I had my RNY surgery on Thursday 6/21/12. I know this surgery is the best decision I have made! In realizing this I decided to write about me:
Since I was young I remember being on the heavy side.Since middle school and all through high school, I remember always being no less than a size 13 or 14. Through the past 12 yrs my weight has been like a yo-yo. I would lose a few lbs, gain them back or sometimes even gain much more! I ws stressed with how i looked, work and family relations and my personal love life. I tried so many diets that I eventually gave up on.
When I was 16 I was diagnosed with 2 Amenoria ( absent periods) I have never had a regualr period to this day. My mom was very worried for me as she and my 2 other sisters got their period at age 11-12. We found out that because of my weight I also had PCOS. (polysystic ovaries) I was and have been unable to get pregnant due to the extra hormones. I was put on different pills to see if they helped. Birth control, metformin, you name it! They didnt help and partly because I also didnt keep up with it. With the continuos wieght gain I was also at a very close level to becoming diabetic. Needless to say most of my family on my mothers side is obese and 4 of my aunts/unlces and great grandma are diabetic.
ABout 4 yrs ago I met my husband. HE met me at my highest of 268 lbs. He is very active and slim. He can eat but has a high metsbolism that he doesnt gain!!!!! 2 yrs ago we decided we wanted kids. Considering the fact that I still dont get periods beacuse of my wieght we decided to go to a fertility dr. I was given pills to start my periods then other pills to increase fertility at that point. We followed the drs instructions carefully. We ended up seeing no outcome and we realized we were spending the money for nothing. after speaking the dr and gyn dr we figured the pills werent doing me any good because tho I was menstrating with the pills I was not ovulating.
Long storty short, I made to decision to have the rny surgey. I am hopeing this surgery will help my hormone levels get back to normal. increase my fertility and help my body natrually menstruate. I know i will have to wait a while before becoming pregnant. I also wanted to reduce the risk in becoming diabetic. IN the future if God grants us kids it well be worth it. I will live a better and healthier life. I felt bad that being the oldest of 5 all my siblings had kids of their own. ppl always asked me, so when are you having one.. this would send me on a roller coaster of emotions.
I wish the best to anyone else deciding on the surgery:)
Good luck!
