Today marks my 1st anniversary of my life saving surgery. For me it was life saving I was on the verge of going out. You could say a heart attack just waiting to happen because of poor choices. I have not posted in a long time for I have been doing a little experiment the last 3 months. I got into bad choices on my own I have been trying to deal with WLS on my own. I have the support of my wife and family but wanted to see if I could do it on my own. (I CAN). I will always be in debt for the support that this forum and Myfitness pal and everyone on it has shown and given to me. We are not alone in our fight to be thin use what ever support you can find and never be ashamed to ask for it. My story is like thousands of others. I started this journey at 290 lbs I was on 11 different medications everything from diabetic to heart meds my health was going down hill fast. My doctor suggested WLS as a way to prolong my life. 1 Year later I have lost a total of 110 lbs I'm currently at 180 lbs the only meds I take are a multi Vitamin and a Iron pill. My diabetes is GONE my acid reflux GONE my high blood pressure GONE all the rest of my problems are GONE. I have just come back from my Heart doctor and have been give a CLEAN BILL OF HEALTH my heart is fine. I will live to see my son grow up and go to collage to get married and to some day make me a grand pa. I know it's only been a year and the test of time is and will be my biggest challenge . A lesson for all that are waiting for their surgery DO not be afraid to ask for help this will be the hardest thing you will ever do. Your life will never be the same again it will BE BETTER And I'm not done I want to lose 10 more lbs doctor says no when they remove the excess skin I will have lost 8-15 lbs more and I may not be health for me. All I know is I never want to go back to what I looked like a year ago Thank you all for all your support

What a great feeling to know that a few short months ago you would never have tried to to reach the top couldn't if your life depended on it. Now look at you go what a inspiration to us all. Keep up the great work. And keep reaching for the stars. PS. NO PAIN NO LOSS -
I have to rotate the iPad to do different things on the forum. What a pain in the butt. They do know about it and are working in the problem

And the journey begins 1.18.13
PaulB replied to PB&J's MaMa's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome Congrats on your new journey this will be the best decision you have ever made. Don't let this scare you but this will also be the hardest thing you have ever done. The weight will fall off after surgery then you will hit a stage where you won't lose any weight for days or weeks no mater what you do. This will pass. There's more advise I could give but if you have been reading post you already know most if it. If not just ask there are a lot of very smart people here that are living the life after WLS. Good luck on your new journey and keep us posted -
For great support check with your doctor and see if there is a gastric support group around your area. They are a great place to learn and meet other people that have been living with gastric surgery and people that are going to have surgery. They will help you thought the hard times ahead. And there will be hard times when you want to know why you did this.but after you start to lose a lot of weight and you look in the mirror and see how great you look you will wish you had done this years ago. And when friends that you haven't seen in a while see how you look now.its all worth it. Group support will show you how to cook for your family and your self they will offer you great recipes and advise on how to live day by day with gastric bypass. Best of all it full of people just like you that won't put you down or make fun of you because of how much you weight they are there to help. My wife even goes with me so she can better understand what I'm going though. And loves the people more then I do. She brings recipes she has tried on me and stuff she has found on the Internet Don't be afraid adapt over come and kick that weight problem in the but for ever

You have done great 120 in a year . Just think it only takes a few months to put that much weight on but a year to take it off. Keep doing what your. Do you look great. As for skin UNLESS you are havering sores (HINT HINT) created by the skin flap your Insurance won't cover skin removed. Again you have done great don't slip backwards

Just to let you know this is life saving surgery. Up till this point of surgery I did not even tell my wife how bad I was and did a great job covering up how I felt. Befor surgery I was type 2 diabetic in need of insulin had high blood pressure,gout,slep-apnea , bad knees bad back ran out of energy fast. Today I'm 201 lb last A1C test I was 6.0 before surgery my A1C was 10.8. I no longer have gout attacks my knees are getting better every day my back has stopped hurting and I have more energy then I know what to do with ask my wife LOL. I have gone from wearing a 48 waist pants to wearing 36 waist pants from a 3 x shirt to a large and it scares the crap out of me to think that I'm 1 cheese burger 1 bag of chips 1 donut 1 soda away from returning to what I once was. I like the way I look and wish I had done this years ago. I have been to the heart doctors and have been given a clean bill of health. My family doctor can't believe the change in me and how much healthier I look and feel. The best part of all now I can play catch with my 12 year old son kick around the soccer ball ride bikes with him at the park. Dads not tired anymore. Below are 2 pictures the one with the shark was taken before surgery at 305 lbs the 2nd picture was taken about a month ago I have lost 12 lbs since that picture was taken. Would I recommend Gastric bypass YES YES YES may be it will save your life to

