    Taking A Compliment..

I do at times but then after a while you get use to the compliments and learn to say "thanks" and really mean it. I only told my immediate close co-workers about my surgery and asked that they do not tell anyone, in my job they would be breaching confidentiality if they told someone. I also only told a few close family members and friends. If someone says "wow you lost weight, you look great" how are you doing it I say "THANKS and I am dieting and exercising. Which is the truth, I am dieting and exercising like hell to boot !!! My medical history is no one's business unless I make it their business. Sounds like you are doing fantastic... keep up the good work and enjoy those complements

Foods I Need To Know About

I'm almost 8 months post op and had popcorn about 2 wks ago, I was really afraid at first and just had a few pieces and waited about 20 minutes, I had no pain or anything like that so i had a cup full. I'm not a big popcorn fan but I do like it at the movies. Please be careful and not put any of that movie theater butter on it because it is loaded with fat !! you will get sick for sure. As far as soda goes....I am a ex-diet pepsi addict.... I have a sip every once in a while, my surgeon says soda is a big NO-NO.

    What's My Problem!?

Live and learn !!! If I have something like a cookie or a handful of chips I just exercise longer to burn it off..... no guilt here !!! LOL

    Soy Protein

My surgeon wanted me to be on Whey Isolate protein so I just stick with what he wants me on.
  8. I would stock up on the "heavy" items unless you have someone to carry them for you after surgery. Be careful on stocking up on too much stuff because my taste changed big time after surgery. I use to love crystal light now I can't stand it, the same with Wylers peach green tea, it taste like chemicals. I would stock up on bottled waters (16.9 oz) size. You will need to drink 4 a day to get your water in not including the protein. Try a couple of different proteins, see what one you like the most then buy a big container of it. I like Isopure, I bought the 7.5 lb. tub of it. I also stocked up on soups, I still like the same ones as I did before surgery so that is a good thing. Also stock up on vitimans, I found the chewable kind were easier to get down for the first few months. I could not handle the larger pills they hurt way too much plus caused me to throw up too sorry TMI.

    First Time Posting

Oh sweetie, don't be ashamed of yourself there is no need to be !!! THINK POSITIVE because there is power in positive thinking !!. Don't be afraid of failure because we all have failed at something. Just do the very best you can and give it 100% and you will be a success. You took the first step in WL, once you have the surgery it is easy after that, you follow what your doctor has instructed you to eat, exercise and the weight will come off. RNY does not allow you to over eat, this surgery is a tool to help you meet your WL goals it is not a cure, you have to work with it. You have support here with this group, we all have been down the WLS road and are here for support. Welcome

    Balancing Act

I'm kind of like you... my weight had gone up and down, I do love to exercise and have always done so. I felt WLS was the way to go so I would stop the yo-yo dieting and lose the weight once and for all. I am almost 8 months post op and this is the best thing I ever done. You should have no problem because you like to exercise and once you are cleared to exercise it feels so good and the weigth melts off once you start.

    Dumping

Everyone dumps differently. I have dumped (I think) twice... once about a hour after I ate and once right away.

    What If Wine?

I had wine about 3 months post op and had no problems what so ever ! I did not get buzzed I had the glass of wine about a hour after I ate, I sipped it slowly and totally enjoyed it. I'm almost 8 months post op now and can drink socially like I did before surgery with no problems. I do not get buzzed faster or slower... the surgery has no effect on my alcohol consumption.
  16. I had surgery on a Monday (April 9) and went back to work the following Monday, so I was off one week. I have a desk job, I went to work in the a.m. and then worked from home in the afternoon. I was very lucky that I was able to do that with my job. I did not want to be on disability because they do not pay your full salary. Everyone is different, I had no complications and felt pretty good.

    Felt Weird Being Out

I could not wear jeans for a long while just because of the way all my jeans waist band landed right on my incisions. Stretchy pants rule once your incisions are healing you can then were jeans. Just try them on now.. and ware them, sit down in them etc. just to make sure.... kind of test drive them

    Felt Weird Being Out

Awwww.... Once you venture out it feels good so you do it a bit more each time you go out. In a very short time you will be back to normal.

    Shrimp And Crab Meat?

Each surgeon has a different schedule, I think I was on soft foods like 5 wks out. Just chew, chew, chew, chew and chew some more. I would get really sick if I did not chew my food well enough. Just try a tiny bit... take baby steps with food.
  21. During the psyc. eval. they want to make sure that you understand the WHOLE surgery and what your expitations are. Also to make sure you are doing this on your own free will and that no one is forcing you like you husband or BF. And that you understand that the surgery is a tool etc. etc. I asked my evaluator who were the people that she failed... she said that she failed people that came in that said they were doing it because of a spouce or BF that wants them skinny, she also failed a 19 year old boy who his Mom called him fat and lazy = sad.

    Awesome
  23. I will be 8 months post op in a few weeks and I have no regrets what so ever. I would do it again in a NY second !!!!! I was lucky where I was back to work in a week, I had no problems or issues AND I followed my surgeon's instructions exactly !! Which I think is key for success. Surgery is a tool to help you lose weight, only you can make it a success by working with the surgery buy eating healthy, portion control and exercise.
  24. I agree with Worm2872.... why do you have to tell them???? Your medical history is no ones business. YOU choose to tell who you want !!! If they ask about your eating, just say you are watching what you eat and have not recovered 100% from surgery. I say don't tell them... no need to !!! I have only told very close family and friends and a few close work friends. If someone says you look good or wow you lost weight I stay "thank you". If they say how are you doing it I say diet and exercise !!! No lie because I am on a diet and I exercise a hour + daily.
