You don't know unless you ask. 13 questions.
Sparklette replied to meyouus's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
1. Did you find your long term experience to be a smooth"ish" life? I'm only 4 months post op, but after the initial 2 months everything has gone back to normal. 2. Has dumping ever happened to you in public? Yes. But it wasn't as bad as it could have been 3. Just how bad do you need hour to hour care at home post-op? THe first few days were rough, while it isn't essencial that you have someone with you, it was really helpful, getting up and down was very painful but, I was fine to be on my own after about the second-third day. 5. I have a desk job that requires getting up and down a lot, as well as a fair amount of walking. How long would I be out of work? I was out of work for 3 weeks, but I was working retail at the time, so it was slightly physically demanding work, but office work shouldn't be too bad. 6. If the GB is a restrictive diet, how is it any different then than the Band I have now? Gastric bypass is a combined restrictive and bypass procedure not only is your stomach stapled down, but your intestines are re-routed to absorb less food, that along with the sensitivity of the digestive track makes it a much more productive procure than the band. 7. I have had my band for 6 years. Unfilled 1 yr out. My pouch can hold a large meal with little effort and I drink pop that causes no problems. Will I have the same exp with the GB? No, I'm 4 months out and I can bearly eat 4 ounces of food at a time, and drinking pop makes me ill. 8. I have artificial knees, and I've heard that leaks can occur in the stapling. Won't this F up my knees? If I get an infection, and don't catch it soon enough with antibiotics, it's knee revision for me. I'm really not sure. 9.What's this about "no sugar?", forever? Am I right that dumping and pain will follow sugar consumption? Sugar is fine in small doses. my rule of thumb is that if it has more than 10g of sugar per serving then it is a no no, unless it is a Protein rich food, like milk, skim milk has 12g of sugar, but because of the protein in it, it doesn't make me sick. 10. I know I will learn my body and it's tool, but are there things other than sugar to NOT eat, ever?I know you do low carb. Everyone is different and can tolerate different things, I can't eat Pasta, rice or bread, because it make me ill. but some people on here can. You just have to learn what your pouch likes. 11. Like was supposed to be with my band, you have to eat VERY little, or suffer/fail. HOW on Earth can a person actually "feel" full on a cup of food? Or don't you. It's easy to feel full on a cup of food, when your stomach is the size of an egg. THe feeling of fullness is the nerves in your stomach telling you that you are at capacaty. You just need to listen to yourself, and not over eat, overeating with the pouch can be painful. 12. What can I expect post-op to one year in a broad picture? I'll tell you when I'm there. 13. If some odd ailment concerning the stomach comes up in far post-op life, what do you do when most of your stomach is removed? Please, please help me out, I need personal experiences to draw from, yes I know I am unique! Your stomach isn't removed. it is split, with the pouch cut down from a corner, then the lower intestines is re-routed to the pouch, while the remaining stomach is still producing acid and bile that is linked to the upper intestines to aid in digestion as the two flows meet further down the line. Having the stomach still intact does pose a risk for undetectable ulcers in that half of the stomach. -
I have the same issue, I always feel shitty and my doctor and I have tried a lot of different supplements and infusions, and I still feel crappy, and have low levels. My doctor hopes that as I get further along my body will regulate it's self.

a lousy 4 and a half lbs
Sparklette replied to skylily's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're normal. During your hospital stay they probably pumped you full of fluids and junk, I know I came home from the hospital nearly 20 lbs heaver than I left and it took a couple weeks for that to work out of my system. You'll lose it, don't worry, give your body time to adjust. -
My current goal is that I want to be down 200lbs by my birthday, in January. I will be 22, Down 200lbs, and in the 200's. I have 82.9 lbs to lose in little over 4 months.
-
Anyone been told don't loose and if possibly gain 2-3 lbs prior to surgeon visit?
Sparklette replied to Nellie3803's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wear some ankle weights to the weigh in. -
The cleanse was awful! but it's all worth it. You're worth it. Don't stress yourself out, you will be fine. The week before my surgery I got so stressed that I broke out in hives. It was pretty intense, you just need to relax and focus on your endgoal! I'm so excited for you! And as always, I'm always here to talk if you need someone!

Everyone hits stalls and feels stuck from time to time. You need to pick yourself back up and remind yourself that you need to do this, for yourself, for your daughter, for all the kids in your life. You're going to inspire a lot of people, you just have to keep faith and make time for yourself. Keep a food log it will help keep you accountable for your diet. Take the kids and go for a walk, You can do this! -
For Smokers : Have you been told you have to stop smoking?
Sparklette replied to Nellie3803's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to quit smoking at least 6 weeks in advance, they did a nicotine test the day before surgery. But, quitting smoking only makes quitting food that much easier. -

Most produce stores have them ask an associate where they are.

Spaghetti Squash is awesome and easy. Cauliflower fried 'rice' - shredded cauliflower with grilled veggies, chicken and asian seasoning. super yummy. Quinea (sp) I've heard a lot about but haven't tried it yet. it's a good sub for starch, packed with Protein, and supposedly easy to prepare.
-
Chunks was probably a poor word choice. LOL and it p robably wont hurt to start taking it now

My hair just started shedding. I am four months out and it is falling out in chunks. I started using biotin and Garnier (sp) breakag protection conditioner and it is helping some. Luckly my hair is sup er thick and could do with thinning. Lol

Sparklette replied to Tina727's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Usually as long as it isn't an infection, you should be fine. if it's just allergies and stuff you should be alright. Good luck. But remember, Your doctor does things that are in your best interests. -

So, I live in a college town where a lot of my friends go home during the summer. So, I haven't seen a lot of my friends since right after my surgery, a lot of them left in may, my surgery was April 25th. They are coming back next week and I'm super nervous about how they are going to react. My specific worry is this guy, who I was sort of dating before my surgery and the summer. He wants to meet up with me tomorrow, and I'm really self conscious about seeing him again. It's super awful that I've lost 103lbs and I'm still uncomfortable with myself. Sorry for the mini-rant.
