Always follow what your doctor outlined before surgery. If you are supposed to still be on liquids then you should not be eating solids yet. Remember your pouch is still healing and will not alert you when you are overfilling your pouch. I tried to eat eggs the week after surgery and got very ill and threw up for about ten minutes. So please be careful.

Bearman,My suggestion is to be ready for the up and downs of this journey. Follow your docs rules and advise. Understand that you will hit a stall about a month post op and it is normal. It does not mean you have stopped losing weight or done something wrong. Try not to measure your success by the silly number on the metal box. As for exercise my suggestion is to get started as soon as you can. Go slow at first. Finally write down a list of goals when you reach those goals write down new ones. Anything is possible and your dreams can come true! Good luck!

Blood in your stool after surgery
music1618 replied to buff1973's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have not had the problem. Is the blood red? Or does your poop look like coffee grounds -
Always remember that every doctor is different. My doc recommended the gummy vitamins after surgery. So check with your doctor or Nut about the vitamins.

But not too hard of a pat or you might frighten small children and animals with southern sound effects!

Music I like your thinking You know I got to thinking this afternoon - before we take over the world we should invest in a gas mask company. We might as well make a smart investment since we know what the future holds!

I Have been on steroids for rheumatoid arthritis for about 6 years. It was the reason I had the surgery. My goal was to get off of them completely. Although I have greatly reduced the dosage I am still on them. Recently I have had to increase my dosage a little bit to deal with a flare up. My hunger has increased as well. I woke up at 1:30 this morning and felt so hungry. I am so scared of gaining the weight back due to this stupid drug. I have decreased my dosage now that the flare up is done, but the fear remains. I worked so hard to lose the weight, and as everyone fears don't want to gain it back. Thanks for letting me vent a little, I know everyone on here understands my fears.

pre operation anxieties
music1618 replied to jrhancher's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
JRYou are not alone in this. You have a great big family here. As for your wife I would suggest taking her to your support group meetings and doctor appointments. It can be scary for the spouse as this is such a big surgery. My hubby supported my decision, but was so nervous about the surgery he threw up several times on the day of the surgery. The best thing you can do is sit down and have a long talk with your wife. Communication is the key. Get ready to answer the tough questions, and be ready to ask the tough questions. Be open and honest with her. The big question my husband wanted to know was why now. My answer was that I was done being fat. This is a life changing decision for the entire family. Food becomes fuel and is no longer your crutch. Again this is where communication is key. Although my hubby can not understand my feeling of being overweight he listens to me and has supported me. If you ever have any questions we are all here for you. Please don't hesitate to send me a message! Good luck. -
I didn't want to shop for clothes, either, but it was inevitable for me...couldn't wear size 22/24 on a size 12 body...my pants would fall off. I just wear a lot of leggings and stuff that will fit over a long time..it's freezing here in Wisconsin, so I wear a lot of fleece...not sexy, but warm. Lol. In spring I'll have to shop for summer clothes...it gets expensive. Go to local thrift stores for clothes. They are cheap and sometimes you get really lucky. I got a jacket that is reversible for about $5.

pre operation anxieties
music1618 replied to jrhancher's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First off congrats at looking into RNY. I am 18 months post op. 1. Pain is a hard question to answer. Everyone's pain level is different. Rny was not that bad for me in comparison to my shoulder surgery 2. I started a new job a week post op. We were doing mainly off stuff for about a month. Then we got I to the physical part of my job. Give your self time to heal. 3. Your hair is up to you. If you eat your Protein like you are supposed you will not loose your hair. I did not loose mine at all. Please keep in mind it takes you me hair about 3 months ( I believe ) to catch up. So if you stop eating you protein today 3 months your hair will start to fall out. Ask any more questions we are here for you! -
I started a new job 1 week post op. The first month was sitting and listening to policies and procedures. What hurt was the pants rubbing against the incisions. Adding extra bandages fixed that problem. Good luck!!!

My husband said mine are silent but deadly. He swears there is a puff of green smoke that comes with it as well!

