Regret stage: while you are crying like a baby you have a period of regret. The "what in the hell did I do - I just want a slice of pizza" Finally you will hit your first weight loss stall. Best thing I can tell you about that is be patient and know it will not last forever. Trust me it will get better!!

Could be gallbladder. Make sure you call your doc tonight or go to the er.

There are many things you can do. First get in contact with your doc or nut. Second start a food log. With this log add in any feelings or things you notice about why you are eating. Third if you are not working out start, and if you are mix up your workout. Next increase your Protein and amount of calories that you take in each day. Those are all things that can help break a stall. Finally take a really deep breath and relax. Stalls are natural and will happen. You must learn patience and persaverence! Also instead of looking at 80 lbs as negative - I've only lost 80lbs - turn it around. You have lost 80 lbs and that is something to celebrate!!! Enjoy your victories! Congrats on your weight loss!

Confessions Of A Chocoholic
music1618 replied to patticake1448's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 18 months post op and can eat anything I want. I am at goal weight and have only dumped once. I would say I am a chocolate nut as well! I eat chocolate when I want to. There are times it gets out of control and I eat a little more than I should. This is usually around the time of the month for me. I usually crave sweets during that lovely time. I do believe that it is all in how you look at things. I don't consider it cheating. Everything in moderation is normal. I believe if we continue to see it as "cheating" we set ourselves up to fail. We have spent so many years telling ourselves what we must "give up" or "deny" food. It is ingrained in us that we should feel guilty about having a piece of birthday cake on our birthday. With all that said it can be a slippery slope. You must keep yourself in check and make sure you are eating the "guilty" food in moderation. I was several months post op when I went a little crazy and ate a lot of sweets. It started a spiral of guilty feelings and depressive thoughts. These boards help pull me back to reality. The reality was that I needed to figure out why had I started down that path. I discovered that I ate the sweets mainly when I was driving at work and stopped at a gas station. I would then buy sweets and eat them throughout the day. I counter acted this by logging foods and making sure I had snacks in my truck with me. I also found food that would satisfy my sweet tooth that was low in calories, and had other nutritional benefits. Finally I would have a little conversation with myself to figure out why I wanted the food. If you deny yourself the food for the rest of your life then you will either go nuts and eat too much or you become obsessed about what you CAN NOT have. We all paid money to have this surgery, but I mainly paid this money to gain my life back. Make sure you keep yourself in check which since you are posting asking questions means you are. Make sure you don't let anyone make you feel like you are doing everything wrong. Make sure you are following your doctors orders. Finally make sure you stay true to yourself, and remember we are human and not perfect little robots. Congrats on your new life! -
We are all here for you. What do you need help with?

You will blink and you will be a year post op. Congrats

I am 18 months post op and at goal weight. I could use some excess skin removed, but mainly just to reshape a few things. I started at 256 and have lost 125. I think the key is to stay active and get in the gym as soon as you can post op. I was lifting weights and playing soccer as soon as I could. My arms are not flabby at all. My area of need is my tummy and boobs. I started out as a 42f and now they look like deflated saggy water balloons. Not sure there are too many exercises that will help with that. Still working on my stomach and seeing some results as I concentrate on it. Hope that helps

My hubby did not stay with me. They will be getting you up to walk and then give you pain meds to help control your pain. So my personal opinion is plan on your wife staying home with the kiddos.

Balance Issues After Gastric Bypass
music1618 replied to dbrown282's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I get that dizzy feeling when I stand up. I recently had surgery for an ovarian cyst and the pre op nurse took my BP and she made a comment that I had really low BP. She told me to always be careful when standing up. It could be something as simple as BP. -
Shirley,Welcome to the site!! I have had rheumatoid arthritis for about 12 years now. For the past 6 years I have been on prednisone. It was prednisone that made me get the rny surgery. I was on a high dose of 20mg a day. I have never been able to take NSAIDS. Please understand these are two different types of drugs to treat arthritis. The only restriction I was given was that I could not get the lap band surgery. I spoke at length with my rheumatologist about getting the surgery. She said I needed to reduce my pred amount before he would operate. I interview 2 surgeons before making my mind up. It came down how the surgeon was going to handle my prednisone use. The first doctor said I did not need to worry about it. Nothing would be changed pre op. The second doc said he wanted me to reduce my dosage of prednisone . So that I was only taking 5mg before the actual surgery. I went with the second doctor as it was inline with my RA doc. I did not stop my prednisone during the pre op. What meds do they out you on, and what form of arthritis do you have? Please do not hesitate to ask me questions . I am sure you are a little overwhelmed with all the information. Just send me a private message. I am 17 months post op and down 125 pounds. My meds have been decreased. Please send me a private message anytime with questions!

