Anyone Else On Liquid Diet For Thanksgiving?
BBdoodle replied to hajones5891's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was the day after Easter so I stayed home on Easter and just kind of rested and prepared myself for surgery. It was no big deal, I just did not want to tempt myself into eating heavy foods. I was not on a liquid diet before surgery, I only had to eat light be day before and then take a laxative the night before. I would hide if I were you, it just makes it easier on you. I went back to work a week after surgery, on the second day back to work we had a baby shower for a good work friend of mine, everyone brought in amazing homemade food and I could not touch any of it. I was worried that people would as why I was not eating, I only told my very close friends about the surgery. There were so many people at the shower that no one even noticed that I did not touch the food !!!! Good luck -
I know I get tons more confidence when I am thinner. People treat you different when you are heavier then when you are thin. When I am thin I get doors opened, assisance with carrying things, just treated a whole lot different than when I am heavy. Its sad that the public treats overweight people so bad

Its just easier that way, less time running around and taking off from work. Get everything done as soon as you can just to make it easier on yourself. -

Can't Get All My Protein In
BBdoodle replied to Lebim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My suregon required me to get min. 64 grams of protein daily. You can get lots of protein in by eating cottage cheese (which I love), yogurt (plain & low or non fat). I can eat nuts (7 monnths post op) but I watch and only have a very tiny hand full as a snack. You can have a protein shake as a afternoon snack too. I make my protein shake with minimal liquid, either low fat milk or water and two scoops of protein powder which in my brand its 50 grams of protein so I get my major jolt of proetin from my shake which I have as a mid morning snack or as a brekfast. -
Now On Mushy Foods
BBdoodle replied to Sharma Castillo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Vicki... Well I am a boring eater... for breakfast I have a 1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese and a 1/4 cup of fat free plain yogurt. Lunch is either soup, or a lean Cusine, or cheese and grapes, afternoon snack is maybe some raw nuts (almonds montly) and dinner is the same as lunch. I have my protein shake as a mind morning snack. Sometimes I have my protein shake as breakfast on the weekends. -

sounds yummie..... I have cholocate mint growing in my back yard I will add that to the mix. thanks -
I do layers when running in 0 - 30 degree weather. I don't like to wear heavy clothes because once you get warmed up then you get too hot !!!. I wear sports bra (of course), then a light weight 100% cotton turtle neck to keep my neck warm, then I put on a good 100% cotton thermal shirt, with a very light weather resistant running jacket. Good gloves are a must and I also wear a headband to keep my ears warm. I tried the under armor brand but I felt it did not keep me warm...but then again that is me and my opinion. I only use the thermal pants when its 0-20 degrees because I get too hot otherwise. I do have a pair of good heavy sweatpants. You mentioned that your nose runs...lol... you remind me of my Mom... when she would speed walk with me she constantly had a tissue to her nose in the cold weather so make sure you have lots of tissues with you

Pain In Upper Left Back And Under Rib Cage
BBdoodle replied to shawny53's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Sounds like gallbladder. 10 wks after my RNY surgery I had severe pain right under my breast and under my rib cage. I called my surgeon and they had me get a ultrasound ASAP. Turns out that I had gall stones and had to have my gallbladder removed... that was not fun. 2 major surgeries in 10 wks not my idea of fun !!! My doctor also had my on a prescription pill that prevented gall stones but I had gall stones prior to RNY. -
What goes in must come out !!! If you are on liquids still then you will not have a large or daily bowel movement. It took me about 2 wks to get regular again. Also.. if your poop is very dark or tary please contact your doctor.

Now On Mushy Foods
BBdoodle replied to Sharma Castillo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will go thru this often when introducing new foods. Even when they are foods that are on your apporved food list. When I started on soft mushy foods... tuna was on the list so I tried tuna. Well needless to say tuna and I are not friends anymore - LOL. I knew the second I swalloed a small well chewed mouth full that it was not going to be good. Same with certain chicken... I don't know whether its the testure or what but I just cant do tuna or chicken well and I am 7 months post op !!! It is all trial and error. -
I love to run in 20 - 30 degree weather... I cannot run in hot..but that is just me. My nose does not run in cold weather, I guess I'm lucky. On the very bitter cold mornings I put Johnsons Gel Baby Oil on my face, it helps keep your skin soft and moist and you don't get wind burn either. Everyone is different and their body reacts differently... my suggestion is try different things and see how your body reacts. When I had a exceptionaly good run in the a.m. I would always say "hmmmm what did I eat the night before". Maybe keep a log... try carbs, Protein, etc and see what works best for you. I love to run too, there is no better feeling after a good run, I am so energized and feel fantastic too !!!

At 3 weeks post op I was on soup, yogurt, cottage cheese.... all soft mushy stuff. Salad was like 2 months post op. Don't go too crazy on salads... get your protein FIRST !!!! Pre-op I always loved salads now... post op I still like them but I get filled up pretty quick on protein and have no room for salad.

Gathering Supplies
BBdoodle replied to eeyoregirl1970's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not have to do a pre-op diet, I stocked up on waters, ice pops, protein, soups. -
I went thru surgery and recovery extremely easy, I was back to work in one week and have had no major problems what so ever. I did as my doctor told me, I followed all eating plans and instructions. At first i was not chewing my food well enough when I was first able to eat regular food so I would get sick... I learned real quick to chew, chew, chew chew and chew some more. My adivse is to follow you doctors instructions, keep yourself hydrated which is extremely important, drink your protein and take your vitimans and you will be fine. If something does not feel right you must call your doctor.

As Paul B said... educate yourself and your BF... once he sees and hears all the sccess stories he will be OK. Even show him all the people on this site of all the success !!! RNY is a tool to help you get healthy. Would he rather you stay heavy and unhealthy ? Go thru this together, its nice to have support of your loved ones .

I hope everything goes well for you today. The endo. will tell all on whats going on. It will all be over soon enough.... hang in there !!!!

Its a eye-opener for sure and pretty amazing of what you "should" be eating to what you thought was normal.

Try to stay away from the egg foo young it is loaded with fat... stick to the steamed dishes.
-
Chinese food is a no-no for me unless the veggies are steamed. All the other non-steamed dishes like egg-fo0 young are extremely high in fat . . . basically the egg-foo is eggs fried in oil loaded with very greasy gravy... which should be avoided at all costs no matter what !!!! Stick to the steamed dishes and order the sauce on the side with no oil.
