How much do you really need?

Be careful on stocking up on things... you taste may change, things you love before surgery you may hate after. I know my taste changed big time! I would be enough for a week, then you can see what you can tolerate. I bought lots of jello and never touched the stuff after surgery, I am 17 months post op and the boxes are still in my cabinet !!! The protein shakes get pretty nasty after a while too so try a small container first and if you like it then buy the larger. I wasted so much money on buying things then not liking them or your taste changes.... good luck

    Sad day

It is such a difficult time, please have strength in knowing you are not letting her suffer anymore. Did you ever read the "Dog's Prayer"? I cannot read it without crying. That prayer gives me strength when its time to put a family member down. Hold her memories in your heart !!!

    Diet soda....

I was a diet pepsi person before surgery, 6-8 cans a day, I love carbonation too. After surgery I did not have any until about 6 months post op, I would sip a soda every once in a while.
  4. I wish I could lose about 20 more lbs but I am 17 months post op and my body has evened itself off and seems to be happy at 163. I would take 150 too !!! But my surgeon said don't focus on the number focus on how you feel. I eat correctly, run 5 miles daily, and feel wonderful. So I am accepting this ... my start weight was 216. Everyone is different and will lose differently as well..... my sister's start weight was 240ish and she got way too low.. she had a ulcer and stricture. Her weight dropped way down because she could not eat, now that the ulcer is gone and stricture cleared she is eating but she is still under weight and needs to gain about 25 lbs., she got as low as 108 which is scary !!!!

    Good workout routine for weightloss?

If you are going to a gym, you may want to speak to a trainer who would set you on the right track of what to do and for how long. For me... I love to run and constantly challenge myself to meet new goals. My next new goal is to run a 9 minute mile.

    Four months post-op

They should of removed your GB while they were in there !!! I had my RNY in April 2012 and about 4 wks. post op I had a really bad GB attack, I called my RNY surgeon and he sent me for a ultrasound. The stones were there prior to surgery because there were so many and they were pretty big. So 10 wks RNY post op I was under the knife for GB surgery. I know lots of surgeons do both at the same time !!!!

    Apprehensive About the Surgery

RNY surgery helps you so much but you have to be committed 100% as well. I love to cook and entertain as well but after surgery I was cooking etc. and it did not effect me in any what so ever. I would taste my food and by the time I was done cooking and tasting (a sip of this or a tiny taste of that) I was full !!! LOL . You are going to do just fine... right after surgery I was able to cook and had no desire to eat what I cooled.. now that was awesome !!!!

    Reaching out

All your emotions are totally normal, we all go thru them !!!! Do your research on your doctors if you can and make sure you are comfortable and you like your surgeon because he is going to be your best bud for a while Good Luck !
  11. It takes a while for your body to adjust plus you are still healing. Everyone loses at their own pace, follow your surgeons directions and you will do fine. I am a slow loser but what gets me going is exercise and my hear rate up to where I am sweating and really working out.

    Smoking

I quit smoking the night before surgery, when I had my endoscopy done there were pre-cancer cells in my stomach !!! It totally freaked me out because there was nothing that could be done. The doctor said that those cancer cells could be reversed if I quit because they were most likely from smoking !!! I quit and never went back... I enjoyed smoking very much. But I love myself more than the smokes.. its been 17 months since I had my last smoke. I truly miss it at time when I am around someone that is smoking but I feel 10000% better AND I can breathe, also I can run 5 miles

fluid in lungs 10 days post op

This is not normal... I would go to a lung specialist (pulmanologist sp?)

    Sept 16th bypasser

Veesoulx3... keep on trying to get your protein and water in no matter what. Sip, sip, sip, sip, sip all day/nite. It is VERY important at this point to get your water in first and protein in 2nd. I know its hard but each day you will be able to do a little more. Hang in there

    Concered

    I would call your surgeon...

    The thing I "never was"...

This surgery is only a tool to help you lose, for me I had to get to the root of the problem and yes that was admitting I was addicted to food too and ate because I was bored as well. So with surgery, admitting my food addiction and changing bad habits you can be a success. I feel if you don't get to the root of the problem surgery is just a band-aid and you will regain eventually.

If it's not one thing it's another!

Can you look for another surgeon? We all have to realize that they are human too and have families, kids, etc. etc. as well. I would not let that stand in my way. You lost a good deal of weight already and I totally understand the struggle you will have over the next couple of months to keep it off. Please ..... go on line and look for another surgeon, don't let all your hard work go to waste !! Your current surgeon should have offered some alternatives in my opinion. Hang in there sweetie you can do it !!! BTW.. when I get real stressed I work out, its a great stress reliever -- go for a walk

    What surprised you?

What surprised me was how quickly I bounced back.... I had surgery on a monday was home late wednesday afternoon and back to work that Monday. I worked 1/2 days in the office and 1/2 days at home for one week and then the following week back to regular full time in the office days. The pain was not that bad and that is coming from someone who cannot stand one bit of pain I had to learn to chew !!! I got the foamies often because I was not chewing enough but I learned quickly. I was VERY fortunate to not have any complications and healed quite quickly.

    The look

I would LOVE to tell people that RNY surgery is paid for by most insurance companies. I work in the medical field and had no idea my ins. paid until my sister had the surgery and we both have the same ins. company. Once I heard that I immediately made a appointment. There are quite a few people at work I would love to tell but I don't want to hurt their feelings in any way. I know when I was overweight I felt awful about myself and I am sure others do as well, not every overweight person but the majority probably do.

pain in stomach through to back

My surgeon had me on liquid diet for like two weeks then a mush diet for another two weeks. Maybe the solid food 11 days post op was way too much for your stomach to handle at this point.

    Fast Food

I do not eat fast food but if I had no other choice I would go for the salads, or grilled chicken etc. etc. The FF places are offering more healthy choices now.
  22. Each day gets better and better, continue to take pain meds, rest and walk, walk, walk to eliminate the gas

    Stomach Problems

Letting it sit for two days should not be a problem as long as it was refrigerated and you thawed it out in the fridge and not on the counter. I'm glad called your surgeon. Usually if I ate something bad it goes in and comes out right away and once its out I am OK. You may have the the stomach bug that is going around ! Feel better soon !
  24. I had the same pain... turned out to be my gallbladder, I had to go back under the knife 8 wks after RNY to have the GB removed. Call you surgeon right away... you don't want another attack. The stones can get caught in a duct and that is MAJOR surgery to remove.
