Anxiety ahead of surgery...
BBdoodle replied to bloreorbust's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I knew I wanted this surgery and I have had surgeries before so I knew what was expected and what would happen. I think many of the people that feel anxious is because of the fear of not knowing. I was a bit nervous the day of surgery but just knew that I had to do it!!! -
Some questions about communication with surgeon
BBdoodle replied to Halogen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have to contact them... I never wait for any doctor to contact me. I always ask them what do I do next and how soon can I call !!! You can rely on them you need to be in charge of how and what happens. Good luck and stay on top of the doctors !! -
Yeahhhhhhhh !

Call your doc. my sister started out your way with throwing up certain things then it progressed to everything !! She ended up having ulcer which caused the stricture. She was VERY sick but on the mend now. Please call your doctor.

Way to go Kristy !!! Set obtainable goals and don't over do it because your don't want to get injured --- Been there !!! When I wanted to increase distance I would walk 1/2 mile - run 1/2 mile - walk 1/2 mile - run 1/2 mile then I would increase the distance that way then once my body got use to the distance only then did I increase the run distance by a 1/4 mile. I found that for me this was the best to ease into this running thing slowly you will last longer that way. When I was running in the park I would see people start out all crazy only to poop out after a few weeks. I like the slow steady approach (which works for me), you don't want to get burnt out. Keep up the great work. You sound just like me ---- love to run

Its Ok to feel hunger, you just have to know and learn how to handle it. Diet, exercise and portion control.
-
I started out walking too but after a while it was not doing anything so I upped my game !!! You don't need to spend 100's on a good running shoe !!! You can get a good shoe for 60-80 bucks. I love Addias and Sacunoy but you have to go what fits right with your foot, it took me years to settle on a good running shoe. I like a lot of cushion when I run and the Sacunoy has the best (in my opinion). If you are running on a treadmill I use a different shoe because my treadmill has cushion built in. If you are running on the street you will need a shoe that is more shock absorbent because after a while all that pounding takes its toll on your body.

Omg....surgery tomorrow morning, and Im terrified!
BBdoodle replied to vicki s's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Being scared is all normal, and since you have had other procedures you know what the drill is... you are going to be fine. This surgery WILL work !! But you have to put your best foot forward as well, diet and exercise are key to the success Hang in there you will be so happy after I promise. -
4 months post op & The longest stall ever!
BBdoodle replied to LeticiaHuggins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 15 months post op and have completely stopped losing I started out at 216 and got as low as 163. I asked my surgeon at my yearly check up and he said that this is probably where I will stay. I told him I did not reach my goal of 140 which is 23 more lbs. I eat right, exercise daily and I am following all instructions to the letter. He told me to stop focusing on the scale because I did wonderful and I should be happy with what I accomplished. He also said that I was not that large to begin with and had less than 100 lbs to lose and people that are in this weight group sometimes do not reach their goal weight. I frustrated but thankful at the same time, I can't possibly do much more than eat right, exercise !!! I also have thyroid issues where I had it removed and need to take thyroid meds the rest of my life. I hear ya and totally understand where you are coming from -
If you are a beginner to exercise start off slow and try lots of different exercises like walking, swimming, treadmill, cycling, etc. etc. You mentioned you like swimming which is fantastic and you get to use all your muscle groups You need to shop around at different facilities to see which one you feel comfortable at. Maybe interview some personal trainers and get the right one that fits YOUR NEEDS! No one is going to yell at you they will encourage you to do one more but yelling at you I think you see that on TV and if a trainer did yell at you I would immediately tell them that is unacceptable !! Encouragement is welcome but in a positive way. I always tell people to find a exercise that you like then it will not feel like you HAVE to work out, you will look forward to working out. My true love is running, I look forward to running every day, I run 5+ miles a day before work and on the weekends I go outside with my dogs and get them going as well. Just remember take it slow, try different things and find something you enjoy doing Good luck !!!

Egg foo young is LOADED with fat and fried in oil ... most Chinese foods are loaded with fats and oils unless you get the steamed healthy kind. I stay far, far away from Chinese way, way too many calories.

BECOMING AN EATING DISORDER?
BBdoodle replied to tpimpette1's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
As bloreorbust says above PLEASE get yourself to your surgeon ASAP !! Do you at least drink fluids? If you do then maybe start with Insure which will give you some nutrition. What scares me is that you are buying fast food !!! That crap is poison and so so so bad for you, even though you are not eating it, its just a bad habit. I think you need to see a psychologist to get you over this hump. Good luck !! -
WOW..... you are looking fantastic Paul.... keep up the good work !!!!

Diet coke & pre op diet
BBdoodle replied to lisalisalisa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was a diet pepsi addict before surgery, that was the ONLY thing I drank, no coffee, no tea...just DP. I would have 6-8 cans a day. After surgery I did crave it a bit but I got thru it. About 3-4 months post op I took a sip of DP and it tasted horrible... VERY chemically.... so the RNY changed my taste buds big time. Now I have no problem saying no to soda !!!! and glad for it too. I would check with your nutritionist or who ever gave you the diet to follow, see if you can have your DC. I drank my DP up until the night before surgery but I also did not have to do a pre-op diet either. Good luck and you can do it !!! -
I would get the "foamies" if I ate something too big or tried to swallow pills, I am on Armour Thyroid which is a big pill, I had to crush everything in order to get it down. That was for like 3-4 months. Then I was OK, give it time it will pass.......

Revisit your eating plan, set "mini" goals and get back to exercising. Its easy to fall off track, stay focused -- good luck.
-
Cheers !!! All the nervousness, questioning your decision, scared are all normal feelings. You will do fine, stay focused and set obtainable goals as you loose, that helped me stay on track.

Gross.. But need help!
BBdoodle replied to Big Wojo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All normal, as someone posted above which made me laugh "liquid in - liquid out". It all levels off after a while and when you get to semi-solid foods. Right after surgery I was "running" to the bathroom everyday... now I'm pretty regular. -
Good luck and have a speedy recovery !

My smell stayed the same but my taste buds are totally different now. I use to like chicken, beef etc. now I do not eat any of that and I don't miss it either.

When would be a good idea to start the gym in full
BBdoodle replied to amelo's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Check with your surgeon, mine released me to do anything I wanted like 3 wks post op. He said if I did anything that hurt I was to stop but I started jogging and all was good. It all depends on the person and how well you healed. -
What you tell people at work?
BBdoodle replied to ponchik's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told my very close friends at work who supported me 110%. When others ask how I lost the weight I just say diet and exercise.
