Wowzers! Waiting For Surg!
BBdoodle replied to cutiepieme's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
AWESOME !!! -
If you are planning on having your surgery in dec/jan and get your testing done now...alot can happen between now and then. My doctor wanted everything done within a couple of months. I did the sleep study with a thing that I wore on my head at home for two nights then had a follow-up appt., the endoscopy is a one day thing with a report in a week to your dr., blood work is best done a couple of weeks before so you can correct if anything is wrong. I would ask your doctor if he will accept the testing done now and surgery is 6 months away... a lot can happen in 6 months. I would wait and see what he says.

I know you have to have blood work done and pre-admin. hospital testing. Once you pick your date then they work around that. I know surgeons only operate on certain days at certain hospitals etc. I would double check with your insurance because I know some testing is only good for a certain period of time. Example a sleep study test, endoscopy, blood work etc. etc. so don't get testing done too far in advance.

I waited like 3 weeks... but that was me. I would check with your doctor.

I have a desk job, I took the first week off and the 2nd week I went to work in the a.m. and worked from hope in the afternoon. My boss is fantastic and very understanding. It took a good two weeks for me to feel 100%. I was tired the first 3 weeks.

Maybe some people are afraid to ask about your weight loss because maybe they think you are sick with cancer or terminal and don't want to pry? People are funny like that..... I always say to people who have lost weight that they look fantastic but I do not go any further than that. I usually get the extreme... from people saying nothing to people asking way too may questions.

5 Days Out From Surgery
BBdoodle replied to amanda11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should be OK to walk the zoo, if you feel tired then rest. -
AWESOME - Great work, VS has beautiful things... happy shopping

Didn't your doctor give you a list of what you can and cannot eat??? I would say at 3 wks post op you "may" be able to eat salad but I would consult with your doctor first. I was eating pretzels at that poing.

Before my RNY surgery I would take Melatonin and fall asleep right away and sleep the whole night thru. Now AFTER surgery I take a total fo 10mg and it does not effect me at all I also have a hard time falling to sleep I am going to switch to Skull Cap, the only thing with that is it tastes really nasty !!! At least the Melatonin is in pill form but unfortunately it does nothing for me anymore

I use Isopure and not that I like protein shakes I do drink my min. 64 grams of protein a day. I use the Ispopure low carb dutch cholocate. I can tolerate it. The next time I buy I am going to buy the large tub, I think is is 7.5 lbs. I currently purchase the 3 lbs. container which lasts me about 3-4 weeks.

Some people have not a clue as to how much certain things can hurt a overweight person's feelings. Please don't take this situation to heart and move past it, it is not worth your time, think of positive things that the one major step you took to control your weight is a MAJOR step. Some people do not have a clue as to what 1X or 2X is, we of course do. You are on your way...... keep up the good work sweetie

I Don't Know What Do?
BBdoodle replied to Cuba-Libre's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know you have to do what is in your heart but..... with you rushing to your Mom's side right now and delaying your surgery will only cause more stress on everyone. In my opinion and this is only my opionion..... I would talk daily with Mom on the phone and stay close, have your surgery and when the docotor clears you for travel then go and see her. It is a very difficult time for you.. I know what you are going thru, I lost both of my parents to cancer and it is so difficult. You have to keep yourself well so you can be 110% support for them. My prayers are with you and your Mom. -
I don't feel bad... you are not judged, I know in about 1 minute if something is not going down right or I have not chewed it well. When my pouch says "hey...you dummy you did not chew that well enough" I don't even have to stick my finger down my throat it just comes up with a little push/cough from me - its weired. The only advise I can give you and I am still giving my self that advise is to chew-chew-chew-chew. After I have eaten something that I did not chew well enough you would think that the food would come up but it is just tons of sylvia and lots of bubbles.. I call it the foamies !!!

Welcome to the other side !!!! The pain/uncomfortableness gets less each day. Keep up with your pain meds and move around you may be unconfortable from the gas too !! I had terrible shoulder pain. I was OK about 5 days after surgery.
-
I use Vitafusion MultiVites chewables... they are not so bad. I could not tolerate large pills right after surgery so I had to get everything chewable and/or chop up pills. You should be able to return the pills that made you sick - it is worth a try. I have returned vitimans to the store that I bought right after surgery because they were too big and they took them back and gave me a credit. Most retailers will do that even on line.
-
Sounds normal to me.... I did not have a "movement" for like 6 days after surgery and it was GREEN - LOL. The protein does strange things to your movements
-
I like my cottage cheese drizzled with honey and sprinkle chopped walnuts = yummie
-
Its not abnormal... I think it is on all of our minds all the time. Its a good thing that you can think positive and give yourself encouragement to say that you are going to look awesome in the months to come. Before surgery I saw this really cute top in the store, it was a bit pricy but I bought it anyway... its my inspiration to fit in it by the end of the summer. I had my surgery on 4/9 and down 30 lbs so far, my BMI was 37 to start and I have a total of 80 lbs to loose.... 50 more to go -- wooohooo

Protein/food/enough Calories
BBdoodle replied to TinyMamiOf3kids's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been on Isopure Low Carb Dutch Cholocate. I mix it with skim milk, its not my fav. drink but I do drink it. My dr. requires a minimum of 64 grams of protien a day. I eat yogurt and cottage cheese for breakfast, protein shake for a snack between breakfast and lunch. Any other protein is a bonus. I do drink the Special K protein water packets too. I know the shakes are nasty.. I just drink them as quick as I can without getting sick and just be done with it - LOL. Check out the protein flavor packetts you put in water by Specail K I think they are like 5 grms of protein per packett ... the strawberry/kiwi is pretty tasty You really need your protein... you don't want to loose your hair. My hair is thin to begin with so I am real strict on getting my protein in each day. -
Congrats..

Pain..please Explain
BBdoodle replied to So0n2bSliM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Take your pain meds as directed... When I was in the hospital they had me on morphine and then when I went home I was on 2 oxycodones every 4 hours. I took them as instructed, your body will not heal as fast if you are in pain. Once your pain gets too high like on a scale of 1 to 10... if your pain gets to a leverl 8-9- or 10 it is difficult to control at that point and no meds will help. But if you take your meds as instructed your plain will never elevate to a level where you cant control it. My pain was from gas in the shoulder area, it took about 2 wks for all to be OK. -
I was told that having alcohol will get you more buzzed faster that non RYN surgery people. I am 10 wks post op. I had a glass of wine a couple of weeks ago and nothing... My dr. says that you could/will get drunk faster after RNY surgery and to be very careful etc. etc. I have only had wine so far and have not had anything else but in my case and opinion a glass of wine pre op and/or post op is the same so far.........
