Is Something Wrong WIth me?
Sparklette replied to Big Wojo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Whats the fat content of the soup? When I was starting out everything that was above like 5g of fat would make me sick. You might be eating too fast. Or too much. Take it slow and listen to your body. -

Gaining Weight?!?!?!
Sparklette replied to PrettyMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Water weight, and you probably still have gas from the surgery. It'll take a few more days for your body to adjust. Keep drinking your water, and getting your Protein in. Walk around a little bit more. And most of all, STAY OFF THE SCALE! At least for the first couple weeks because there is so much fluctuation, it will only hurt you. Give yourself a couple weeks, and don't get discouraged. Get the numbers out of your head. -
What to expect post op...
Sparklette replied to cfranklin526's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have a catheter in my surgery, I asked my doctor about it recently, and he said that he only puts them in if the surgery lasts longer than 3 hours. My surgery was only 2.5 hours. so I dodged a bullet. As for the hospital stay, Take a couple pillows, and a blanket. Hospital beds suck, the mattress is very thin, and my butt was sore by the middle of the night. Put a couple pillows down and it will be much more comfortable. Also, take chapstick, my mouth got super dry. But all in all, it wasn't that bad. -
There is this thing call the 5 day pouch test, Google it. It helps you re-set your pouch in a way.

Everyone is different, if you have more weight to begin with you will lose more in the first couple months.

Grats on your date! You'll do wonderful.

If I had any doubts about this surgery....
Sparklette replied to Crkrjax76's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, I was also borderline diabetic when I had my surgery, and I was only 20 when I got that diagnosis. It's terrifying, but after surgery, the 2 week post op appointment my sugar was 100% normal. Along with my blood pressure, this surgery is a blessing in more ways than just weight loss. -
Totally normal. You'll be really tired while your body adjusts to the trauma from the surgery, along with the adjusted intake. Just keep up with your Vitamins and Water, and try to hit your Protein. Also, I know walking hurts like a bitch right now, but try to move around some, it will help with the pain and some of the energy. Best of luck.

Also, she can apply for student loans, (they are a pain in the ass and if she can get grants or scholarships to cover I wouldn't do it) I'm paying for school with loans, because I don't qualify for any grants (my parents make too much). Also have her to talk with a financial aid adviser at the school, they can help find a bunch of options for her. And also warn her about the dangers of F*cking up the first semester, she can get all of her aid taken away with just one mistake. -

I had traces of H-pylori when I had my blood work done, and that postponed my surgery for 4 weeks while I was on antibiotics. -
I missed my first one. Then the next one started and hasnt really stopped. .. our bodies are full of crazy and it will take a while to become regular again.

What comes next?
Sparklette replied to Tammy wright's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They should call with an initial consult appointment with the surgeon, who will check out your history, order blood work, and check your general health, and insurance conditions to see if you're a good candidate for surgery. Then you'll do all your exams which could include, EKG, Blood work, psych, Stress test, upper GI, endoscope. Then they will send it all back to your insurance and then you wait for your approval. Once you hear back you will either be approved or denied. If you are approved they will schedule your surgery, if you're denied then you will have to appeal, or fulfill some more tests, or time allotment, supervised dieting or whatever. Everyone's experience is different, but this is the general timeline that I've seen. -
I've lost almost 100 lbs since my surgery and I still can't see it. I see the numbers, I see the inches, but I can't seem to see the loss on my body. It's very frustrating. All I can see sometimes is how much more I have to lose. I can see it in pictures, but looking in the mirror, I just see fat. And now it's time to talk to my therapist, haha.

I take milk of mag once a week(ish). Just to keep things going.

I would look in to your surgery policy and gather the requested information before hand, to help speed it up. Communicate regularly with your pcp, surgeon, and insurance company. Most of all, go in to this with a good attitude and you will do wonderful. Best of Luck.

Stationary bikes, recumbent bikes, steppers. Honestly the best think would be swimming, but I know that time constraints suck.
