The day before my surgery I had to eat light and at 6 pm I had to take the magensium citrate (2 bottles) and nothing to eat after 6 pm. I was nice and cleaned out for surgery in the a.m. I would contact your doctors office, or re-read your instructions if they gave you any.

I would bring your own lunch. My 2nd day back to work we had a baby shower for one of my friends, only a few people knew I had surgery. I was one week post op and was still on liquid diet, it was so difficult to smell all this amazing home cooked food but I did not have on crumb of food and no one really even noticed. I thought for sure that someone would say "why are you not eating" but no one did. If you co-workers do not know you had surgery I would just say that there was nothing healthy on the menu so you brought your own. If you co-workers know you had surgery then I would tell them the same answer as above - LOL. Good luck !!!

I have had pizza, I am 6 months post op, I can only eat like a half slice and as long as its not loaded with toppings or grease I'm OK. I don't like beer but I have a glass of wine a few nights a week. Down the road you will be able to eat most things as long as it is in moderation and you don't eat a whole pizza pie nightly.

All those crazy emotions right before surgery are totally normal. Please don't feel guilty, you are doing this to get healthy and be a better Mom to your kids.. why feel guilty about improving your health, you should be proud of yourself !!!! It take a lot to go thru this surgery no matter what your reasoning is. I commend you for doing it and for taking the path to a healthier you - good luck tomorrow

Pain 4 Days Post Op
BBdoodle replied to st.ephanie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The pain is all normal... It killed me to get up from a lying down position. I kept moving as much as possible, it hurt for about a week post op to get up. Each day is a little less. Hang in there !!! -

A Different "butt" Issue
BBdoodle replied to Ellie_Grace's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are losing all your padding which is a good thing. I once fell down cement steps and landed on my tail bone, it hurt like hell. When I had to sit at my desk I used a tube, it helped a lot. If you can get something with a hole in it you will not have that direct pressure. -
After surgery I went out and bought a expensive top and that was my inspiration to get into it by the end of summer and I did !!! Keep that dress out where you can see it every day. Its nice to have something to look forward to... it keeps you on track

Check with your doctor/nutritionist. I do not count calories I count grams of protein and I always do protein first. Watch your portion size. -
Gross, But I Need Help
BBdoodle replied to Kerri1503's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are doing fine and having a BM early is good. I did not have one for 6 days after surgery. But you have to remember you are not eating so since nothing is going in then nothing will be coming out. Before surgery I had to clean out my bowels with a laxative and my first BM was hard and difficult. Then after a couple weeks I started going daily. You will notice a change since the food you are putting in is way different that what you are use to eating. -
I would not worry about it... 1/2 piece of chicken is not going to do any harm !!
-
LOL... I'm average height 5' 5" and I most definately loose a shoe size from 9 to a 8 and my rings, braclets even watch are bigger !!!
-
Good luck and please post on how you are feeling after surgery.... you will do just fine

Having A Hard Time Getting Food In
BBdoodle replied to bekki03's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh Becky... it will all get easier... I promise. If you think something is wrong do not hesitate to call your doctor that is what they are getting paid for. I am a morning person and have tons of energy when I first get up so I do my major workout (tread mill jog) in the a.m. of course that requires me to get up a hour earlier before work but I don't mind. My evening exercise (weather permitting) is a speed walk with my dogs. If I don't get the evening workout in no big deal because I already did my major workout !! You just have to pick a exercise that you like and do it !!! Exercise actually gives your more energy and gets those endorfins (natural high) going !! The Protein is a MUST !!! don't try to get it all in at once, that comes down the road. Maybe split half in the a.m. and half in the p.m. Try different foods to see if you can keep that down. And please chew, chew, chew and chew some more !!! -
The time will pass soon enough

From what my surgeons office educates you on is that the RNY is the best bang for your buck so to speak. You loose the most on RNY, 2nd is the sleeve and 3rd is the band. I figured that if I was going to have any type of surgeryit was going to be the one that will allow me to loose the most weight. I read that the band could slip, cause complications etc. and the sleeve you do not loose as much with either surgery vs. the RNY. So I chose the RNY....not that you cannot run into problems with the RNY but if you follow your dr's orders you will have no problems. I and 10000% glad I chose the RNY, I sailed thur surgery and recovery with no problems.

Gastric Bypass Surgery Oct 2
BBdoodle replied to cyngal's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm not fond of the protein shakes either..... I just measure out enough for 64 grams per shake, I have the shake for either brakfast or a mid morning snack, my surgeon says miminum of 64 grams of protein a day. Any other protein is bonus I use Isopure dutch cholocate -
Its a great feeling put that energy to good use - take a walk or start some exercise. All that food and fat makes you slow, eating healthy gives you more energy - at least thats the way I feel
-
Protein shake and a 1/2 cup of cottage cheese.

For the wound care I just had steri-strips (no sutures or staples). When I left the hospital my surgeon said to not touch anything until he sees me in 3 weeks so I just left well enogh alone. The steri-strips hold your wound closed so they really stick and they covered the incision totally. I only took off the gauze and put Neosporen then a bandaid. Once I had my 3 wk. check up he took all the bandages off and I was OK. Stock up on the 16.9 oz bottles of Water... I knew I had to drink 4 a day to get my required water so each day I would mark 4 bottles with 1, 2, 3 & 4 so I would not foget how many I had - lol. Since you cannot lift anything heavy for a while I bought like 10 cases !!!! (I live alone). Protein: My surgeons office recommended Isopure, I tried other Proteins but I always go back to Isopure. Stay away from the Protein shots, they are discusting !!!! I was on liquid diet for 2 wks.. so when I was able to eat soft, I stocked up on Soups, yogurts, cottage cheese. GOOD LUCK on your surgery !!

Getting Nicotine Out Of Your System
BBdoodle replied to kimpossible67's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon wanted me to quit minimum 2 wks before surgery, I knew there was no way I could quit BEFORE surgery, I needed to smoke to keep myself sane. I continued to smoke like crazy before surgery. The night before I had enough ciggs to last me until 9pm, I had my last smoke around 9pm and that was it. When I woke in the a.m. to get ready for surgery I wanted on but did not feel like spending $9.00 of a pack that I was only going to smoke a few ciggs. out of. Plus I did not want to walk into surgery smelling like smoke either. After surgery I did not have any desire to smoke what so ever !!! I do miss it ever now and then but I have been smoke free for 6 months -
I hope all is well with you and keep us posted. !!!