Your husbands problems were there before surgery. I'm no psychologist but sound like he wasn't happy in his marriage and not self confident with his old body. Now he has a new body and wants a new life to go along with it that does not include you. There is a high rate of divorce for RNY people that's sad because our spouses go though just as much with this surgery as we do. My wife was my rock that held everything together when I was falling apart. I'm sorry to hear your marriage is failing it happen get help for your self don't fall apart it won't help.thing have a tendency to work them selfs out for the best. If he's angry and could become violent it's best to leave him alone. Not all men are like this we are pigs just some us us care more the others. The hard truth you may not think divorce is a option but to save your sanity it may be. Good luck stay safe be health

Six days post-op & having a horrible time getting all my protein.
PaulB replied to KaylaMichelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your doing fine in the beginning it will be hard to get in all your protein. All you can do is try a little bit more every now and then. Have you tried Carnation instant breakfast ( no sugar added) was the best I found. As for applesauce I don't know I was not allowed to have any but somebody on the forum will have that answer for you. I'm 5 months post op and I still have times when it's hard to get in all my protein and calories. Here's something that I learned along the way. What food we used to love does not loves us back after surgery. And what we use to eat a pound of we can now get by on 3 oz. Got any questions just ask somebody on this forum will answer them for you there are a lot of very smart people that are alive and living because of RNY -

and so it officially begins :)
PaulB replied to tlynn4love's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome The thing is when I did my psych appt they didn't ask me anything out of the ordinary. They did want to know if I was ready to lose the weight if I could keep it off if I had any OCD's that would hinder my losing weight and was done over a video conference. Just answer their questions the best you can and don't sweat the small stuff. You will do just fine. The waiting game is the hard part -
Welcome We are all guilty of procrastination. I wish I had done this years ago when my doctor first made reference to it. But I did not listen. Good luck on your journey it's worth all the effort And the worst part is almost over the 2 week pre-op diet called Hell week

HW 305 DOS 7/30/12 290 lbs Today 203 Total so far 87 lbs 23 lbs to Doctors goal of 180 38 lbs to my goal of 165 -
My company saw that for me RNY was not elective but was a life saving surgery. Serval others in the company had the surgery before me so the company understands what the surgery can do for my Heath and will save the company lost time and earnings. Ok not every company is this understanding and everyone has to go at their company the best way you can to get what you need in the end. Makes you kind of wish there was a super star actor that was going though RNY. Only then would people take notice and pay attention because people only care about what's on the Idiot box called TV and who and what the rich and famous are doing. Till then it's our world and we let everyone in

Surgery is in 2 days and I'm feeling super nervous.
PaulB replied to Timmers's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tim we all got go though the what if stage just before surgery. You will be fine you said your doctor is 5 star rated then trust your doctor. If complications come up the doctor will deal with them. As for the rest there is a great chance that your diabetes will be gone and any other obese problems to When I had my surgery I weighed 290 lbs had type 2 diabetes and the doctors wanted me on insulin my A1C was 10.9 I had bad gout acid reflux high blood pressure. To day 5 months later i weigh 204 down 86 lbs my last A1C was 6.0 which means no more diabetes the acid reflux is gone haven't had a gout attack since surgery and my blood pressure is now normal. I had no complications from surgery but going in that day I thought the world was going to end and this was all for nothing. You will be fine we are pulling for your speedy recovery and we are saving you a seat on the losers bench ( that's a good place to be) Good luck keep us posted on your surgery. -
Did you get the butt pad to good luck and don't break anything
-
Well I always say what people don't know won't hurt you. That and I don't care what people say about me I have been fat all my life and growing up fat in school is curl. You learn to turn your back on what people say about you. As for the skin it will shrink back to a point. Put it like this stretch a rubber band to the point it won't stretch any more with out breaking and hold it like that for say 10 years Now let go it may stretch back a bit but you have stretched it to the point it won't go back. Youth is on your side just wait and see. And your arms will shrink to that won't stay fat Good luck on your approval