I have been really excited that on December 7th I was going to run my first 5K. I have been training and was excited to reach this goal. I was going to run in the jingle bell run for the arthritis foundation (I have RA). However last week I had some unexpected surgery to remove my right ovary due to cysts. While I am glad to have that pain behind me; I am disappointed that I have to put my goal on hold until another 5k. I still plan to go and walk the 5k with my foster dog, but it will be hard not being able to run it.

My local grocery store puts together this stuffed salmon. It is stuffed with some sort of cheese and it is so yummy!!

I would really check with your doctor. Remember each doctor is different. My doc and NUT said as long as we were getting in the recommended amount they did not care how we got it. Gummies were fine as long as they were giving us what they wanted us to have. I took gummies for the first few months, but then got tired of the taste. Please check with your doc though!

Thanks Vicki How are you doing? Lost sight of people when the site updated.

Cough & Cold What Can I Take?
music1618 replied to Janifer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc said I could take anything. However DayQuil liquid have me some interesting side effects. I took it one day as I was leaving work and I don't remember the drive home or getting changed and into bed. NyQuil I don't have a problem with, but I will not touch DayQuil again. -
Have I Changed? Rocky Roads....
music1618 replied to Cherry's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I would not say that there is something wrong with you or him. Things are changing - you and him are changing. However change can be a good thing. Change allows us to grow, and learn about ourselves. Change does not always have to mean negative things. It sounds to me like you and hubby need to have a long talk. He has feelings and you have feelings and a good marriage is based off good communication. I am much like you I have so much energy after the surgery. I want to go out and enjoy things and my hubby is a home body. He has always been a home body. This is where our communication is key. We come to compromises that benefit both of us. As for the sex again I think your two need to have a long talk about it. We all go through periods in our marriages where sex takes a back seat. Right or wrong it is not always a priority. However I read I a book a long time ago - women need to feel loved to have sex and men need to have sex to feel love. It is the basic chemistry of the two sexes. For us sex makes us feel closer and connected. Maybe your husband just needs that connection, and maybe you do to without knowing it. This surgery opens up so much to us. Many of us feel like we get back to who we truly are. We must remember that as we are changing we must communicate our feelings, wants, and desires to our partners. Many marriages fail after rny and a I truly believe it is because if communication issues. My marriage has gotten stronger, but we have worked at it and we talk all the time. Before the surgery we talked and have continued it. I hope this helps and I wish you could luck. -
Hungry And Full Feeling?
music1618 replied to Chelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At 12 days post op your nerve endings are still healing. You will not feel full for a couple months. Follow your docs instructions on amount and types of food. It is designed to get you through this stage of not feeling your stomach. -
It should not hinder it. Your surgeon may be able to remove the gallbladder at the same time as your rny. It will need to come out as it is common for rny patients to have issues. I had mine removed about 4 months post op.

My son's at Camp Pendleton near San Diego. He asked me to mail him his coat last week because the nights were getting 'a little chilly'. Last year he was deployed from Sept to May so he never experienced a Southern Cali winter and doesn't know what to expect. And with a shattered leg and on crutches he can't move around as much as he's used to. Poor baby is cold. Lol My nephew just graduated from boot camp at Pendleton. He returns tomorrow for his job school. We are so proud of him.

It is 32 degrees and we have sleet rain here in Texas.

It all depends on your docs rules and every doc is different. Soccer is right after day 4-5 it does get a lot easier. Place a call to your doc and let them know about your headaches. Remember this is one of the toughest stages in this journey and it only for a few weeks.

Scared Getting To Goal!
music1618 replied to hipsnomore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 17 months post op from Bypass. Although our surgeries are different I am sure the maintenance phase is the same. I work out 6-7 times a week, and keep my diet the same as I did when I was losing weight. Your body will find its comfortable weight. My goal weight was 150 and my docs was 175. I currently weigh 135. I go up and down from that weight. I truly feel that my body is comfortable between 130 and 140. I am still losing inches though. The best way to stay on track is food logging. With food logs you can predict what your loss/gain will be. It is based off averages. One day you will go over your calorie goal and the next you might be under it. Hope that helps.
