No More Gallbladder!
BBdoodle replied to TryingtobeSuperwoman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope you feel better soon !!! My gallbladder had to be removed 10 wks after my RNY. I never had symptons except for one day I had a horrible GB attack, I thought I was having a heart attack !!! I called my RNY surgeon they said it sounded like GB so I had a ultrasound and sure enough I had "lots" of stones that were their prior to RNY. I wish I would of known that because I would have had him remove my GB while he was in there. My advise is if you are PRE OP and your insurance with pay for ultrasound I would have the GB tested BEFORE surgery... its is soooooo much easier. I was starting to feel really good, started exercising etc. etc then BAM another surgery which set me back 6 wks. Now I am 7 months RNY post op and doing fantastic!!! Hope you feel better soon. -
The success key for me is that I found a exercise that I love so working out for a hour every day is enjoyment for me and not a chore !!! I love to jog/run, I have a treadmill, elliptical and weight machine in my basement. I LOVE to workout running either indoors or out. When I am running/jogging the weight melts off me. Another KEY is that I wear a heart rate monitor which tells me that I am in the fat burning zone by how fast my heart is beating which is another key to successfully getting the most from your workout AND keeps you in the "ZONE" to burn fat and cardio etc.

I took a class, then scheduled a consult with the surgeon, he at that time gave me a list of all the procedures he felt I needed to complete before surgery. Colonoscopy, endoscopy, sleep study, nutritionist, physc. test. After I met with the surgeon I met with the surgical coordinator who set the surgery date. All me test results were sent to my surgeon as I got them, 2 wks before surgery I had a required class with one of the surgeons from the group, signed all the hospital paperwork, answered any and all questions, went over what you should purchase, bring to the hospital etc, gave you your eating plan. Right before I went into the OR I met with my surgeon. I believe if you have any serious problems the doctor will contact you, but if there are no issues then you are good to go. That is the way my surgeons office operates.. others may be different.

LOL... alcohol has not affected me either way, there is no difference pre or post op but I have heard that people either get more buzzed or less buzzed. I stayed the same (7 months post op)

We all have had those "off" days. Go for a walk... get those endorfins going that will make you feel better.

You go girl !!! Once my workout starts to get easy I step it up, you need to keep on challanging your body and that is where the lbs. will melt off !!! Years ago when I first started running it took me a whole year to run one mile. At first I could only do 10 steps, then 20 , then 30 then 1/4 mile etc. etc. Its tough but if you keep your heart rate up in the range for fat burning for your age you will do just fine. I use a heart rate monitor every time I work out... it keeps me honest - LOL Nice work and keep it up sweetie

Feeling Sad And Scared
BBdoodle replied to USAFmom2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most of us go thru this at some point in time so don't be so hard on yourself but learn from your bad expierence. I have dumped a few times, I am 7 months post op and I dumped not because of eating high fat or surgar foods but I dumped because I was not chewing my food well at first. I learned real quick that I had to chew, chew, chew, chew. I would be sick for a day or so, my surgeon would tell me to go back to the liquid stage for a few days then slowly go back to the stage I was in. You can't go back now so make the best of what you have, think positive and you will find you spot in this RNY world, you are still very new at this, each of us had to find our way and what works best for each individual, it is also thru trial and error where we all learned. Don't put yourself thru the ringer its not necessary !!! Just live and learn, because we all go thru it. Stay strong ! -
Creamy low fat soups, yogurt, cottage cheese, low fat mashed potatoes etc. were my puree statge friends

I don't do tuna or chicken real well. I think everyone expierences dumping in their own way. If I got a tummy ache after eating something I would go back to liquids for a day or two to let my pouch rest then go back to what ever stage I was in. I am 7 months post op now and can basically eat anything... but tuna and chicken are a no-no for me,,,,, I'm just afraid. You live and learn on what you will like/dislike. Just chew, chew,chew,chew... and try new things at home so if you have to run to the restroom you can -

Questions I Have About Gastric Bypass
BBdoodle replied to channing28105's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Did you have surgery already or are you pre-op? You surgeon's office should be educating you and answering ALL your questions. My surgeon would not perform surgery unless you attended ALL of his nutrition, medical and surgery classes. He wanted to know that you knew 110% of everything that would be happening to you, what you should eat and what you sould do if at certain stages etc. -
Gastric Bypass Way More Dangerous...
BBdoodle replied to connie3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had decided if I was going to do any surgery what so ever it would be the procedure that I would lose the most weight which is the bypass. There are risks in ANY surgery, the majority of people have no major issues what so every with the bypass and many, many people go from band to bypass. -

Depressed To Realize It's Come To This.
BBdoodle replied to jodimc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went thru a emotinal period right after surgery. As I have said in many posts...your affair with food will be over after surgery. What YOU choose to do with those emotions is totally up to YOU !!! When I was feeling sad or just missing the constant eating I would exercise or do something that I totally enjoyed. You will soon realize that much of your time was focused on food. I am 7 months post op and have no regrets what so ever. I now have lots of time to enjoy HEALTHY things in my life and not be so focused on food. There is a whole world out there that is just waiting for you to discover and it does not involve food. -
Good luck and it sounds like you are totally ready for this. It all depends on your insurance on what path you go down. Good luck... its nice that you got a jump on things !!!

I was a diet pepsi lime addict before surgery.... that is all I would drink. It was a big change for me to give up diet sodas. But I had to, I'm 7 months post op and I have a sip every now and then and now it tastes really chemically to me. I don't think a sip would hurt you just cant go back to the way you use to drink soda. And if you drank lots of regular soda that now has way too much surgar and you should not be drinking something that has that much sugar.

Pre-Op Labs? Cbc W/o Diff. Will They Cancel?
BBdoodle replied to peachee213's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your surgeon will have to make that call. If there is something going on they may not do surgery. That is the whole reason they have you do blood work right before surgery. Hopefully you will have surgery tomorrow - good luck !! -
Yeahhhhhh.... It is such a relief when you get approved !!! = CONGRATS!

Sounds like either gas or gall bladder. My gallbladder pain was right under my breast in front center. The gas plain was in my shoulders. I would call your doctor to be on the safe side.
-
I love pickles and olives too..... I was about 2 months post op and started eating pickles I did chew them like crazy, same with the olives = chew, chew, chew, chew, chew and you should be OK. Good thing about them, low in calories and fat AND they filled me up too.

I have a shaker with a wire ball in it. At first its a bit foamy but if you let it sit the foam goes down but then you need to re-shake to mix again..you can do it gently without any foam. Its OK to drink the foam its not like drinking soad or anything. I do let my shake settle a bit.

What Was Your Biggest Misconception About Surgery?
BBdoodle replied to hajones5891's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I thought I was going to be sick all the time, puking, pooping, etc. etc. I went thru surgery with no problems what so ever. I have puked and pooped but only once in a while... I have pooping issues due to my gall bladder removal 10 wks after RNY but that issues is being delt with = sorry TMI. I never knew it would be this easy to have RNY. -
I know I do not get enough protein in my food, and since surgery I am not a big meat eater anymore. I just drink my protein shake @ 50 grams of protein per shake. I usually have a yogurt and cottage cheese daily so I get about 80 grams daily.
