I'm finally having my psych appointment
Sparklette posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
So, back in June, I had my seminar. I had my first consultation, my pre op testing, my psych exam. I failed the psych exam was banished to 6 months of therapy which was finished in January, and now, after fighting with my insurance and psych, I'm now getting my second psych evaluation on the 5th, two months late. But it's happening, I'm so excited and sure I'll pass this time. I'm so excited, and frustrated , and ready! We were held up by the insurance didn't want to pay/ mix up and all that. But we are back in action. Woohoo! -
Great low cal high protein snack!
Sparklette replied to amanda11's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I've heard that some people have problems with jerky, you have to be careful and make sure it's chewed thoroughly I've heard It has a tendency to cause severe constipation. -
I'm still pre-op, I'm waiting for a call to get my surgery date. And I'm just frustrated! I don't know why, the past couple of days I've been on edge, I've been irritable, and I just snapped at my mother. I NEVER snap at my mother. I've been crying on and off, and I'm just all sorts of bleh. Anyone else experience this? I'm about a week and a half in to my pre-op diet.

6 days post op and craving coffee!-suggestions?
Sparklette replied to Natasha K's topic in Food and Nutrition
a friend of mine found a coffee or cappichinno flavored protein shake that she said was amazing! She found it at the Vitamin shop. -
Get something you know you can handle, like soup or fish, and take the rest home for lunch/ dinner tomorrow.

It's probably water weight, since you've been drinking a lot, and your body hasn't purged it. Try going for a walk every day, it helps purge some of it through sweat. and when you walk it settles some gasses, and that purges it aswell. Don't get discouraged, stalls happen. Weigh yourself one a week instead of every day, and look in the mirror, even if the scale isn't moving, your body is changing. keep your head up, and love yourself!

SUGAR FREE POPSICLES ! They are a life savor, esp for the food commercials. They have absolutely nothing in them, and my nut counts them as a fluid!

Straws? When can we use them again
Sparklette replied to jaymi2521's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Straws can allow air to enter the pouch and that will stretch it out. It sucks. -
I would go for it before the baby comes. You won't really have another opportunity for the next 18 years lol.

I'm the only person that I know of who has failed the psych eval. I had a 165 t/f questionnaire and then a 40 minute session with the psych. The questionnaire is a survey taken by 300ish successful bypass patients and it is compared to ours to see if we will be considered 'successful'. Just answer the questions as honestly as you can, because you may have some underlying issues that you need to work out in therapy, like I did. In the long run, six months isn't that long, and it will make you more successful going through the next phase of your life. Just remember this is all about what's best for you, and what will help you and your journey.

I'm still Pre-op, but I live in College Station, and Houston is pretty much the closest group on this site to me.

little more confidence in my decision
Sparklette replied to Debbiebydesign's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The band was the first that I was considering, but once I found out that my insurance covered RNY I quickly x-neyed the band I didn't like the idea of the band, and all the filling and infections and whatnot. -
I'm winding down on my psych appointments and one of her assignments is to make a "bucket list". A list of all the things you'd like to do after you're healthy. I started mine today. 1. Be able to walk without being winded 2. Wear a single-digit clothing size and shop in the 'normal' clothing stores 3. Be able to live the normal life of a 21-year old, not being restricted by my size. 4.Go to an amusement park and not worry about weight restrictions or if I'll fit in the seat. 5. Go to Europe, on an airplane, and not have a seat belt extender. those are a few. What are yours?

Fat chicks dont need to eat at least that how my family feels
Sparklette replied to kparadisek's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OH my god, that would be hilarious! Oh, we've had words, yesterday when I came home from work, four of the shakes were missing, and I was like, wtf, b/c that's like 15 bucks worth of shakes! First I was like, who the hell would drink four of those, And then I was like, that can't be good for them. lol Then I was like, guys, I need this stuff, so don't touch and I'd like you all to replace what you've taken. and they complied and we went to the store and they bought them. and now all is well. For now. -
I've been on my journey since June when I attended a seminar after learning that my insurance covered the surgery. After meeting with my Surgeon on July 7th, I started my pre-op testing, blood work, upper GI, EKG, nut and psych. Everything went well except for my psych, who diagnosed me with depression and anxiety and instructed me to have 6 months of therapy. Which I have one last appointment on Wednesday. I've been on a liquid diet for a week now, and I have my surgeon's appointment in a week to find my date, I'm hoping for the end of January.

Sparklette replied to kparadisek's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have roommates that are always eating my stuff! And it's not like it's highly-coveted things like chocolate or stuff, it's my protein shakes, and lean chicken and things I've bought for my pre-surgery diet, and they know this! but their entitled asses think it's theirs! IT pisses me off! Because no one likes protein shakes, and they're just drinking it because it's there. -

Who are you telling before surgery?
Sparklette replied to BustedBeauty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just went public on facebook. I'm starting the pre op liquid diet tomorrow and figured I needed all the support I could get, so I posted it. I've gotten an overwhelming return of positive feedback. -
So, five and a half months ago I had my first apointment, had my pre op testing and my psych eval. The only thing that didn't check out was the psych eval. So, alas, I was required to attend six months of talk therapy to sort through depression and anxiaty issues, and I'm almost done! My therapist struck a deal with my surgeon to which I can forgo the last month and proceed with what needs to happen, so I had my appointment with my surgeon and I have my surgery scheduled for January 26th! I start my liquid diet this week, and I'm terrified! any tips on surviving the liquid diet?
