    How Did You Decide?

I chose the RNY because you get the best bang for your buck. You lose the most weight with RNY and if you follow what your doctor has planned... meals, fluids, Protein, vitimas you will not have a problem. I am almost 6 months post op, I get a full blood panel every 3 months and I have no issues what so ever. My surgery was easy, recovery was fast, I was back to work in 1 week and I am back to my jogging as well. I follow what my doctor instructs me to do and I have no problems or issues. From what I understand you loose the most weight with RNY, 2 nd is the sleeve and the least amount with the band.

    What To Expect...

It all depends on the person and your frame of mind. I am the worlds biggest baby and cannot stand pain what so ever. I have had numerous surgeries before so I knew what to expect as far as surgery. The pain was not all that bad, I was on a morphine pump for two days. On a scale of 1-10 the pain was 6 or 7 the first day. I was more uncomfortable than in pain. Of course when you use your stomach muscels to sit up they hurt but to just lay there I was OK. I walked a real lot during the 2nd day to eliminate the gas which helped a lot. I had a drain which the doctor removed before I went home. Basically for me it was not so bad, a lot less pain than I thought. I had surgery on a Monday (4/9) and was back to work the following Monday but worked 1/2 day in the office and 1/2 at home for a week, then by the beginning of the 3rd week I was in work full time. My sister was out of work the 6 weeks allowed by dissability. Each person is different and can tolerate pain differently. I was one of the lucky ones where surgery went well, recovery was fast and easy and no complications. My friends and family are treating me fantastic, everyone is very supportive

    Protein And Water

Don't make yourself crazy trying to get everything in... as most said above, do your protein first and sip, sip, sip, sip every waking hour. That was the only way I could get it all in... my doctor's office said that you have to work up to the 64 oz. and 64 grams of protein in the beginning. I had a hard time with the water as well. I would say about a month out I was finally getting both 64/64 in but it took all my waking hours thou.
  4. Oh yeah ! What made me realize how big I was when I would look at pictures of me with a person that was of averge weight. When you look at yourself in the mirror you really have nothing to compare yourself with but when you take a photo with someone who is average then you are like OMG I'm huge !!!!

    First Meal

Congrats !!! I remember being afraid to eat anything that was not soft like yogurt, creamy soups, etc.etc. I was not chewing my food enough and got really, really, sick a few times. When trying new foods CHEW, CHEW, CHEW, CHEW and CHEW some more.

    Cpap

I never had a cpap but there are quite a few nights where my sleep is totally not there. I get up at 4:30a.m. for work, I workout a hour before work on my treadmill or eliptical etc., when I get home after work I walk my dogs for a hour so I am getting enough exercise to sleep for a week straight - LOL. When I finally sit down around 7 -8 pm. I fall asleep for about a hour or two and that messes me up once I wake then it is very difficult to get back to sleep. I am usually up from about 1:30 to 3:30 most nights. Do you exercise at all? I know when I was doing yoga I would sleep like a baby every night. I think I am going to start the yoga again on Wii. It sounds like the cpap is making you uncomforatable !!!

    Pickles!

I had my first pickel about 2 months post op. I chewed, chewed, chewed them really well. I love pickels and they are very low in fat and calories and a good snack.

    Potato Chips

I was a chip lover before surgery, I had my first chip about 2 months post op, I think I had 2 chips. I do stay away from them but have a couple every now and then. When I want to have a little snack I usually have crackers or pretzels.

    Diarrhea?

I am 5+ months post op and also had my gallbladder remove 10 wks after rny surgery. Ever since then I have had daily diarrhea, my doctor has even given me pills to stop it, the work at times then at times they don't work. I think its from the bile just going into the intestines now.

    Stall

I do not maintain a food log but follow the plan of what I should and should not be eating that my doctor provided. My surgery weight was 214 I am 174 (BMI 36) now but at 5+months post op I feel I should have lost more. I am also hypothyroid, I had a thyroidectomy about 20 years ago and not sure whether the thyroid meds have anything to do with it. I love jogging and mix up my exercise on a daily basis. I also have two high energy dogs that keep me very active and we are always getting exercise together. I do admit I am a daily scale person. My clothes have been feeling loser but the numbers on the scale have not moved but for a few lbs. I know as long as I stick with the plan and stay active it will start to move again.. it just gets depressing at times any suggestions????

    Sports Bra

I like the Champion sports bra. I am far from big and don't have much to support (B cup) It took a long time and $$ to finally find the right bra. You don't want it get one that is too small then it will be uncomfortable... you want it to fit properly. I have a zip up one that is pretty nice, it zips up in the front. There are lots of website on line that specialize in extra support bras. I am the same way with my sneakers... it is a MUST to have cusion and proper fitting running shoes.

    How Is Fat Removed

Your body uses up energy/fat/caloried just by breathing, heart beat, temperature regulation, etc. There is a formula that you can figure out how many calories you body needs just to stay alive without doing any exercise etc. The formula is on the internet.

    12 Hour Shifts

I am not a nurse or work 12 hour shifts but have some surggestions. I always carry the bottle of water with me no matter where I go and sip, sip, sip, sip. I know I have to drink 4 a day to get my 64 oz. of water. The protein I either have that as a mid morning snack or I have it as breakfast. I don't put lots of milk, I only use about a cup full, it makes the shake thick but it is less to drink. I can usually get in down in about a 1/2 hour. I find driving in my car I can get my fluids in much easier.

    Hospital Stay

I went in at 6 a.m. Monday and was home by 3 pm on Wednesday
  20. I have always loved walking/jogging (when I was thinner). When In the hospital I was doing laps around the entire floor of the hospital. My dr. cleared me to do any exercise I wanted after 3 wks. It took me about 4 months to start jogging again. I first started out slow and increased my distance and intensity a little at a time. I always say find a exercise you like and it will not feel like you have to get up an exercise you will want to do it because you enjoy it. Plus you will feel more energized, I know I do !!!

    Worried

It is very important to get your protein in, plus you don't want to start losing your hair. As PaulB said above talk to your nutritionist they will be able to suggest other sorces of protein. Maybe try a different flavor of the powder, I know the shakes are not the best but I just drink mine as quick as I can and get it over and done with. I eat cottage cheese and yogurt which are both high in protein as well. My dr. says minimum 64 grams of protein a day... I do my best to get 80 grams a day.

    Protein!

    Really?!?!

I'm 5 months post op and have only lost 40 lbs. I follow my diet exactly as my doctor has planned, I exercise 1+ hours a day by walking and jogging and I am at a stand-still right now. I thought it would be way more that 40 lbs by now !!!
