First week or two post-op...how much protein did you/are you getting in?
BBdoodle replied to sageandcoyesmommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had no problem getting my 64 gram of protein in a day..... made my protein shake with low fat milk to get that extra boost of protein as well. Sip, sip, sip, sip, sip, sip....... -

BBdoodle replied to RDCLambert's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I live alone but my boyfriend stayed the first night I was out of the hospital, the next day he went to work and I was just fine. I think it all depends on the individual. -

psych Evail tomorrow morning
BBdoodle replied to Tamisa73's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My eval. was a breeze, they want to make sure you are mentally stable and you are doing this for health reasons and need to know that YOU know what is involved and that its just not the surgery but diet, exercise and portion control. -
If I did not chew well, I would get the foamies... it would hurt like crazy and you constantly spit up foam, not my idea of fun. I learned real quick too !

I think there is some way that you can measure your wrist or hip bones to determine whether you are "big boned" or not. Maybe look on the internet.

My surgeon made me sign a contract to quit smoking 2 weeks before surgery. I signed it but I knew I would not quit before surgery, I loved to smoke too !!! My last smoke was like at 10pm the night before surgery. My surgery was 7 am so I had to be at the hospital at 5 am so I just got up, showered and went to the hospital. I have been smoke free for 17 months and feel 1000000% better, plus I don't stink anymore !!!

Feeling excited and scared
BBdoodle replied to butterfly2433@gmail.com's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was so lucky, I was back to work in one week, had minimal pain and my recovery was VERY fast. I did exactly as my surgeon said and it was smooth sailing. I would do it again in a second !!!! -

Endoscopy Nightmare! Help!
BBdoodle replied to LindsJ83's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like you have anxiety for this procedure for sure - can you ask your doctor for a Valium - something to take the edge off. Believe me when I tell you a endoscopy and colonoscopy are normal procedures.... you know nor feel NOTHING. I was freaked out about the colonoscopy I had to have done I went for the endoscopy first and a week later the colonoscopy. I think its the unknown what is frightening you... !!! Here is what happens.... after they prep you (IV, etc) , you get wheeled into the procedure room, there is the anestheologist (sp?), your doctor and assistant. Both doctors speak to you and ask are you feeling ok and then the anestheologist says he is going to put you to sleep, he said "where do you want to go on vacation? I said Hawaii... and the next thing I know I woke and was in recovery! The nurse was asking me how I feel and gave me a snack and something to drink. In a 1/2 I was out and on my way home. They can also give you demarol (SP) which helps you relax too. -
BCBS of Il 6 month or no 6 month?
BBdoodle replied to healthydreams68046's topic in Insurance & Financing
My surgeon kind of worked backwards.... after the consult we scheduled the surgery date, it was two months out. I needed a sleep study, colonoscopy, endoscopy, a nutritional and pysc. eval, and a letter from my general physician, once all of that was in then they submitted. I have a PPO and not a HMO plan. Good luck.. you should do fine !!! -
BCBS of Il 6 month or no 6 month?
BBdoodle replied to healthydreams68046's topic in Insurance & Financing
I have Horizon BC/BS in NJ and I did not have to do any pre-op diet. My weight was 216 and BMI was 36.. my surgeon submitted on a Monday and I was approved on Thursday. They were pretty quick, plus my surgeon knew EXACTLY what the ins. co. needed for approval. It was smooth sailing -
Surgery was yesterday! Liquids question
BBdoodle replied to sageandcoyesmommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I sipped, sipped, sipped all day/evening long. I never had a problem getting my fluids in either. I could not gulp but I did sip a heck of a lot !!! -
Am i eating enough? Surgery in march of 2013
BBdoodle replied to Rena1979's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would check with your nutritionist.... lots of people have stalls including myself but sometimes you have to increase the calories to lose, its that ol' metabolism thing !!! You have to fuel the body just like fueling a car - - no gas you don't go anywhere !!! So think of your body as a car -
It just may be gas, try walking often that helps. If it persists and/or gets worse please call your surgeon ASAP.

New job after weight loss
BBdoodle replied to Amanda R's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I found that when I was heavier the was way too much discrimination but when I am thinner OMG what a difference = sad but true. I was heavy when I applied for my current job 7 years ago so I know I was hired for my skills. But I know and saw shows that heavy people are truly discriminated. -
I would follow your sugeon's instructions on how many ounces for what stage of recovery you are in.

Finally .... wait dropping but I can eat a little more
BBdoodle replied to mrsb12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't do chicken, beef or pork well either... I mainly stick to veggies, cheese, yogurt and fish. -
After surgery you don't even want to look at food... even the smell made me sick !!! Of course that changes along with your tastes, the things I use to love I now hate and cooking a high calorie, high fat meals for other people does not even bother me, I don't even taste. The surgery is a BIG help in curving your appetite !!!!

Find a exercise you like then it won't feel like exercise. I love to run so I run 5 miles daily... I actually look forward to my runs and exercise is a great stress reliever. What ever you choose, start out slow and work your way up, set obtainable goals. I also wear a heart rate monitor to make sure I'm working out in the fat burning mode. This has helped me a lot to make sure I am exerting enough energy and pushing as hard as I can for my age and fitness level. If you have never exercised before I would hire a trainer at first so you get a good grasp of what you should be doing and how to do it properly. Good luck !!

OMG I had foamies when I first had surgery, they lasted for about 5-6 months then finally went away. I "think" I got my foamies from not chewing enough. I would know the second it went down that I would be sick with the foamies. It was so uncomfortable and they would last anywhere from 1 hour to once I had constant foamies for like 12 hours straight. It knocked the heck out of me !!!!