I will look into it, thank you...did u get it from a pharmacy or like a supplement store? .. I think my family have become immune to it....but if my oldest has company she's like mom please no surprises...hahahaha Just type in Devrom into your search engine and it will pull up the website. Scroll up on the thread and you can see a picture of it.

My smell was horrible. Once I started taking the devrom that got better. I have often said I know my husband loves me to put up with that smell. The dog even leaves the room!
-
One more thing - let hubby know the next phase is one he should enjoy. At least my husband and I enjoyed feeling like newlyweds again! ????
-
Tell him this tend to be temporary, and now he get to experience what being a girl during puberty was like.
-
I am 18 months post op and still get really bad gas. Try something called Devrom. It helps with the gas and the smell of gas.
-
Yes it is very normal. Many if us go through a second puberty. As we lose weight our fat cells release hormones and those hormone cause us to be moody.
-
Yes your muscle breaks down, but you should not feel it. If you are having pain like that it could be dehydration. Talk to your doctor.

Unexpected aches and pains

I would get it checked out. You are not too young for some auto immune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis. It usually starts in your 20's. Mine was diagnosed when I was 23. -
Female issues with RNY?
music1618 replied to Kremmell785's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's why I warned you. I had a hysterectomy several years before RNY, but have seen so many people on the boards that have gotten pregnant.I will say that i am sure I would have been pregnant if had not had a hysterectomy. Hubby and I were like newlyweds again at about 6 months post op!!! It was so much fun ????! -
Feeling deprived ... Does that go away?
music1618 replied to Mkmb2006's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I am 18 months post op and I can eat anything I want and I do for the most part. I will let you in on a little secret that I wished I had realized a lot sooner in my journey. Think of your brain like a 2 year old child. Like a two year old it wants what it wants when it wants it. Now the trick is to learn when your brain is throwing a tantrum. Also learning the different tricks your brain throws at you to sabotage your journey. Let me tell you about a few of the tantrums and tricks my brain did. 1. You can eat that trick! Once post op you notice how much food is on tv. Tv shows and commercials are every where. My brain started telling me that I should eat scrambled eggs. I remember thinking - I got this. I am feeling great and holding my liquids down. A little scrambled eggs can't hurt. My doctor gives those guidelines for other people, and if he knew how good I felt he would let me eat them. So about a week of my brain telling me this over and over I gave in. My stomach immediately expressed its displeasure and I threw up and felt awful. 2. You would think after throwing up eggs I would have learned - nope a week later my brain was at it again and I finally gave in and ate some lunch meat. Again my stomach explained its displeasure and I threw it up. 3. Your first stall. Your brain is really going to get upset and the tantrum will fly! You will hit your stall about a month in typically. Your body is still getting used to your new body and your brain is struggling to keep up. Finally it says ok stop everything until you give me some answers! It has tried everything to get you to eat things you should not eat. Cravings, head hunger and now a stall. Keep in mind when you would diet in the past you could deny yourself food and felt good when you would lose weight, but when you hit that first stall you give up on the diet. Thinking well if I am denying myself all this food and not losing weight. I might as well eat what I want. So your brain remembers that and it really wants the slice of pizza. So to get what it wants you stop losing weight. Thankfully your stomach dictates what you can eat. You will have cravings and head hunger, but if you take a moment and figure out why do you want that particular food it will help you in your journey. Just remember sometimes your brain can be your own sorest enemy. As the months go on and after I began thinking of my brain like a two year old I was able to conquer the cravings to a more manageable level. I hope this helps and makes sense. It has been a long day at work I am a little tired. And good luck!!! -
Sometimes I feel I ate so much!
music1618 replied to nicki763's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You are not alone in your feelings. My doctor has told me that there is no way to stretch your pouch. You can possibly stretch the stoma, but not the actual pouch. Please remember EVERY doctor is different! He also said something that applies to all of us no matter your doctor. He said that we as humans gravitate to foods that sit well in our pouch. We all know what those foods are and we naturally eat them because we can eat a lot so to speak. Then we come up against food that sits heavy in our pouch. For me it is dry chicken. I don't tend to eat much of the chicken and feel full quicker. So keep that in mind next time you feel like you have eaten too much or too little.
