Your doctor should be guiding you on what he/she wants you to be eating and what suppliments they want you to take. My dr. requires a minimum of 64 grams of protien daily and min. 64 oz. water. I get in about 80 grams of protein, 65 gr. from a protein shake and the remainder from cottage cheese and yogurt, chicken, beans etc. If you do not get enough protein you will loose hair !! That was enough to keep me focused on my protein.

I think it all depends on your insurance whether they accept this forum/group. I would call your insurance company and ask.

You can do that with bologna too !!! I love it

I think it all depends on how far post op your are. I am almost 5 months post op and I had my first sandwich this past week. Lettuce and tomato sandwich with toasted whole wheat - boy was that good The schedule my doctor has me on is that when you are about 8 wks. post op you can start trying regular food but you must CHEW, CHEW, CHEW, CHEW !!!

From what I unders stand you will level off after a while and since you are 16 months post op that may be it. As Luflife said above... what are you eating.... are you exercising? Talk to your doctor my suggestion is to watch what you are eating and add more exercise. -
My sister had RNY 18 months ago, she went way too far with the weight loss and looks sick. She is 50+ and her skin is hanging which makes her even look worse. I told her she would looke better with about 15-20 lbs back on. I don't want to look lilke a skeleton... I want to look healthy and what feels good and looks good on me.

Did You Come Home With Anything Attached?

I had a drain while I was in the hospital for 2 1/2 days. The doctor took the drain out after the 2nd day. I think it all depends on the doctor and his beliefs. You have a good question to ask your doctor and do not hesitate to your anything, you need to be very informed before you have this surgery...the more knowledge the better !!!! -
My doctor has his patients do 3-4 days liquid only then 2 wks "soft" (yogurt, soup, etc) the 2 wks semi-soft (tuna, wet chicken etc) then slowly on to regular food with trying one new food per day.

I think everyone has their own form of dumping and how your own body reacts to such things. When I don't chew-chew-chew and swallow big pieces I immediately know that within about 2 minutes I will start to get the "foamies" it is a constant flow of real foamy syliva coming up from my stomach - I feel real sick all over and it lasts from 15 minutes to 12 hours. Its not fun !!!! I think this is my body's form of dumping. But that was only related to chewing. I have had some M&M's, butter, pepperoni, and nothing has happened.... of course it was like 4 m&m's, a teaspoon full of butter and a piece of pepperoni - all the bad stuff was just a taste, I am sure if I ate a bag of M&M or a stick of butter I would be sick - LOL. and I am not going to try it either
-
Go for it - get rid of them you don't need them anymore !!!!
-
No, just a co-pay and I had to pay out of pocket for phsyc. eval. $250. that was the only thing I had to pay.
-
Cheers !!!!

WOW - you had it really bad, did your doctor/hospital do pre-admission testing before you went in the hospital? or do you think you got sick from something in the hospital?? I'm glat you are feeling better and you can look forward to the benefits of this surgery.

Hang in there Stacey, I was my grandmothers care taker after my Mom passed. My grandmother was 95, lived alone and was mowing her lawn about 6 months before she passed. She was doing great (she lived 2 blocks away from me so I was constantly at her house) until she started having little strokes, then I had to put her in a nursing home - which broke my heart. Every night I would go there on my way home from work to feed her, she lost the use of her arms after one bad stroke. she could not communicate (verbal) and her hearing was really bad. I would sit with her and we would hold hands after dinner, I would wheel her around in the wheel chair, I cherished those last days with her - she was my rock and inspiration. Hang in there, I know its tough on you but she does not want to be there either. Make her happy with your visits - you will not regret it, do the best you can and enjoy her now

I had surgery 4/9/2012, I was terriried that my hair would fall out. My doctor's office could not stress enough that if you get your protein minimum 64 grams/day you will not loose your hair. I make sure that I get about 80 grams of protein a day buy drinking 64 grms in a protein shake, cottage cheese and yogurt. I have not noticed any hair loss what so ever. I also take the Botin as my doctors suggested. Please up your protein and start taking Biotin it will help.

I had wine about 3 months post op, I had a glass at home just to gauge how I will handle alochol. I did not even the a buzz !!! I was told by my doctors office in one of the classes that when you drink you can get extremely buzzed after RNY so be very careful. In my case the wine is the same as it was pre-op. I have not tried any other alcohol yet... maybe I will try a vodka and see if that has any different affects on me. But wine i was OK with.

Almost 4 Months Post Op And 80 Pounds Later!
BBdoodle replied to HamDan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow... that is crazy !!! You will have two heathly babies - just do what your ob/gyn and bypass doctor tells you to do. Even if you gain weight you will loose it after the babies plus it will just be baby weight anyway - Please keep us posted and you must post pic of the little ones -
My doctor wanted me to quit 2 weeks prior to surgery, they even made you sign a contract. I signed it but I did not quit - shhhhh don't tell anyone My last smoke was the night before surgery, there was no way I could quit before surgery, I was too nervous, excited etc. etc. But I made a promise to myself that there would be NO SMOKING after surgery. I am almost 5 months post op, I do miss it at times, I can be in the company of smokers and it does not bother me... actually I think everyone stinks - LOL. I have been a on and off smoker for years, the first time I quit I was smoking 2 1/2 packs a day, I had to have my thyroid removed, I was going to be in the hospital for a week so I decided to quit. I did fantastic and did not smoke for 8 yrs. then went back to it after a very stressful move, I smoked for a few years then quit again, then started again and this time is for ever - smokes are $9.00 a pack here, I can spend that money on new clothes I also ran a mile this morning with no issues what so ever = yah me. I also ran when I smoked, how I do not know how I did it but I did !! My running is much better that I don't smoke. I also found out that when I had my endoscopy done that I have pre-cancer cells in my stomach which is due to smoking... the cells can reverse themselves if I quit = I QUIT and will not go back - ever !!!! I want to live.

Almost 4 Months Post Op And 80 Pounds Later!
BBdoodle replied to HamDan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow.. you are beautiful and look amazing. When are you do? My docotors office told all the women that are of child bearing years that they could not get pregnant for 18 months after surgery, I guess because your may not be able to get enough nutrition. Keep up the good work -
I love salads ... but I am almost 5 months post op and for some reason they scare me. I started eating a very small salad w/tuna about 3 months post op. It did not feel right going down so I kind of stopped eating them. PaulB does have a point.... I want to eat my protein FIRST... Hopefully I will be able to like salads again but for now I have been staying away from them.

Food To Try - Moo Shoo
BBdoodle replied to kiwiladydee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Be careful with Chinese = most dishes are very fattening and cooded with tons of oil. Stick to the steamed veggies and meats.
