Baritric Advantage Website
BBdoodle replied to Jen in SoCal's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I am bad at remembering too. I have small containers, seven of them that I line up each week and put my weeks worth of vitimans in them, so each work day when I am getting my food packed I just grab a container of vitimans. During the weekends I just put one out on the kitchen counter and every time I pass I take a vitiman This works great for me !! -
Oh yeah.... I'm 6 months post op and that happened to me last week !!! The pain is not a "I'm too full pain" it is a pain like someone punched you in the stomach - it really hurts like hell !!!! Yep.... I learned my lesson.

Raw nuts are the best and in their "natural" state. Almonds are the most nutritional, I started with the almonds too but made sure I chewed them like crazy, I did not want to get a belly ache

Smoking After Surgery
BBdoodle replied to sexycanadian's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I quit smoke the evening before surgery. I was told to quit 2 wks before but I wanted to smoke up until the last moment before. To be honest with you I really don't miss it only when I have a drink or a glass of wine or if someone I know is having a smoke I would love to join them. However... I feel 100% better that I am not smoking - I can breath so much better, I don't stink like smoke, I am saving $9.00 a day which I can now put towards new clothes Please don't go back to smoking you have come this far why turn back. Plus smoking can cause lots of problems after RNY surgery... its really not good for you. Please reconsider !! -
Welcome This is a awesome support group and you can find out all kinds of information here, everyone is so willing to help. congrats on your surgery and glad you are doing well now.

Cake, Donuts, Chocolate You Name It I Want It.
BBdoodle replied to jennamommy's topic in Food and Nutrition
Of course you are craving all things you cannot have !!! I did too When I was home the first week after surgery I watched all the cooking shows, I don't know why but I did for some strange reason. As soon as they were starting to make me hungry I would have a ice pop and the cravings would go away. -
I would bring a cooler like itzme752 says above with all your food. Even if you stop at a fast food place there is always something you can get to eat. Just don't skip your portein or water - very important !!! The protein bars can be used as a meal supplement as well. Have a wonderful trip and be safe !!!

BBdoodle replied to TinyMamiOf3kids's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Mami.... From what I hear those last pounds are a killer to get off. As you probably have seen I am in a loooong slump. We were just about the same weight when we had surgery, I was 214 day of surgery and I am 173 now, I really thought that I was going to be some where like where you are 139 ish. I'm totally bummed. I had my 6 month post op appt. yesterday with my surgeon and he said I was donig fine and that we all hit slupms, I told him the numbers are not budging but my clothes are looser !! Hang in there !!! Hopefully our numbers will start to go down soon !!! -
Yeahhh... you are on the other side now Sounds like you are doing fantastic !!! get some walking in it helps !!!

Sick Of Protein Drinks!
BBdoodle replied to Stardusted's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hear ya !!! I'm 6 months post op and not very fond of them either but they are the best form of protein. Can you maybe change flavors or brands ?? Warning - don't even look at the protein shots they are absolutely discusting !!!! My doc wants me to have minimum 64 grams of protein daily, now that I am on regular food I do get more protein from food and will eliminate the shakes all together soon. Milk (low fat), Cottage cheese, yogurt, nuts, beans etc. are all high in protein. But you are only 2.5 weeks post op so probably still on liquid right? To get a extra bang I would make my shake with low fat milk to have some extra protein. Hang in there sweetie, the protein is a must to maintain health/nutrition and hair !!! -
Contact your doctor, does not sound right.

First Night Back Home
BBdoodle replied to tinabree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The dreams may be from your pain meds. sometimes I get them too but depends on what pain meds they are. Good luck with your recovery -
Crazy emotions are all normal before and after.... hang in there it all works it self out.

Losing my hair was my #1 concern, my surgeon guaranteed me that if I took my minimum 64 gr. of protein and took my biotin my hair would not fall out. I'm six months post op today and so far so good. Some people who stop drinking their protein "think" they are getting enough protein but they really are not unless you caculate all your protein you eat. If you are infact getting all your protein then I would increase. What amount of protein are you getting daily?

So Discouraged-Scale Hasnt Budged
BBdoodle replied to jknap01's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Join the club.... my scale has only moved a pound or two in the past month and a half = very discouraging but I increased my exercise and intenstity. My clothes are fitting lose now where they were tight before but the darn scale has not moved - I am in a major slum !!! Hopefully it will start to move again real soon. As DL said above stay focused and continue doing what you are doing, I keep telling myself this every day.. it will pass. -
I have Horizon BC/BS NJ and I did not have to do any pre surgery diet, at least my surgeon did not require that I diet. My BMI was 36 but my cholestrol was 214 and BP was 140/83 so my BP was on the rise too. My sailed thru my approval process - good luck in your journey !!

Numb/ Sore Thights Post Opp
BBdoodle replied to foxy747's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took about 3 months for my numbness to totally go away but totally normal for some people. I had the same when I had hernia surgery. I think it effects some people more than others. -
Ready To Ditch The Chewables
BBdoodle replied to jenneliza's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I could not tolerate whole pills not matter how small right after surgery, I had to grind up everything !!! I am 6 months post op today and I am slowly going back to swollowing whole pills now for about a month. My only advise is to take it slow, start with the smaller whole pills first then work your way up to the larger size pills. -
I eat yogurt, cottage cheese, low calorie protein bars at times, nuts, grilled chicken, beans etc. etc
-
I don't see why not... I lived on soup and still do at 6 months post op - I just love soup. Of course now I can eat the soups with chunks of veggies, potato etc. etc. But at first it was just the broth and creamy low fat soups.

What They Dont Tell You
BBdoodle replied to 2fat42long's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OK... I am the world's biggest baby when it comes to pain, I have zero tolerance. The first day or two is very uncomforatable, I really can't say pain..just uncomfortable. I was on a morphine pump as well and sure as heck used it. I walked, walked, walked... which made me feel better. What hurt was my very sore stomach muscles. I was back to work in one week, I had surgery on a Monday and the following Monday I was sitting at my desk. I worked half days in the office and 1/2 days at home for the first week. I did not have sutures or staples, just steri-strips to hold my incisions closed so that was one thing that was good, no discomfort from the incision sites. On a scale of 1 -10 pain level with 10 being the worst, I would give this surgery a 5 !!! I have had my share of surgeries and this was not one of the more painful ones and this is coming from a 0 tolerance pain person - LOL. You will do fine !!! and good luck on your new journey -
Numb/ Sore Thights Post Opp
BBdoodle replied to foxy747's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had numb thighs as well, my surgeon said that it was from the cautery machine that they ground you to during surgery, the electrical current goes thru your thighs or where ever they attach it which causes temporary numbness. The numbness and strange feeling goes away after a while.
