Need Advise For Athletes
BBdoodle replied to music1618's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is VERY important to get your daily protein in expecially since you are 4 months post op. I am 6 months post op and I get a minimum of 64 grams of protein daily no matter what. My total for the day is probably between 80-90 grams. It is soooooo important ... your body cannot move unless it has fuel.. kind of just like a car..if you don't feed a car gas it does not go...same with our bodies !!! -
Sounds like nerve or ciatica nerve (sp?).

I would od it again in a second, this surgery tool really helps you contain your over eating and gives you a good boost of immediate weight loss to be positive and stick with it, you have no choice. Many times in the past my diets failed because I did not stick with it or I did not see results as fast as I wanted. So with RNY, you see results real quick which helps for you to stay focused.

Not A Single Pound Lost
BBdoodle replied to dadsangel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't feel bad.... I'm almost six months post op and have lost only 41 lbs. I keep on telling myself that it is better to loose slowly rather than fast but I am in a stall right now. My clothes are getting looser but the scale is not moving. I am dissapointed but still hanging in there hopefully I will start to loose again with my increased workout schedule and intensity. -
I live alone too, I stocked up on ice pops, yogurt, jello, soups and lots and lots of water. I buy what ever water is on sale that week in the 16 oz. bottles and just make sure I drink 4 a day to get my minimum of 64 oz. of water daily.

Starving! Am I The Only One Always Hungry?
BBdoodle replied to sbsmith's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are going thru food withdrawls - LOL. I was not hungry at all for a few months after surgery. Your body is adjusting.. just follow the plan your doctor has for you and you will do fine. 19 is AWESOME -
The first couple of days was really bad, I was on morphine pump. When I went home on day #3 I was OK with the pain and it really was not pain but uncomfortable. And you are soooo right... major sit-up sorness - LOL... you nailed it on that one 10 wks after RNY surgery I had to have my gallbladder removed and that was worse than the RNY - go figure.

Oh yeah... it slows... totally normal. I will be 6 months post op (4/9) on 10/9 and I am at a stand still for a month already. I did lose a pound last week - woohoo. I have increased to jogging instead of walking and hopefully the intensity will get things going again. I really thought I would be down more that 41 lbs. after 6 months.... so depressing. I have a total of 80 to loose so hope for the next six months I will loose the other 40 and I will be happy I just thought that it would be more !!!! Mine started to taper off like yours too.

Protein Powder And Yogurt?
BBdoodle replied to eeyoregirl1970's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
You could probably mix the protein in what ever you want, it will change the textrue of food etc. I like to get it all over and done with ASAP. I get my min. 64 grams in in one shake, I mix dutch cholocate with water and drink that for a snack at 10 - 10:30 every single day. I'm not a big fan of the protein but I make sure I have it daily though !!! I think what ever works best for you and your taste buds would be fine ! -
Something does not sound right... I have thrown up but it was because what I ate was just not sitting right but that has only happened a few times. If you are following your doctor's orders then something is wrong... please make a appt. to see him... it does sound like stricture.

8 Days Preop! Packing List?
BBdoodle replied to destineex33's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was in the hopsital 3 days, I wore the clothes home that I went to the hospital in which were very loose sweat pants and top. I wore the hospital gowns they provided, the hopsital provided tooth brush, tooth paste etc. The only thing I brought was my cell phone and charger. You really don't feel like doing much except for walk and I just watched TV. The second I hit the morphine button i would be out for a while. The pain meds will make you sleep Oh... and chapstick is a must !!! Good luck -
Food Not Getting Stuck So Much 6.5 Weeks Post Op.
BBdoodle replied to amyjo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LOL, No you don't crazy... we all have to do what works us, not everyone is the same Just be careful because if you go too fast with introducting food you will get sick I guarantee it !!! My problem the first 3-4 months was I had to learn how to chew my food, I would not chew properly and the second I swollowed I knew it was not right and I would be sick for hours. I would get the "foamies" where I would spit up real foamy syliva and it was painful too. That was my body's way of saying "hey you jerk CHEW your darn food !!! Then it would not happen for a while and I would forget to chew my food like a million time and bam it would happen again. Aside from that I felt awesome about 2 wks post op but I followed my dr.'s schedule of liqids, soft, semi-soft and then regular food. It sounds like you are doing really well - keep up the good work ! -
I think the 10 pgs. is way too much information. Stick to the facts, list diets you have been on steady weight gain, list all the medical conditions you have from the excess weight. The only letter I had to provide was one that my suregon suggested my primary doctor write. The letter was a draft of what my primary should say. The draft letter was what the insurance companies want to hear and is what I listed above. Insurance companies only want what effects you medicaly.

What Makes People Gain Weight Back?
BBdoodle replied to cjoyce's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I believe the people that gain the weight back after surgery do not follow the plan long term. Surgery is a tool not a magic cure. YOU have to work WITH the surgery, healthy eating, exercise etc. etc. Once you stop eating the healty food in normal quantities and stop exercising the weight will come back sooner or later !!! -
I am 53 and never had a weight problem until my thyroid went crazy in my 30's, I had it removed and battled weight ever since. I had my thyroidectomy 20 years ago. I would of had RNY surgery years ago if I knew insurance paid !!!! I had lost 100+ lbs on my own with diet and exercise in my late 30's and gained most of it back in a couple of years. Then as I got older it is more difficult to exercise like I use to (jogging/running). The weight was coming back on AGAIN, I found out that insurance pays and that I was probably a candidate for surgery so I booked class with my surgeons office and after class I booked the first consult and it is histroy from there. I was worried that I was not going to get approved because I was right on the borderline with a BMI of 37, my blood pressure was slowly going up and my cholestrol was 214 but I was approved. Now my BP is normal, cholestrol is 157 !!!!! I have lost a total of 41 lbs which I thought would be more at 6 months post op, my weight before surgery was 214. I know for people that have less than 100 lbs to loose take longer but I am really following my diet and have started jogging again which I totally love now that the extra pounds are off. I definately hit a slump, hopefully the lbs will start coming off again now that I am jogging again. I have never felt better in my whole life and this surgery was the best thing I ever did, recovery was a breeze. I highly recommend this to anyone at any age !!! I too was a yo-yo dieter, I would loose then slowly gain it all back, loose again etc. etc. etc. At least this way it is more permanent... I was tired if fighting with my weight all the time. RNY is the way to go... you get the best bang for your buck because you loose the most over the band and sleeve.

I had a drain in for 2 days while I was in the hospital. It hurt like hell when he pulled it out but only for a second !!! But I am a big baby and have NO tolerance for pain !!!

Not Losing Weight :(
BBdoodle replied to jeanetteramirez2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't feel bad... I will be 6 months post op on 10/9 and I am only down 41 lbs. the past month the weight has really slowed. I increased my walking to jogging, increased my intensity and working out a 1/2 longer.... God I hope that helps. I am in such a slump but I will NOT get discouraged !!!! -
FANTASTIC !!! Is that not the best feeling ever !!!!!

You need to work up to the protein, my doctor wanted my to get minimum 64 grams/day. I did not have a problem drinking the protein... it took hours but I did do it. I was also instructed to get 64 oz. of water a day.... Some people need to work up to those numbers - good luck and sip, sip, sip,sip
