Do You Have Days Post-op When You Do Not Fee Like Eating?
BBdoodle replied to bakawaka's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have many days like this... but I still eat 3 meals a day and I get my liquids and protein in for sure. I am almost 9 months post op and you will for sure have good days and bad days.... as you move forward you will have more better days than bad. -
I have been using a HRM for years and absolutely love it because it keeps me where I should be to burn fat etc.etc. I bought a middle of the road monitor, it is about 7 yrs old, its a Oregon brand, not alot of bells or whistles but it does what I need it to do..... monitor my heart rate. Lately I have been looking at whats new on the market and what they have to offer but then I said what do I need...... answer... monitor my heart rate..... soooooo I have not bought a new one because my old one is still going strong and doing what I bought it to do. I totally rely on it.. I always "thought" that I was in the zone... but once I put on the monitor it told a completely different story - LOL. I had to work up to getting in the zone and maintain it you just cant do it the first time using it. I cant stress enough that how important this little gadget is - good luck

gallbladder surgery
BBdoodle replied to Cheryl Barfoot's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had RNY first then about 6 wks after RNY I had a really bad gall bladder attack. I did not know what it was and thought I was having a heart attack. I called my surgeon and they said I may have gall stones, I went for a ultrasound and sure enough I had many many stones. So 10 wks after RNY I was under the knife again for stones. It took me longer to bounce back from GB surgery than the RNY - go figure. If I knew about GB before the RNY I would have insisted on a ultrasound on the GB BEFORE RNY for sure. I am almost 9 months post op now and feeling GREAT !!! -
Fatigue 2.5 Weeks Post Op
BBdoodle replied to bakawaka's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You still need time to heal, your body takes a long time to get into that 100% stage. Please time the time to rest, heal and then ease back into your routine. Start exercise a little at a time, actually exercise give me more energy... your time will come but you need the time to heal first. -
We all have periods of not losing weight. My stall lasted 2 months !!! I increased intensity and time of my workouts and the got me out of my slump. I am almost 9 months post op.

No regrets what so ever, I would do it again in a second. I did my reasearch, got educated as much as possible and felt 110% confident to make the decision.

Anyone go from sleeve to roux en y ?
BBdoodle replied to Cyn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just my opinion.... but I think you will have a better chance of success with RNY. Plus you lose a higher percentage of weight with the RNY. -
I had a glass of wine about 2 1/2 months out, the alcohol had no more effect on me post op than pre op. You just have to be very careful... alcohol is empty calories. If I have a glass of wine.. I exercise about 1/2 longer to burn it off the next day.

Just want to bang my head against the wall...

I agree 10000000% with you, I alwasy say you have to work WITH the surgery, it is only a tool not a cure. It won't work without your imput, dedication, EXERCISE, and commitment to the WHOLE plan. If you don't follow you will be right back were you started in no time !!!! I made a promise to myself and I am following the plan my doctor has for me and I am doing fantastic, but I watch what I eat, I workout a hour + DAILY, and its working for me. Yes have I had a 2 month stall -- i sure as heck did but then I started losing again. It all depends on YOU !!!! -
What should/shouldn't I bring to surgery..and what should i not do right after you get home from surgery..i cant find it :(
BBdoodle replied to DianaDominate's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only thing I brought with me was my cell phone and charger, I wore big sweat pants and top in and wore them out. Toothbrush, toothpaste, etc. etc. all is provided for you. You may want to stay in the hospital gown, its easier for your doctor to check you. Pants will rub on your incision. -
Cheers !!! and congrats

I quit smoking the evening before surgery. I was suppose to quit 2 wks before surgery but could not. I am OK (9 monts post op) but I do miss it at times. I have quit for years and went back for a couple of years then quit again for a number of years...... this time its for good, I can't afford $9.00 / pack anymore !!!! Plus I feel 100% better and can run once again.

Good luck and say focused !!!

Hydration reminder app?
BBdoodle replied to lilmickey78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I get up in the morning I take out 4 bottles of water (16.9 oz) and add Lipton diet tea, I know by the end of the day that I have to drink all 4 to get my minimum 64 oz of water in. I sip, sip, sip all day long. -
I am a morning person so I get up a hour earlier and workout. You may want to start your day with exercise so there is less of a chance for you not to work out. I love to run and if I don't workout daily I don't feel complete, it feels like there is something missing. The key is finding a exercise you love.... anything that gets the heart rate pumping. I also have two high energy dogs so keeping them well exercised is also exercise for me and we all benefit from it. I have a eleptical, treadmill and weight machine in my basement so there are not excuses. You just need to find something you like...

I like using the resistance bands instead of the weights. I would start out maybe using 2-3 lbs weights then work up. Check out on line and there are tons of DVD's out there that you can work out too. Good luck.

Good luck and have a quick recovery

Still jumping thru hoops... and BOY, are my legs tired! :-)
BBdoodle replied to Catgyrl68's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hang in there sweetie !!! Everything seems endless but at some point you will finish all your requirements and be approved. I had to jump thru some hoops as well but did everything in 2 months. Just be careful who you tell about your surgery... some people are 110% supportavie and other people are not. I only told a very few select few, its just not worth it hearing from negative people. -
Feeling some kind of way
BBdoodle replied to mommytonya's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Please give the surgery time to work. Many of us want instant results, there is no way that can happen. With me I lost 12 lbs the first 2 weeks. The surgery is a tool to " help " you lose weight. Please give your body time to #1 heal, #2 adjust to the surgery and #3 work WITH the surgery. -
sitting here waiting to go back into preop and man am I scared!

Keep your exercise interesting and switch it up... which will also challenge your body. As I said above, I love to run but everyother day I use my elipitcal. You may want to try the Wii they have some awesome workouts that really get your heart pumping and they are fun too !!!

How far post op are you??? I had wine about 2 months post op, the alcohol has not affected me either way. My surgeon said you "could" get durnk easily but for me nothing has changed. Just be careful and I would try alcohol at home first to see how you will react. You don't want to try something new for the first time out of you house. Just remember that alochol has lots of empty calories.

I use Isopure low carb protein powder. You can mix with water or milk. If you mix with milk you will have to keep cool but since I mix mine with water I just carry it in my bag. I like to have a shake for breakfast after my workout. 2 scoops of Isopure has 50 grams of protein. No cooking involved.

As you lose the weight you have more energy and you are not carrying around all that weight. I do not require as much sleep as I once did - I'm OK with it .... I get so much more done now LOL
