100 Pounds...since The Beginning Of My Journey.
BBdoodle replied to ~Christi~'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOW - Fantastic -
I am not fond of the protein either, I make one shake with 64 grams of protein, I down that within a half hour as my 10:30 am snack then I get in another 20 grams from cottage cheese and yogurt. My doctor wants a MINIMUM of 64 grams daily, it is a must !!! I tried the protein shots and they are discusting - really discusting so I switched back to the power and mix it with 2% milk. I don't put as much milk as the directions require so the shake is a little thick but I get thru it ;{

No Weight Loss! At A Loss!
BBdoodle replied to dunnfab5's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was at a stand still a few weeks ago, I was doing moderate walking almost every day. My weight stood still for like 3 wks. once I got off the high blood pressure meds I had so much more energy and I started increasing the exercise AND the intensity of my workouts, I started jogging again and now my weight started dropping again. Sounds like you are in a rut, when you exercise do you get your heart rate pumping ? -
The waiting is tourture but it will all be worth it in the end

I Feel Like I Can Eat The World Some Days.
BBdoodle replied to Jbaz777's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The way my doctor guides you is that you should be eating 3 square meals a day. You are to be eating enough to keep you full to the next meal. This is so you don't over eat and stay away from the snacking. If I feel hungry I have a few crackers and the hunger goes away. I also drink my 64 oz. of protein at 10:30 as a snack and I am stuffed until like 1 pm. You need to get your protein in on a daily basis IT IS A MUST... plus if you don't get your protein in you will loose hair and you don't want that to happen. You should contact your doctor and/or nutritionist and have them give you some guidelines. When I was two weeks out I could not even think of food !!! -
Each doctor is different in what the require and your age will be a factor as well. The older you are the more tests they want done. I had to get a colonoscopy as well as a endoscopy, sleep apnea, and psych. eval. My doctor also made sure that I had my yearly gyno. check up and mamo as well. They really want to make sure you are in perfect health before surgery so there are no complications.

I did not have to pay anything before surgery. I received a bill from the hospital for $250 which was my co=pay for the hospital stay. That arrived about a month after surgery.

Good luck -

Sounds like you are doing great... just do as your doctor says and you should be fine. I ran into some problems because I was not chewing my food properly. Once I started chewing each bite like a million times I was OK.. You will come across foods that you cannot tolerate when you start eating regular food etc. We live and learn what we can and can't do. Keep up the great work

Mami - you will love them... they are sweet/smoky tasting OMG they are so good. 100% toasted whole grain, 140 calories per 14 crackers, 5 grams fat.

Wow... how awesome to go thru this with your hubby - you are very lucky. My sister had RNY surgery first and then I had it about 10 months after her, she inspired me to get it done. I never ever knew that insurance paid for this or I would have had it done years ago !!! My sister and I constantly discuss our surgery and what we can and cant eat - it is nice having someone you love right next to you going thru the same thing Good luck and welcome !
-
I also eat wheat Thins "smoky BBQ = yummie of course all in moderation !
-
Snyder's and they also have Braided twists in honey wheat that are awesome too !!! Just make sure you chew-chew-chew and chew some more

Insurance Companies... Oh What Fun!
BBdoodle replied to L Belle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Getting my general physican's letter was the most difficult when I got my clearance. My RNY doctor provided a formatted letter where all your personal doctor had to do was copy it to his letter head and sign. My personal physican was all ok with it but it was getting his staff to get his signature etc. etc. it was all the office red tape that was the pain in the but. The letter was written in a way that gave the insurance company exactly what the ask for etc. etc. -
Are you seeing a gastrointerologist (sp?) I had a really bad gall bladder attack about 7 wks RNY post op and 3 wks after that I was back under the knife getting my gall bladder removed. My RNY surgeon did the surgery so he had all my history and went in the same incisions as the RYN to keep the scars to a minimum. I did not feel any nausea just really bad pain... like I was having a heart attack = really scary. I never heard of sludge in the GB thou !!!

Still Taking Chewables At 4 Months Out?
BBdoodle replied to purpleamy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on chewable calcium and mutliple vitimans, I could not handle the larger pills when I first had surgery. As a matter of fact I had to crush all my pills at first.. I just find the chewabls easier, I hate having to swallow pills all day long. The calcium pills are so big they are like a snack BTW... I am 5 months post op -
I like to crunch too, I was about 3-4 weeks post op and bought the multi-grain pretzels, of course I would chew them like crazy. They were very satisfying.
-
I hear ya loud and clear - LOL no pun intended !!! I am the same way, I believe it is the protein. I really hate to admit this but OMG... I was in my car at 8 pm last night, when I got in this morning @ 8 am it still stunk inside - LOL is that horrible or what. I am 5 months post op and have accepted this until I level off and start eating normal and not on protein. I really don't think there is much to stop this... but not sure. I hear some people have tried Bean-o and it has worked. I drink my protein shake at 10:30 am every day and my gas slams me in the evening around 8-9pm arrrgggghhhhh !!

What Is Protein Doing For My Body
BBdoodle replied to cmarie317's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are only two weeks out... give your body some time to first of all heal, then you will be cleared for exercise at which time it will start to melt off. Losing a pound a day is pretty good in my book. -
Awesome.... its amazing that tha one word can make someone's day It feels great when someone says good things like that... it even motivates me even more !!!
