There is a first for everything
BBdoodle replied to simplysammi's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My sister is my BFF and we are extremely close. When she decided to have WLS I was a bit worried because I knew she was doing it for herself but she was also doing it because her husband like skinny people and was not treating her very well when she was heavy. I just wanted to make sure that SHE was doing it for HER and no one else. Her husband did not even take her or pick her up from the hospital, I did. I was a 110% support for my sister. Every time I saw her I ecouraged her, told her she looked great etc. etc. But a year later when I started putting on the lbs I decided to get it and she was OK with it but never really encouraged me, she only gave me information, on what dr. she used, what she had to do etc. After surgery she had not once gave me encouragement or said anything about the weight loss or said I looked good...NOTHING !!! Until about a 2 wks ago and I only think because the wine was talking (LOL) after 2 glasses of wine she finally said "you are lookin' good", I almost fell off my chair and said "wow - thanks". There is no way she could be jealous because now she is under weight and needs to gain and I have about 30 more lbs to go to my goal so its not like I am past here or anything. We are still BFF's always will be not matter what...but I think its just a "sister" thing. Let your sis adjust to the new you, I would not chase her.... if you see her during the holidays say hello, if you get no response do engage her... she will come around in her own time. good luck sister !!! -
I know i have made the right choice for me
BBdoodle replied to OleHippieGal's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think you should focus on yourslef first.... If someone does not want to get healthy you can force them too, they have to WANT it etc. That is what the phys. evaluation is about before you have surgery...they want to make sure that it is YOU who wants the suregery and that you are not doing it for your spouce etc. He is probably scared of the outcome, if he has been heavy all his life and his mom is the enabler you need to get to the root of his problem, by him having surgery it would only be a band aid and it will not be successful. He needs to figure out WHY he over eats...is it for comfort, boardum, security, etc. etc. Once you find out why you over eat then at that point you can fix your problem but that has to come from within not from anyone else. You can talk to him, give him enouragement etc. but he has to be the one who wants it not you. So go on your WLS journey, don't expect to have support from him, stay away from him when he eats and develop your own support system. Hopefully he will come around but you can't force someone if they don't want to lose AND as I said earlier, I had to know why I over ate at times and once you find that answer you can move on and be a success with your WLS. I wish you luck in your decision it sounds like you are on the right track -
You are truly blessed to have such a wonderful husband !!!! sounds like you are doing well

You are doing fantastic !! Please dont get discouraged over not losing weight. I had a 2 month stall, I am almonst 9 months post op and in Aug.& Sept. I did not lose. To jump start my weight loss again I started exercising more... please don't eat less, that is the worst thing you can do. You put your body in starvation mode, your metabolishm slows, you need to either eat different foods, exercise more or do different things etc. We all have the stalls you just have to stay focused while you are in them and not freak that you are not losing. It takes time to get where you want to be in your weight it does not come overnight. You have lost 60 lbs and that is amazing keep it up but don't eat less just try different things and you will do fine

Fatigue Decreasing; Drain is Gone
BBdoodle replied to bakawaka's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh ok... I was just curious... that must have been a pain having the drain in sooooo long -
Oh yeah.... been there done that.... I did revisit some foods and after a while you can tolerate certain things better. I am almost 9 months post op and certain things that made me sick in the beginning does not now. I am still very careful and only take a spoon full etc. I don't like to get sick.

Fatigue Decreasing; Drain is Gone

As you heal each day you will get better... it take a long time to feel 100% Was there a reason why your tube had to stay in so long? Mine was taken out on the 2nd day. It hurt like heck but only for a second. With regard to the consiptation....just remember you are not eating tons of food so it will take a while for you to poop because there is nothing to poop out = LOL, It took me about 7 days for my first poop. Your body will will regulate it self in time. -
Good Luck !

We all have those feelings. You will lose lots of weight at first and then is will slow up. You will have times where you will not lose weight for a few weeks or month. Don't let it discourage you we all have stalls, mine lasted for 2 months. Only YOU can make this a success with watching what you eat, portion control and exercise. If you watch the fats and sugars you will not have a problem !!! Good luck

Oh Linda it sounds like you are doing really well - that is awesome !!! I was a little headachy too the first few days, I think because of not eating but it goes away. Keep up with your fluids and protein....sip, sip, sip, sip all day long !!! Keep up the good work.

My surgeon only required 64 grams of protein daily. I felt better with 80-90 grams, I am 9 months post op now and do between 60-80 grams daily. I had a stall spell in the summer with 2 months of no weight loss I was totally bummed but stuck with it and increased my exercise time and intensity and moved the scale again. We all go thru stalls unfortunately...you just have to stay focused and it will pass.

What stage are you in ....??? liquids only??? Try different brands of broth or add veggies if you are on regular food. At times I found the broths to be a bit salty.
-
Welcome.... I love the lipton tea mango/pineapple packets to flavor my water, they are like 5 calories and taste great. They taste more natural and less chemically than crystal lite.
-
I had a sore throat for the past few days..... I have been having about a teaspoon of honey per cup of tea with no problems. I am almost 9 months post op. Try a little at first as see what happens, try new things in baby steps AND if you are going to be home just incase you have to use the bathroom - LOL. I really don't think you will have a problem with honey.... everything in moderation.
-
I knew 110% that I wanted surgery and had no doubts what so ever. It was the best thing I ever did and have no regrets at all. What are you having doubts about?
-
Wow.... I would change doctors just because he sounds very unprofessional !!! I would call your ins. co. and see EXACTLY what they require for approval. I did not need my PCP I just had my RNY surgeon take care of everything. My PCP did write a letter stating why he thought I would be a great canidate which did help and was a requirement of my surgeon. Good luck

150lbs lost in 6 months!
BBdoodle replied to bigwaugh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOW... keep up to great work, you look great -
awesome feeling huh? You will start to notice little things that make a big difference.. keep up the good work and there are tons of things you will begin to notice as you go thru the weight loss = enjoy them
-
I have not expierenced that at all maybe because I did not tell everyone and only told a few close friends and family. When people say "wow you look great, I say THANKS, when they ask how are you doing it I say "diet and exercise". People are very ignorant when they say surgery is the easy way out..... by far its the hard way out... going under the knife... is no easy task. Surgery is only a tool to help you lose weight just like diet pills, diet programs, exercise etc. etc. its only a tool. YOU are the only one that can make it a sucess. Don't get mad or hurt when ignorant people ask you stupid questions.... they just don't know any better... educate them or just answser with diet and exercise. Its not worth getting into .
